  1. BigDog, I think you are on to something. I never thought about it before but I think I have always treated dehydration as hunger and never made the connection. I am just starting to get all the water in as of today and I need to get back to drinking more. I will tell you that I feel that is all do is drink water, get protein in, it is like a full time job and it is all I think about each day. I still have a few pains left from surgery and still feel swollen for sure. Some here made the comment that she feels better gulping her some amounts of water I have to say I do to. the little sipping actually hurts more. Have a great day, Cheryl

    Any March Sleevers?

Day 5 post op, still have a little pain when I try to get in and out of bed. I still have a heavy feeling in my stomach area when I walk but I have to say it is a lot better than it was 2 days ago. I am still on stage 1 of eating (more like drinking) and will start stage 2 on Monday. I walked a little yesterday and will do it again today. I have been having trouble getting all my protein and water in each day, yesterday I was able to get 45 grams of protein in and that is up from 30grams from the day before. Yesterday I did manage to get in 62oz of water so I am starting to reach my water intake goal finally!!!!! When they say this is a process they are not kidding I am just taking it one day at a time. I see my surgeon this coming Tuesday for a 1 week followup.
  4. This is day 4 post op and I am still having trouble getting all the water in. It seems that it is all I do counting ozs for water and counting grams for proten. I know this is just the beginning, I guess I will feel better as I move toward stage 2. What time in the morning do you start taking in liquids? I am thinking I am not getting out of bed early enough. Thank you for your help. Cheryl
  5. I spoke to my dietition about water and she told me that she does not want me to drink anything ice cold, water should be room temperature or warm. the warn water is very soothing for the stomach. She also told me to add a little crystal light to the water, stir very well and drink very very slowly. Just tiny sips all day long. I also have several meds that I need to take and they have to be crushed as finely as I can and add it to baby apple sauce (Stage one) for new borns. I really love this forum I get so many ideas. Thanks to all of you.

    Gas pains help

Welcome Wingsofmercy, congratulations on your surgery, I am having mine on Monday March 11th. I have been told by my surgeon and dietition that walking is the best way to get rid of this gas that eveyone is experincing after this surgery. I also have read on this forum that folks are using GAS X strips to help with the gas. I just went to Walgreens tonight and got myself a box. I hope this helps you. Good Luck and God speed for a great recovery.
  8. Hello RNY Buddies, I am having my surgery on Monday March 11th 3 days for now. I am so ready to start this next journey of my life. I was walking around this afternoon and my knees were killing me and it just reinforced me to have this surgery. Like I have said before I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. Wish me luck and good luck to all of you who are still waiting to have this surgery. I am really going to need a shoulder to lean on when I get back from the hospitla next week. There are RNY pros who have been thruough this and I need to know you are there for me. Have a great weekend everyone. I know I will get little sleep this weekend.
  9. WOW Copmom you look great.
  10. Michele you gave some really good advice that I even needed to hear. I am having my surgery in 3 days March 11th and I really needed to hear your statements. I am with you this surgery is giving us a second chance on a healthy life and it is up to each one of us to stay on course. We are giving our stomachs a chance to re-boot so to speak and like a new born baby we need to keep ourselves on water, protein drinks and soup broth for so long then move onto purreed foods like toddler food and back to solid food in time. I wish everyone great success and we can do this together. Best wishes to all of you. Cheryl

    when do you start losing?

You are asking a very good question that I would like to have an answer too. I am having my surgery on Monday March 11th and really would like an answer as well. Hang in there and I hope you are doing well. I think I will keep off the scale until I have my first visit with my surgeon.

    Any March Sleevers?

Congratulations to all of you, it sounds that everyoone is getting thru their surgery. I went to the hospital this morning for my pre-registration at 8:50 and never left until 11:30. My dr. office did not fax my paperwork to the hospital. the girl at registration had to call the office 3 times to push them to get all forms faxed. I even called and they still took their good old time. I had not had anything to eat and did not bring anything with me thinking I would be in and out in about 45 minutes so I had to stop off at a local restaurant and ate a dish of cut up apples and a salad with cheese on it for protein so there went my liver detox. What can I say???

    Any March Sleevers?

Hi UPRR, it sounds like we should be sleeve buddies. Like you I am so nervous and keep second guessing myself should I go thru with this but I always just look in the mirror and know I have to do this. I am just sick of being overweight and always the big girl in the room. I just want my life back and have some fun. I think we are both are experiencing very normal feelings. I will be so happy next week at this time. Good luck and keep me posted. We can compare notes and help each other thru this chapter of our lives. God Bless. Cheryl

    Wine....

Giving up caffeine has been so hard for me to do, I had a headache for 4 days going off this stuff, I had no idea I was addicted to caffeine so much. I have been told by my dietition that I can not drink any caffeine after RNY sugery because caffiene strips the body of much needed vitamins and nutrients and that we do not want that.

    Any March Sleevers?

Katia, Good to hear the surgery is behind you and that you have been walking around that is really good to hear. Have your hiccps stopped? I am really sure that did hurt. I am having surgery this coming Monday and all I do is worry. I sure hope I do as well as you. keep us posted. I am sending you positive thoughts and prayers your way. Cheryl
  19. Hi there and good luck on your upcoming WLS. No my dr. did not have me do a 2 week liquid pre-op diet. I see that some doctors do. I am amazed at how different these doctors can be. I past week in a half I have been on a liver detox diet using regular food that my dietition told me to eat. Since I am in my last week before my surgery I am not allowed white potatoes, caffeine of any kind ie: coffee, tea, diet soda and candy or anything with chocolate. So, I have been drinking water, decaf coffee and tea, water with crytsal light and caffeine free root beer. I sure hope this helps, Since you are still a month away I am sure your surgeon or the dietition that works with your surgeon will be letting you know what to eat the last 2 weeks before your surgery. I sure hope this helps you and if I can help again please let me know. I am here for you. Cheryl

    Any March Sleevers?

Pammie so good to hear that your surgery is all over, I am so happy for you. It sounds like you are doing very well. Do the pain meds take away all the pain or does it just dull the pain? I have been told gas can get bad so that is why they want you up walking ASAP. Good Job Pam you made it to the other side. Rest easy tonight. Cheryl
  21. Well after 3 years of deciding which surgery to have and speaking with my surgeon and dietition numerous times I have decided that the Gastric Bypass is the right way for me to go. This has not been an easy decision for me to make as I am over 55 years old. I have done all my testing and the results have been sent in to my dr. I have had my final meetings with both surgeon and dietition and on Monday March 11th 2013 I will be having my surgery. Needless to say I am very nervous and scared just like so many of you who are about to have this life changing surgery. I have faith in my dr and his team. I have tried so many diets over the years, you name it and I have tired it but I have never had lasting results. Eating has always been an issure for me especialy all thing sweet. Because of this gastric bypass is the right way to go for me. I have been reading some of the forums on this site and see that lots of people are have lots of pain even after 5 days post op but I have to remind myself that this is to be expected since re-routing your digestive system would be painful, I hope I get all the meds I need to get thru the first 2 weeks after surgery. I also read that some people have lots of gas after surgery and that Gas X is a must. Does this clear up over time or is this something I will have to deal with the rest of my life? Anyone of any thoughts about this. My quality of life really sucks right now. It hurts to walk, cannot bend over to tie my shoes, I have no engery to walk or even do house chores, I can take a shower and then have to set down to rest. It is so ridiculous and now I am founding that I do not want to socialize with the few friends that I do have. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. I was really hoping that I would get some energy after this surgery but it looks like it will take a while before that happens. I am having trouble sleeping at night thinking of this surgery next Monday ( I really do think the waiting is the worst part of the whole thing) you can correct me if you think I am wrong. I really am happy that this surgery is available for people like me and I am so overdue taking this next chapter in my life. I will share more of my thoughts with you the day before my surgery and when I get back home from the hospital. I just want to share my experiences with you since I am sure there are those who are still trying to make up there minds and for those who are scheduled for late March and April. I am just so happy to have found this forum. Take care.

    Any March Sleevers?

Well gang, I did all my grocery shopping today and have everything organized on my kitchen counter so I do not have to worry about grocery shopping when I get home from the hsopital. I see that some of you are doing a colon cleanse the day before your surgery. I have to do the same but I was told to use 2 fleet bottles the day before and not food or even water from midnight on. Monday will be here soon. I am so scared and excited at the same time like the rest of you. Good luck to all the sleevers in the month of March.
