  1. Officially Sleeved.. it was a breeze

  2. It's official I got sleeve yesterday.!!!. Only problem I've had is stomach spasms (mimic contraction) The doc said I did real good on my pre op diet and that my liver was great and surgery went smooth He repair my hernia at the same time as surgery. I will be doing the swallowing test soon and then will be allowed to have liquids I can't wait cuz i'm dying of thirst. Pain wasn't real bad, just the average laparoscopic pain. The incisions are itching which is to be expected since they are itching.. I will keep you guys updated the more coherent I become... Check out youtube my channel karisero for more details..
  3. Had my edg and I have gastritis and ulcers. The doctor gave me protonix for what I thought was the ulcers but after researching I think it is for both.. My question is if I have gastritis which is inflammation of the lining of my stomach then is it safe to have the sleeve done? I'm worried with the small space and swelling I won't even be able to get water down...my doctor gave me the impression that it will be healed b4 surgery...but im uneasy.
  4. I have heard a lot of people say they were nauseous or threw up after surgery. My doctor has already given me a medicine called Emery just 1 pill to take 3hrs before surgery. I was hoping this means I won't have those issues but I'm kinda of wondering if anyone else knows if it will help?

    Incentive Spirometer

I didn't get the spirometer but did anyone else get the portable leg compressors to prevent blood clots to take home before surgery so that when you go home from hospital you put them on to prevent blood clots?
  9. cool... that makes me feel better. I also have been prescribed zofran for after.. I have never had an issue with nausea and anestesia previously but not sure if there is a reason this is different so i wanted to make sure to take all the precautions that i can. thanks for the feedback

    Regrets?

I have researched VSG thouroughly especially doctors opinions on the procedure and what the future holds. There is a video on YouTube with two of the worlds most famous bariatric surgeons and they are asked what the future holds in regards to WLS. There response was that the band will be obsolete because it is not meant for long term and Sleeve will increase by 40% along with 30% of RNY.. They go into detail about why they think this is the case and I tend to agree with this concept.. As long as you take your supplements and get in your protein then 10-20 years from now we will be here to see the latest WLS gatchet... they are always pioneering old procedures with more advanced. Soon the sleeve will be just as common as insulin, as treatment for obesity.. i'm glad to get in on it now.

    This just got REAL!

my doctor put me on 2 wk liq diet, 1 Protein shake for brkfst, 1 for lunch and then for dinner i can have soup, chili, stew anything hearty but not creamy. for snacks SF Popsicles or Pudding or Jello.. Basically to lose the weight you just need to cut carbs, up your protein and keep calorie intake between 600-800.
  16. I did ask my surgeon and the meds I'm taking are meant to offset the inflammation..
  17. The definition of gastritis is inflammation or swelling. C link below.... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0002135/

    A New Beginning

I completely agree with Jenny.. my surgeon has only done about 300 sleeves but he helped develop the band, he was on the teaching staff of the development of the sleeve and he is actually banded himself. I originally thought i would like Dr. Kim to do it out of Dallas because he has 3000 under his belt.. but after researching both of them use the same bougie size and technique for surgery.. this is probably because my surgeon was a teaching surgeon and even though currently he hasn't done a lot of sleeves his practice is actually moving forward to focus more on sleeves than bands due to the success rates. RYN generally is for Very high BMI's and in many cases those ppl actually have the sleeve done first to loose some of the weight so that the RYN can be preformed without as many complications. So as Jenny said just do your research on your surgeon and his practices and the procedure and as long as you feel comfortable with his answers then stick with him. if you are uneasy then you should follow your intuition and look elsewhere.

i believe the isopure zero carb doesn't have either. you may want to check it out.
  20. So far on my VSG journey due to tests that are required for this surgery I have been informed that I have a hiatal hernia, several small ulcers, gastritis and now fatty tissue around my heart. I prayed about my decision before I pursued my search for a WLS and even during my journey I have continued to pray; that if this surgery is not good for me and not God's will then something would delay or prevent it from happening. So far everything has fallen into place even with each new diagnosis. I can honestly say that with every appointment and day that passes I am more convinced that this surgery is what he has in store for me. I would have never known about these conditions to address them, had i not went down this road. I considered myself to be in good condition other than being overweight. Even with each finding the condition is actually repaired or fixed upon having surgery or achieved through my weight loss which wouldn't happen without this surgery. My chances of developing heart disease or having a heart attack are more likely now than any reason i could talk myself out of surgery. Turns out now i have a co morbidity! If i have the surgery, they fix the hernia, the ulcers have been treated, and the fatty tissue around my heart decreases with exercise and weight loss. Seem to me it's my destiny to have this surgery... with 5 days and counting i don't feel pessimistic, anxious or scared... . i'm feeling very blessed!
  21. Thank you guys for the support... glad to have this forum to share with!

U can only take tylenol for up to 6 months out. My surgeon is fixing my hernia at the same time so urs should b able to. My doc has already called all my meds to pharmacy for when I get home n my surgery isnt till 18th n they are all liquid or dissolvable. Ask about ulcer preventative meds this may also help ur herd.
