  1. I had the same shoulder pain. It sucks! I thought that mine went away, then out of nowhere it came back when I was eating/drinking + randomly throughout the day. My nut told me to SLOW down when eating drinking, which helped. But, it didn't take it away. I walked for 3 hours one day, next day gas was better. Walked for 2 hours the next day, gas gone for good. When I was inside my house walking I rotated my arms/shoulders and moved them all around while walking. Good luck! It sucks but it will pass!

    Switching Doctors Post Op??

Well I hope she said nice things about me like I did her! Lol jk I looked at your profile, your surgeon is less than 10 minutes from my house. I live in Washington Township. The Cincinnati office is about 45 minutes from my house. It's in Evendale right outside of Sharonville, so it's not horribly far. The Dayton office is in the old St Elizabeth hospital off Edwin C Moses. I only have one more appointment in Cincy (for my first fill under fluoro in two weeks) then I will be inDayton. I have been to the Dayton office twice now. Everyone seems very nice, no complaints. They got me in/out quickly. Good luck with whatever you choose!! Sorry that your surgeon is a d-bag, hopefully you will be happy with who you choose. Who knows I may even run into you at the Dayton office!

    On top of the world!!

Thanks! I'm glad that you like reading my journey! I wish that I was a little better about posting my day to day but at least I fill in bits and pieces Lol. I know that I loved reading people's posts who were newly banded. I will start to do better congrats on your upcoming date! I can honestly say that my journey has been very smooth. Just the normal stuff with incision and gas pain. I know you've heard it a million times but sipping Water and walking will save you! Lol My pain was never unbearable. Uncomfortable, definitely! But, overall I was very fortunate. Good luck with everything! ANY questions at all feel more than free to ask. You can pm me or reply on here

    Switching Doctors Post Op??

Dr Curry is my doctor. So far so good! I don't have any complaints. The only thing I will say is other than my consultation and surgery I haven't seen him. Mainly who you see is the Nut and nurse. I'm not sure if this is normal but he has 5 offices and honestly I don't feel it's necessary unless I would need to see him (I do have his personal email address though, which I have used and he's prompt when returning emails). I don't have a problem with this but I felt it was worth mentioning. I'm not sure which office you would go to but I go to Dayton and/or evendale (main office). The nutritionists are great and easily accessible. Several of dr currys staff are also band patients (including dr curry himself). Both of the nutritionists at evendale are banded along with other staff members. I have not had a fill since surgery but I will get my first in two weeks. They don't ration the fills like your current doc that's for sure. I'll be getting fills every 4-6 weeks until I'm in green zone (they have it setup from beginning). Their office understands the band and definitely won't talk crap about it like that nurse did (screw her! Lol). Overall I am very satisfied with their office. Another member here who is a dr curry patient is 2012ALM. Before I was banded I asked her a MILLION questions! Lol She is great! She helped me so much along the process. I can definitely answer any questions that you have but I'm so new (10 days post op) that I haven't experienced everything. She has been banded almost a year and been very successful (almost to 100 pound loss!!) and I believe she has had 7 feels. She will know much more about that part than myself. Also she's very helpful she won't mind answering any questions that you may have. Good luck!! Where are you from? Do you know which office you would go to?

I almost forgot, the last two days I have worn tee shirts that didn't fit 2 months ago when I was 47 pounds heavier!! That's a great feeling!

    Good bye weed

LOL!! Yeah, I can't imagine smoking and dieting... It would be nearly impossible to stick to a diet. This took me back to my "High" school days Lol. There's no way I could have controlled myself to eat small portions of good quality foods. More like Cheetos, pizza, Doritos, McDonald's and chocolate!! Good luck!!

    Any bandings in May????

You will do great! Ask your doc for something for anxiety, I'm sure he will provide something. It is normal to be nervous. Just know that this is the start to a healthier life and remember why you are doing it!! Good luck!!

    Self pay

My doctor said 3,000. Good luck!
  15. Sorry, I reread your post. I was assuming you were following your doc's orders. That isn't clear in your post. If you aren't then you need to call them immediately and follow YOUR doctors postop plan. I'm 11 days post-op I feel like I could eat anything in the world, but I wouldn't, because my doc doesn't recommend it. Good luck!!!
  16. As long as you are following your doctors orders I don't see a problem. I was only on liquids ghe day of surgery. 24 hours after surgery I was allowed purée foods, 14 days after I'm allowed soft foods. Sure it seems fast when compared to some others on here's doctors, but I'm following his post-op diet not theirs. I trusted the man to cut me open and place an object inside of me, I'll trust his post-op diet too. It sounds like you are following his orders but nervous it's too fast. Understandable. Even though I was only required to be on liquids 24 hours, it ended up being about 72 hours because I had no appetite. But, Monday (14 days post op), I'm going to be eating soft foods regardless of what other people's doc's say Lol.slowly, Small bites, chewing like a madman, in correct portions of course. Good luck!!!!!

    CHEATER!

I know it's tough. During my pre-op there were two birthday parties, a family gathering dinner at my sons school (3 course meal) and several regular dinners at home. It doesn't end with the pre-op either. Post-op when I'm on purée (right now), there have been 2 more bday parties (third on Friday) and my sons football team had a final practice dinner at my favorite pizza place. On all occasions I drank water. It was hard, but I wanted the surgery a lot more than I wanted pizza or birthday cake. I heard about people who cheated on pre-op diet and their liver didn't shrink and the doc stopped surgery and they woke up in recovery without a band. That scared the heck out of me. I'm not trying to sound perfect, because I'm not. At one point there was leftover pizza in the fridge, I ripped off all of the roping and was ready to shove them in my mouth and realized how bad I looked sneaking pizza toppings in the middle of the night! Lol I know it's hard! Try your best to stick to it! YOU deserve it!! A couple times when I felt very tempted to cheat I would go for a walk, go outside do yard work. If they were eating one of my fav dinners I would go in the garage and start cleaning stuff up/going through stuff. Good luck!!!

    Lap band "diet"

One thing that I recommend is joining myfitnesspal. You can find forums on here full of banded people who use the site. You can view everyone's food diary (unless they make it private, most don't), and see what REAL banded people eat on a day to day basis. I'm a 28 year old guy, I don't do well with recipes etc. lol. I like to see actual meals that people who are banded had to eat that day! Obviously not everyone eats healthy with the band, but most on there do well. For me this helps, but everyone is different! If you do join the site I'm Ericnorth25, look me up. Good luck!!

    Switching Doctors Post Op??

I am only 9 days post op but I can understand being frustrated and considering switching doc's. if he doesn't think fills can help with hunger then what the heck does he think they do? I'm sure it wouldn't be an easy process to switch but maybe you can schedule another appt with him specifically to go over your concerns and get his thoughts on what the band is supposed to do! I don't blame you for wanting to switch at all, I'd be feeling the same way. Good luck!! Keep up the great work!
