Pickled pork classed as soft food
Mizz_Megan replied to kate85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what pickled pork is but I was eating meatloaf on my soft foods phase and it was one food out of the sample food page my dr gave me. If its soft enough I think it will be ok. If you have doubts ask your dr. -

Can't seem to hit 1000 calories with Dr.'s instructions.
Mizz_Megan replied to lilmispcl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's ok that your not able to eat that much right now. That will change eventually, your appetite will most likely come back. My dr told me to just focus on getting protein and water first. I didn't really do much exercising in the first few weeks bc I was still sore and on restrictions. If you're really concerned just call the drs office and ask I'm sure you're not the first. Good luck -
when can I get back to work
Mizz_Megan replied to peteypete's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am self employed also and did not want to be off work as long as I was. I honestly thought I could see a patient the day after surgery lol!!! Anyways it was about 6-7 days before I could work even a little and my job isn't at a desk but not very physically demanding. Take the time you need and recoup. That general anesthesia is not a game! -
Banded with toddler?
Mizz_Megan replied to Wanna-Be-Healthy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! Well long story short after 2 yrs of severe nausea and diarrhea and not really any pain in my side that is typical of GB problems. I had every test imaginable done and everything was negative. I had a hida scan done and my GB was functioning at 80% which is considered normal range. However, the medicine they gave me for the test reproduced my symptoms. Right before being wheeled into the OR for LB my surgeon told me she was going to go ahead and take the GB out too since WLS often can lead to GB problems later. She said during the surgery my GB had been chronically inflamed and I had a lot of scar tissue around it which means it was definitely not working correctly. So, it was a great thing she took it out bc I was beginning to think I would never feel "good" again. -
From surgery to where you are now, were u more strict then or after you got to your "sweet spot"? I'm feeling guilty bc I can eat just about anything right now and I usually don't but I haven't been as strict as I thought I would be. Im just curious about your situation and what typical meals look like for you guys.

How strict are you day to day?
Mizz_Megan replied to Mizz_Megan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the replies! I am just feeling so guilty. But I'm still learning and as long as I continue to make progress I will try not to be so hard on myself. -

Wow thanks for that info! That would be very discouraging. So glad you talked to your dr about it and didn't give up!

I'm reallllyyyy having trouble with this too. I'm in a car all day driving to and from patients houses. I finally bought a cooler and keep water with me which has helped some. The only thing I can say is keep it in your face so you remember to drink it.

Start good eating habits prior to surgery! Such as-no straws, tiny bites, no drinking with meals, and put your fork down between bites. Get rid of all carbonated / sugary drinks, carbs and sugar to help prepare u for surgery. I didn't really stick to that preop and let me tell u it is not something that comes easily. I'm still working on it 4 weeks post op and its very necessary. For surgery and the healing period itself I would make sure u have gas-x chewable, and possibly a heating pad I've heard it helped with gas but I never tried it. Just follow all your surgeons instructions and if you have a doubt about something call your dr. It's your health and your life. Oh and as far as the time it takes to get approval, once submitted my insurance company needed additional information. From start to finish that took about 16 days for me. I'm still a newbie but I hope this helps. Good luck with everything!

I just had my 1st fill today and I'm a lil worried. As she was doing the fill I asked her how much fluid she was going to put In and her response was we're going to try 3ccs. Well after a hiccup with finding the port she said I think u have some fluid in your band already so were going to put in 2. She later said I had 1.8 in plus the 2 now. So she had me drink water and I said I it went down ok... Well as soon as I walked out I felt like a pill was stuck in my throat (I've only had water at this point) and now almost 2 hrs later I still have this annoying feeling. Is that normal? Does it go away shortly? I really don't want to go back for an unfill due to the tornado disaster in Moore, ok and traffic...
-
I'm not sure how to answer that question.... I am sipping on Water now but I still have this weird feeling like a pill is stuck. It's not coming up if that's what u mean?
-
I get hiccups everyday now. I haven't quite figured out what's causing it (I'm 3.5 weeks postop) but pretty sure it's either eating too fast, too much, or drinking too soon after eating. Or maybe a combo of things. But they don't usually last long.

Gallbladder and lapband surgeries
Mizz_Megan replied to buckeyegirl4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my GB removed at the same time as my lb almost a month ago and I still have pain from the GB,usually only when laying on that side or straining more than I should. If it weren't for that I think I'd feel pretty much normal by now. I would just talk to your surgeon about it. Even with the slight pain, i feel way better now than I did prior to surgery. -
The PA at my 2 week follow up had me start solids on my 3rd week. I'm supposed to eat a protein shake for breakfast, 2 oz of lean meat and 1/4-1/2 cup of veggies for lunch and dinner with 1 snack. The problem? 2oz of meat and the veggies last me about an hr and I'm hungry again. I can eat 4-5 oz of meat plus veggies easy and I'm still hungry at about 2.5 hrs. I will most likely get a fill this coming Thursday thank goodness. I'm bringing my journal with me and I'm going to be completely honest in that I have not been eating 2oz of anything anymore bc I'm so hungry and also I haven't made the best food choices all the time. I feel like I'm failing already and I'm just beginning... Has/does anybody have this issue and what did u do about it?
-
Thanks for the info everyone. I have been eating all solids now for a few days and haven't had any issues with foods except for when I eat too fast. This is a serious change and lb is a complete change of life. I knew it would be but I had NO idea how difficult it would be in changing my "automatic" behaviors. Work in progress I suppose

Mine itched like crazy! The healing process was to blame but also those steri strips definitely caused my skin to get irritated. I had to put lotion around them as much as I could and that helped. It's probably not recommended to do so tho...
-
According to my dr a full liquid diet includes any soup or pudding that has been strained, yogurt with nothing added like granola or fruit, protein shakes etc. Clear liquids are things like broth and jello anything u can see through.

My 2 week follow up was on may 9th. They weighed me, asked if I was having any concerns or problems relating to pain or nausea etc from surgery. I had a few issues I discussed with her and then she looked at my incisions and took off my remaining steri strips. Then we talked about what I was eating which I believe I just started soft foods and that she wanted me to progress to solids in a few days and to journal what I was eating so that by my 4 week follow up appt she would know if I needed a fill or not. My 4 week appt is coming up Thursday so hopefully I get a fill bc I can eat more than I'm supposed to now. Hope this helps and good luck
