    pre op "cheat" ?

There was an article posted on here somewhere and if I can find it I will post the link. It talked about restriction and how most people misunderstand what "restriction" with lap-band really means. It totally changed my idea about how lanp-band works and I honestly think reading it may have made the difference between me being successful and not being successful. A must read for everyone considering in my opinion!!

    pre op "cheat" ?

If I wanted to I could eat the same amount as before. The bands job is not to keep you from eating, but to keep you feeling fuller longer and make you fill fuller faster. The band is placed around the part of the stomach where the nerves are that tell your brain you are full and are therefore activated more often. I was one a 10-day pre-op diet and am SOOOO thankful for it. It shrank my stomach and has helped me tremendously since surgery. It thought me what real hunger is and I have no issues distinguishing between real hunger and head hunger. You will also find that eating slower truly does help. When I realized I wasn't really experiencing any "restricting" or having any stuck episodes I slipped back into the habit of eating faster, not good, and would therefore eat more. Still not even close to what I was prior to surgery, but still more than I should have been. I went to the doctor Tuesday for my first fill and the doctor decided not to give me one because I was loosing weight at a good rate. I was a little upset because I was slowly able to eat more. After I left I took a step back and really started to evaluate what I had been doing. Since then I have gone back to the basics; eating slower, smaller bites, and min between bites. It has helped tremendously!! I am satisfied with less and not over eating anymore. It almost fills as if I got my fill. Listen to your doctors, you will be so glad you did.

I have been banded for a little over 6 wks and can swallow the same amount of food as before...I have to make the choice each meal not to. I have no "restriction" and have never had a stuck episode. From my understanding getting stuck can be very harmful to the band and is not something you should use as a training tool. We are not trying to be harsh or unkind. It may come across like that because people need to realize the seriousness of their actions. As stated above you are only cheating yourself and possible even putting yourself in "danger" and at risk of another surgery. Hopefully you will look past what you consider to be harsh and use it as a tool to gain knowledge. Good luck with your journey
  5. So I went for my first fill yesterday, which they wouldn't give me because I am, according to them, loosing enough weight as it is right now. I told the nurse that I felt I was eating more and getting hungrier. She told me to make sure that I was eating every 2-3 hours that way I didn't get to hungry and overeat...huh? I thought the point in the band was so that you could stay satisfied longer between meals and not feel the need to eat every 2hrs. Has anyone else been told this or do this?

    Water intake

I always heard to drink 64oz of water a day and another 8oz for every 25lbs you want to loose. I drink it through the day and have found that it not only helps fight hunger, but I don't retain water as much when I am drinking the proper amount.

Eat Every 2-3 Hrs So I Dont Get Hungry...Huh??

Thank guys! I'm not to upset about the fill. I was a little bummed yesterday, but I think it was more because I wanted the experience and I thought their scale was wrong as It's usually about 3-5 lbs higher than my scale at home. However, I weighted myself this morning and come to find out I did loose an aditional 3.4lbs since Sunday!! YAY!! The hunger is not to bad honestly or I would have "put up more of a fight". This experience as a hole has been surprisingly easy for me. I feel blessed, especially after reading some peoples stories. I think it helps that I wasn't a big snacker to begin with.

  9. ...getting compliments on my hair, lol. It always seems to be when I haven't fixed it either. I think it's misdirected. I think people notice that I look a little different, can't put their finger on why and assume it my hair. Just thought I'd share...kinda funny. Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

    I just don't get it!

"Muscle does not weigh more than fat, any more than lead weighs more than feathers. A pound is a pound is a pound. Where the misunderstanding often comes in is that muscle is much more dense than fat, so that, by volume, it seems to weigh more. That is, a pound of muscle occupies less space than a pound of fat. In addition, because a pound of muscle burns more fat than a pound of fat, even at rest, by increasing your lean muscle tissue mass, you're helping your body burn more calories. If you only have a small amount of weight to lose, then you may feel like the weight training is not helping you move down on the scale. In fact, the number may even go up, but you will look thinner. This is due to an increase in lean body mass (muscle, bone, blood volume) and a decrease in body fat. In other words, even if the scale doesn't change much, you will probably see a difference in how your clothes fit."

Weighing Food - Before or After Cooked

Yes - I was wondering mainly for food and nutrition purposes. Also I was told to eat approximately 3-4oz of meat....
  23. Does anyone else experience this? I find that if I haven't ate for a while or get to hungry my shoulder/collarbone will start to hurt. I was banded on 2/6/13 and this never happened before. It almost feels like the gas pains, but it only happens when it's time for me to eat.
