3 days post op and not feeling full?
MamaBear2 replied to laceeb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi laceeb ... I just had my surgery April 15th, so I'm a newbie. I can tell you that although I did feel full from the beginning, most will say that our stomachs are sort of numb from the surgery and therefore it's pretty hard to have a true feeling of fullness yet for some. I would just follow whatever guidelines your DR/nutritionist gave you, and avoid overdoing it in an attempt to feel full. Try your best to get in your 64 oz of liquids and at least 60 grams of protein. These first few weeks are challenging. But I'm sure we will do well and ultimately be happy with our decision. -
So Full ... Is this Normal?

Thanks guys. I have a GNC by me. I'll definitely check it out tomorrow. -
My surgery was April 15th. I was on liquids for three weeks per my doctor. Just started purée stage two days ago on Monday. I have been eating very small amounts because with less than an ounce I feel satisfied and I'm afraid to overstuff myself. Well tonight for dinner I puréed some turkey chili with no beans and served myself 1/4 cup. I was so looking forward to eating it. After eating about half I felt full but had two more bites too many and boy did I feel uncomfortable. Felt pressure in my chest. After about 20 minutes, it subsided. Is this normal? I know my nutritionist said early on it may not be easy to get in even an ounce, but how am I supposed to meet my protein requirements? I am drinking one Premier Shake a day so that helps getting 30g protein in. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

So Full ... Is this Normal?

Thanks everyone for replying. I'm happy to hear that this is normal. Can anyone recommend an unflavored protein that really has no flavor to it? I've bought a couple and they definitely had a taste to them that was hard to mask in food. Thanks again!! -
Really strange ... I just saw this photo posted by someone in the thread titled "My wagon got a flat tire ..."

Surgery tomorrow 3:45 pm May 2
MamaBear2 replied to JProx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck on your surgery tomorrow!! Wishing you a speedy recovery. -
Hi everyone. So my surgery was Monday, April 15th. It was later in the day around 5:30pm. Post surgery I don't remember much. Some mild pain and just a feeling of relief. Relief that it was over and I survived. I was discharged the following night, still with some pain and with pain medication. Hardest part about being home was finding a position to sleep in. I slept sitting up on the couch. Unfortunately, what we thought was gas pains became increasingly less tolerable as days progressed. By Friday morning I called my surgeons office. My symptoms were 100.6 fever, terrible generalized pain on my left abdominal area and left back pain. They told me to go to ER. To make a long story as short as I can, after a cat scan, that thankfully ruled out a leak or obstruction, my pain was coming from a left pleural effusion. In other words excess fluid around my left lung. Which is not uncommon after abdominal surgery. So I was admitted and by the third day I was discharged and chest X-ray showed a vast improvement in the amount of fluid present. I felt so much better. I could breath without pain, cough/yawn without discomfort and I was able to properly do my breathing exercises. So I've been home since Monday the 22nd and I will admit that I cried. I was so traumatized by the whole ordeal and just kept crying about what the heck I'd done to myself. I was so nauseous and couldn't even get my liquids down. Everything seemed gross. Anyway two days ago, something just clicked. I've been getting my protein and liquids down and feeling so much better. It's insane how my attitude just changed. I stopped feeling sorry for myself and began to focus and be thankful for my recovery. I'm really looking forward to all that's yet to come. I see my dietician on May 6th and will begin purée stage that day. So looking forward to more than just drinking. Although I am not hungry one bit. Another plus is I've lost 16 pounds in less than 2 weeks. So I guess I wanted to write to just let everyone know that I made it, I'm okay and even though not every surgery goes without complication, that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. So happy to be a fellow sleever and can't wait to see what this journey brings!!

Hi all! The big day is Monday. First three weeks post op are liquids. I bought Premier shakes, Lipton soup (I will strain, so no noodles), sugar free diet hot cocoa and vitamin water zero. Any other suggestions? Thanks!!

So happy to be joining and finally posting! This seems like an incredible place to be pre and post surgery. So Cigna put me through two weeks of hell, and after a denial for "missing paperwork" that they did receive, my surgeon did peer to peer review and I was approved yesterday for my April 15th sleeve surgery. Talk about cutting it close!! So this Monday, I will finally be on my way to a new, healthier me. Happy doesn't even describe how I'm feeling!!

Thank you all for the well wishes, I so appreciate them!! On the agenda for the day is a pedicure, stocking up on Premier protein shakes (love those, hope I still will after), broth, vitamin water zero and then just spending time with my two kids. This really is so surreal!!

Thank you so much Ms Skinniness!! So looking forward to it! ????

Hi Will ... I know exactly how you are feeling with Cigna. It's been our insurance for nine years. Never had an issue. But it seems for WLS they can be real pains sometimes. After ALL my paperwork was submitted, they claimed two things were missing, which they weren't and they denied me after a week. Why couldn't they just call the hospital to refax the missing info? My insurance coordinator at the hospital resubmitted them and then I called everyday and kept being told that it was still awaiting review by the medical director. So as of yesterday morning - Friday, I still wasn't approved and my surgery is Monday!! I was really beginning to think this wouldn't happen for me. But my surgeon called Cigna herself and did peer to peer with the medical director and within an hour I got the call from my coordinator that I was approved!! Just keep on them. Call everyday and make sure you speak to your coordinator often. Wishing you the best of luck, and that your approval comes quickly!!

1st month of 6 month supervised diet
MamaBear2 replied to journeyofkeisha's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I'm new here and also need 6 months of supervised dietician visits required by my insurance. I already had my first weigh in with the nurse practitioner and meet for the first time with my dietician this Wednesday. Looking forward to learning all I can in these months. However, I can't even imagine waiting that long, feeling very anxious about the 6 month wait. Anyway, I'm sure in the end we will look back and say "wow that flew by." Can't wait to start the rest of my life ...
