  1. I am now offically 3 months post surgery. I am down 56 pounds and my BMI is now 48.7 down from 58. So far I am happy with my results. Like I have said before this surgery is serious and not for the faint of heart. It took me 3 years to comes to terms as to whether or not to have this surgery. I have been down the road with so many of the diet programs out there and have never had the results I needed and getting fatter each time I dropped off. This surgery has saved my life. Yes, I still have some bad days but I have been learning to cope with the changes that I still need to make. There is no going back just moving forward. There are so many foods that I miss and I am hoping to get them back over the next 2 years but I am where I am these days. Sipping my water, getting my protein in and now enjoying a few steamed veggies and that is OK with me. I feel sometimes like a new born baby who has to take it slow and graduate to the toddler foods before I can start back to regular diet. LIke anything else slow and easy is my montra these days. I still have a long road ahead of me and I just take it one day at a time. If I had'nt had this surgery I am not sure where I would be today so I am happy. Yes, food does taste different to me, I do not crave sweets but that is OK since that is what caused my weight to go up over the years. I feel like I am really in control for the first time in my life. This surgery like any surgery is a risk but one that I needed to take. My blood presure has gone down, I am no longer a borderline diabetic, my knees still hurt but not like they used to. I am still on a cpap machine and I hope by the end of the year I can say goodbye to it. My depression is going away and I am more optimistic about my life. I wish all of you well on your journey. Keep the posts coming folks.
  2. Source: 3 Months post op and Dumping
  3. I sure hope there are a few of you that can help me. As of today I am 3 months post op and have been experiencing some dumping. I have with the help of my nutrionist figured out I am lactose intolerent to high fat cheeses. She now has me on all things low fat like low fat swiss cheese, low fat chedder and mozarolla. this certainly has helped me and I am now taking Probiotics and have been on them for one week. I was told it would take me 28 days to have the probiotics kick in. Is there anyone who buys their Probiotics over the counter? Is so what brand do you buy? And, are they working for you. Some of this stuff is getting very expensive getting it thru my nutrionist. Also, If you have been taking Probiotics and you still are dumping what are you taking to help? I try to eat low fat and I have not had anything sweet since my surgery so I am not sure why all this dumping. Like I said if there is anything else besides Probiotics you are taking to help. Thank you all for your help. I am running out of ideas.

    60 and over question

Weewer, I hope you are doing well these days, have not heard anything from you. Keep in touch with Sassy and me when you get a chance.
  6. Girls I see we are all dealing with loose skin issues; does anyone think they will have a tummy tuck done in the future? I am almost 3 months post op and have a long way to go but I did hear that they will not do cosmetic surgery on WL folks until you are 18 months past your surgery. Is this true? Thanks

    Your worst mistake

I too bought Healthy Choice Yogurt and ate 2 of them (there are 3) in the container. Tasted so good and then I felt bad that I did it. I just needed a little something that turned into 2 little somethings. Never again.

    probiotic

I am 3 months post op and I am having some dumping issues even though I am doing most things correctly. I just sent an email to my nutrionist and asked her about Probiotic's and she told me this would really help. She is sending me Zygest-Pro to take and I will see what this is going to cost me. If I can get a probiotic that is good and less cost that will be great. I will look for it at CVS. Thanks for the information.

    60 and over question

Hello WeeWers, I do get some remarks that I look like I have lost some weight but no too many so far. I guess I have to get rid of another 50 pounds before I am really noticed. My husband has not said too many things to me either. I am not sure what that is all about. He upports me by taking me to my doctor visits or to my local support group meetings but that is about all. He still wants to eat out a lot and this has been giving me some issues since there is not much for me to eat on most menu's. I really thought he would want to eat in more since my surgery but that is not the case. He does get mad at me when I tell him to go ahead and eat without me. I am 3 months out and have a long way to go so I am not sure what to do about him, he is not going to change at this stage of the game.

    I am Afraid

Sassy, did I miss something? Has your surgery been scheduled? Cheryl

    I am Afraid

Hi ladies, well it is almost 3 months since I have had my surgery and I am down 50 pounds. I started with a BMI of 58.8 and now my BMI is 49.9. I am so happy but the past 3 weeks have been hard to say the least. I am having my first weight loss stall and no matter what I do the scale will not show a loss. I keep myslef motivated by telling myself I could never have lost the 50 pounds without this surgery. This past week I had to have a D&C done so I waited a few days to get on the scale so now I am up 11/2 pounds. I just want to scream. I am so hoping to have at least 75 pounds off of me by 6 months and this is making me crazy. Well ladies hang in there we are all in this together. Talk to me soon. Cheryl

    WOW!

I can honestly say I have not had any plastic surgery, OH, I just remember I don't have a pic on this site. I need to get one soon.
  15. Here is a post that I hope a few people will reply to: What are some ways we can help pull thru a weight stall? We are all going to experience them during a weight loss jurney.
  16. Hope everyone had a great weekend, I hate hot, humid weather and love cheese and flavored water. Share something about yourselves!!!!
  17. I am almost 3 months out from surgery and down 50 pound, my BMI was 58.8 and now it is 49.9. I still have a long ways to go but I will hang in there. We are need to support each other in a positive way. We are know this was not going to be easy but I think we are all doing our best. I feel so sorry for those who are having a rough time right now. Complications can come up anything during the 1st year after surgery and I hope and pray these are issues that can be helped with our surgeons and nutrionists. The not eating is a bummer but this is what we wanted, we had surgical intervention to help us stop eating and gain control over food and this surgery sure does do that. Anyone will gain weight back including myself if we do not learn anything from this. Most of us are emotional eaters, we eat when we are happy, sad, frustrated or feel that our friends and family just don't get us. I know I have an eating disorder and no Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, or Nutrasystem diet is going to cure me so this surgery has helped me. I also have thryroid issues so it is just tough for me all the way around. My heart goes out to those folks who are sufferning from the surgery but really try to stay positive, we had all made the decision to have this surgery and there is not going back. Ebrace today and the days to come and with the help of God we can make it to our goals. I have already seen changes in some of my friends, some do not like seeing me 50 pounds lighter and this makes me laugh since I have another 120 pounds to go. If they are this way now, what the hell are they going to be like another 120 pounds from now? I think I need to start looking for a new support group and new friends. Hang in there guys we are on our way!!!! The journey is really a life long process.

    You look great !!!!
  19. Hello, I have been a member for the past 2.5 months and I have lost 50 pounds since my surgery but my problem is this: I need to start excercising and I do not know where to start. I know this seems silly but I have been extremely overweight for the past 12 years and had a job where I mostly sat at a computer. I now have knee problems and when I stand for more that 15 or 20 minutes my knees start to hurt. I had been thinking that losing 50 pounds would be a bog help and it has the pain in my knees do not seem to be getting better as fast as I was hoping. The past almost 3 months I have not been doing too much excercising and I need for this to stop. Can anyone recommend an excerise tap for someone like me? I really need help before it is too late. I need to start something ASAP. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help. Cheryl

    Calling All Sixties!

Hello WeeWers how are you? I hope you are doing well these days. I have been trying to find this group but for some reason it dropped off and I still cannot figure it out. After a 2 week stall I lost another 2 pounds so I am now officially down 50 pounds since surgery. This is really hard I would have thought the weight would come off fast but it is not. I think some of my problems come from the fact I am still so heavy and walking is just an effort for me at this point. My knees still hurt when I walk around for more than 15 minutes so there is no 30 minute walks for me. I am hoping this will be resolved in time. I did'nt get fat overnight so getting thinner will also take time. The hot Florida weather is now upon us and it will be hot and humid until end of October. When is your surgery date? I had mine done in Tampa, FL by Dr. Alfredo Fernandez on March 11th. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing. Always, Cheryl

    Discouraged ...

I know how you fall feel and it can be a little bit of a roller coaster ride the first months after surgery but hang in there it will come off. Just make sure you are getting in 64oz of water each day. This is very important and aids in your weight loss. Next, if you are 1 or 2 months post op make sure you are getting in all your protein I was 60-65 grams a day. I know this is hard because you are not hungry but work on getting it in each day. Another thing ( I really hate to bring this up) but it is important that you have a bowel movement each day. If this is not happening or you are going 1 to 3 days without one that will keep the weight from coming off too. If this is the case, you should speak with your surgeon or if you are working with a nutrionist call her/him and let them know and ask what can be done to help with this. When someone told me this was going to be a journey they were not kidding. Good Luck All.

    Deleting Notifications ?

WeeWers, I do not know how to delete either. I have been trying on my own to figure it out but I am not successful. Sorry I cannot help. Take care, Cheryl
  23. WeeWers, just try to lose the 20 pounds and get the psych evaluation too. I had to get a psych evlauation myself. This is all part of the process and the process continues even after your surgery. You have to jump thru lots of hoops. The surgeons are following the guide lines setup by Health Insurance Companies I also had to have 3 different bllod tests completed within 3 weeks of my surgery too. I did lots of running around to get everything done for my surgery. It is already May 20th so June will be here before you know it. Any weight you can lose before surgery will make the surgery go easier on you. Even if you do not get 20 pounds off but you did get 15 pounds down anything will help. I had mime done on March 11th so I am already 2 months post op. If I can help let me know. Best, Cheryl

    The Boomer Chat Room

Hello Ladies, It is good to hear from all of you. It is so hot and humid in southern Florida today and I am so happy I had this surgery in March. It is hard to believe that I am coming up on my 11 week post op. Where does the time go? I can really understand anyone being excited and scared all at the same time. I was exactly like that up until the day of my surgery. I went to bed the night before my surgery asking myself if I am doing the right thing. It is amazing that in the middle of the night around 3am it just came to me that I need this surgery to get my life back. No one else was awake but me just staring up to the ceiling. I needed to make this decision for myself and no one else. I know it is a very serious surgery but I was willing to take the chance since I had a great surgeon who I trusted with my life. First 2 weeks were hard for me. I was always tired, I had some pain and could not eat all my 60 grams of protein and 64oz of water each day. I learned along the way that this is normal. Some people a week later just go back to work. I on the other hand took a little bet longer to get myself up and moving, everybody is different. I am walking now but not like I should be and that might be the reason that I have not lost weight in the past 2 weeks. I am a little disappointed but I am keeping on track and I know the weight will come off again. This really is my 1st weight loss stall that I have heard others talk about. I hear that there are other stalls along the way but just think about 6 months from now or a year from now how much better off we will all be with this weight off of us. Since I have 11 weeks under my belt if anyone has any questions I will be happy to answer them for you and if I do'nt have an answer I will be honest and tell you. That is way I love this group of Boomers, with age comes wisdom. Take care and have a great Sunday Evening. Cheryl
