What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
skikyd replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My wife was the "fit one". The overall plan was: she would treat her body like a temple and live forever. I would treat mine like a pup tent. die young, and leave her a big insurance policy pay off. She got a brain tumor. Now I have to care for her. Also I was being photographed for a magazine article. I had gotten so big I had nothing to wear. I saw a commercial on TV by Peyton Manning that went something like this: " I'm an elite professional athlete. You're not. BUY A BIGGER SHIRT" It Pissed me off. That is when I decided to do something about my weight. -
Picked up Some Biotin today. Directions say 5 1000mg tabs per day. Does that sound right?

I use 3 different Protein products Pre mixed Pure. Protein- liquid comes in cans with re sealable caps. 110 calories, 23 g protein. Not the "BEST" quality but pretty good per my Nut. $2.00/ can GNC. whey powder. Vanilla, About $1.00/ scoop. 100 cals for. 12 g protein. I mix it with coffee, flavored waters, diet Snapple. I use a shaker cut with a wire to break up clumps. The last one is NEW DIRECTION. Powders recommended by my doctor. They come as shakes, puddings, Soups. They are 200 calories each and are 28 g protein each. 3 of then give 100% of Vitamins. $3.00 each. Non prescription at my hospital pharmacy. They come in boxes of 7 packets. There is a variety pack.some shakes, some pudding, some soups. Taste good. I was on them 7 weeks. Bored with flavors after 7 weeks..

Getting nervous due to all the comments I am hearing
skikyd replied to Buckfever53's topic in The Guys’ Room
Brothamike. This is a serious surgery. It is much safer than it used to me. The majority of people on here have great outcomes. If there is one thing I have learned, it is, there are no guarantees. No 2 people are the same. There are statistics. the vast majority of info says it is safe. For many of us it is a " life changing" event. It's not all skittles and beer. There is still a lot of work required on your part. BUT IT IS WORTH IT. I am almost 4 months out. Down 66 pounds. Currently at a stall. But I know I'll push through it. I am at 219#. A little bummed. But being at 219 is a freaking miracle! If I can lose 66 pounds, I can lose 33 more. I had complications. All behind me now. It was worth it. You will have doubts the day of surgery. You will get over it and be GREAT. -
I am almost 4 months out. Just noticed some hair loss. Is Biotin OTC or prescription?

Clear liquids are tea, Water, chicken broth etc. They might be difficult. Do not worry. If you can only get 1/4 teaspoon in at a time ... just have a 1/4 teaspoon at a time. IT WILL GET BETTER every day. Dont worry if you can't sleep Tuesday night. You WILL sleep all day Wednesday Good Luck/ Don't be shy about asking for pain meds. They will want to know when you fart. Enjoy it. Probably the only time in your life people WANT you to fart!

Thin: When I had my surgery I could hardly drink anything without pain. I recall my pain was at the top. I could only drink about 1/4 teaspoon at a time. Dr said. " then just drink 1/4 teaspoon at a time" It WILL GET BETTER. Just do what you can.

Getting nervous due to all the comments I am hearing

I agree with MegaBob. I am 3.75 months out. Down 67 pounds. 33 to go. I have no schedule. If I can do 67... I can do 33 more. Just do the right thing every day. And you will get there. My NP said ; " no one is perfect...... But if you can look in. The mirror and say I am doing the right thing. MOST DAYS, MOST WEEKS, MOST MONTHS. You WILL GET THERE." It is a life long marathon. Not a sprint to the end of next month. -
Thin: how you doing?

I had pain the day/ night of surgery. Morphine did a great job. Tylenol next couple of days. Then no more pain meds. Really not bad. Worst thing. : a friend gave me a very funny book. Had to put it down for a flew days. It hurts when I laugh. I have a friend getting a hernia op on Friday. I told her don't screw with me or I'll screw with you...... I'll make you laugh post - op
