I am sorry to hear about the pain and I am hoping you are feeling better by now. I am having my surgery next Monday and I am so scared of all the pain I am hearing from lots of people and I did not know that the pain meds cause constipation. Please keep us posted on you road to recovery since we who are just having the surgery next week need all the information so we know what to expect. thank you again for sharing your story.

You look great and you do look like two different people it is amazing. What do you attribute your great weight loss success after your surgery? I need to have the same mindset since I am having surgery next Monday. I need all the support I can get. Thanks

Glad to hear you are feeling better, do not mean to laugh but you sound like me. It is either my head or stomach that hurts. Good Luck you will be just fine I am having my next Monday. I am so scared but I know I need to do this. Take care.

I am having my surgery next Monday and I am really afraid of all the pain myself. I keep telling myself I will only have pain for a little while and then it will get better. We really are making big changes and this surgery is all about cutting and reconnecting so there is lots of trauma to our stomach's. Are you taking any pain meds? I really hope you feel better soon. One day at a time as they say. Good luck.

Heyher you gave some really good advise I need to keep that in mind when I have my surgery next Monday.

I have to agree with you both. I am hoping that at least 6 months after my surgery I can give my cpap machine back to them. I really want off of it.

Laurelgurl, congratulations on your weight loss, I hope I do as well as you have done. I am having my gastric bypass one week from tomorrow and I am scared. I read that you are afraid of losing too much weight and your surgeon is not too concerned at this point. I would take him at his word right now but if you continue weight loss and do not want to drop more weight I might suggest going to a dietition who specializes working with WLS patients. I already have one and she is great, she has become my right arm thru this whole process and I know I will be leaning on her more going forward. Do you have a local support group? Maybe they can help too. Good luck and congratulations again.

Hello to all, I am new here and I am having my RNY on March 11th which is coming up very shortly. I was never told about gas pain, should I go ahead and get gas-x or what kind should I get. I have been told I will be in the hospitla for an overnight and go home the next afternoon. I am so nervous but I know I need this surgery. I am so happy to have found this forum, for the past 2 years I have been going back and forth sleeve or rny. I have finally decided to have the rny and I will tell you why. I am a border line diabetic with sleep apnea. I sometimes get acid flex during the day and sometimes at night. I also have a serious sweet tooth it is so bad that I know I should stop but I don't. I had to take a tough look at myself and for once in my life be very honest since I do not want to have another surgery down the road. I spoke with my dietition and we had a very serious one on one discussion and I have decided that rny is the way for me to go. RNY will help eleviate me from going into full blown diabetic's and it is a better way to go if you experience acid reflex since the sleeve can make it worse. RNY will also FORCE me to stop the sugar roller coaster I have been on and it will take my craving for all things sugar away, with the sleeve, I will still have cravings for sugar. I really need to get my life back and start enjoying activities with the rest of my family. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. This journey we are on together is also a personal journey and each one of us needs to do what is best for yourself. I know it is scaring to have your insides re-routed ( I'm scared ) but I do not like having 70 to 80% of my stomach cut out either. My surgeon told me the RNY is the gold standard for weight loss surgery that has been around for 25 or more years. The sleeve is newer and there had been great success with the sleeve but they will be collecting data over the next 20 years to have better picture. Which ever surgery you decide is best for you is up to each one of us. Down deep you already know what is best for you. With all my health issues I know RNY is right for me. Good Luck to all.

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
CA712 replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello to all, I am 63 years old and I have having the gastric bypass done March 11th. that is 11 days from now. I am so nervous and excited all at the same time. At a recent local support group meeting there was a man 69 years young who had this surgery 3 weeks ago and is doing great. So, yes there are those of us 60 and over having surgery. I just wished I had this done 5 years ago but I was too afriad and had too many people in my life who would talk me out of it. I have tried so many diets, liquids, high fiber, Weight Watchers, Nutrrasystem, I would lose the weight but nothing worked permanently for me. I need this surgery to stop and reboot my eating habits. Like they say "there is no going back". I had been going back and forth between the sleeve surgery and bypass for more than a year. My surgeon told me that the gastric bypass is the standard surgery for weight loss and has been for over 25 years. The success of weight loss with the bypass is much better than the lapband and results are better than sleeve especially if you have eating issues with sugar. So, here I am and I am so so happy to find a group of people 55 and over who are going to have this surgery. It makes me feel good to know I have some online buddies to go thru this with. I would love to hear back from you and for all of us who are having this surgery this month I wish you well and keep happy thoughts. Just think of all the good times ahead. I know it will be hard but we can get thru this todether. Take care to all, cheryl -

I am going for my 2nd visit with my surgeon in the morning. I have been on a liver detox diet for almost 9 days now. I see that some of you are already on liquid shakes, I am wondering why I was not put on shakes too. Maybe he will starting tomorrow since my surgery is March 11th. I had to call my family doctor up today, my surgeon's office called to tell me they did not send in all my pre-op test results and a medical clearance letter was not received either. What is really frustrating, I called my family doctor last Wednesday and told them all paperwork and test results needed to be faxed to my surgeon by Last Friday and apparently that did not happen. If my surgeon does not have it all by tomorrow I might have to have my surgery date changed until there is follow thru from my regular doctor. I am so mad right now, it just goes to show you that you need to be pro-active and make double sure there is follow thru from your regular doctor. I will let you know how my visit turns out. It has been a long road to just get here. Fingers crossed!!!

OMG I do hear you. I have the same problem with a friend of mine who is to be my support system. I have decided to keep my distance for a while but that is hard to do when it is your mother. Good Luck.

We all need to remember this.

Congratulations on your 40 pound weight loss. I hope you can see light at the end of the tunnel. I am having my surgery on March 11th and I have seen some folks speaking about depression after sugary. I have decided that 3 weeks post surgery I am going to see my psychologist and may do that for that first 3 or 4 months. Like you I eat went I am under stress, happy or feeling down. Food plays too much in my life and I use food to stuff my feelings so I know I am going to have issues myself. Just hang in there because you are doing great and you are taking care of yourself so try to see all the good you are doing for yourself.
