I was 65years old when I knew that I would have to have help with my weight. I developed type 2 diabetes which was not being controlled with tablets. I also had high blood pressure and very high cholesterol. Not a very good outlook. I was referred to Prof O'Brian but was not sure that I would be able to have the LapBand because of my age. I did have it and I have to say that this has changed my life and I would do it again, only sooner. It has not always been smooth sailing but the Dr's and nursing staff at the clinic have guided and helped me all the way. I am 2years and 3months post op and have lost 27kgs. In a perfect world I should be 60kgs but that is never going to happen. Slow and steady has always been my goal. I am now off ALL meds for diabetes, blood pressure is near perfect for my age and my colesterol is almost at normal. I go on holiday every few months. Traveling in the outback, flying to Europe, and have been on 4 cruises, one of them for 5 weeks. Not once have I put on weight. Slow and Steady. Enjoy life with your band, let it help you reach whatever your goal maybe but be realistic, remember we were not all made to be size 8 aus.
