Post-Op Roundup - how is everyone doing?
Creekwood replied to cat whisperer's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Surgery was on May 6th. Lost 20 on my own before pre-op, 16 on pre-op and 10 since surgery! For almost two weeks now I have been at the same weight. I wake up early and walk/jog 1-2 (usually 2) miles 6 days a week. Tomorrow morning I'm walking 3.1. I'm training for my first 5K which is on June 8th. I feel great!! I have very few food limitations right now, per my nutritionist. My first fill is Monday. I know that it takes a few fills to feel restriction for most but man I feel like I'm hungry 2 hours after I eat, just about every time! So I'm hoping for a miracle in the restriction department The weight loss post-op is a little slower than I would like but I know this time is for healing. 8 of the ten pounds was the first week. Then 2 pounds in following two weeks. But, the scale will catch up with my hard work! Overall I feel great! No problems to speak of. Incisions are healing nicely. No pain/discomfort, no nausea (except when I take my Vitamins, they kind of gross me out Lol), looking forward to being cleared for more exercise on Monday. I have already had my blood pressure dosage cut in half, and hope to be completely taken off on Monday! Good luck to everyone and I wish you all the success in the world! P.S. sorry that I haven't posted much lately. I have been very busy, summer semester started and tomorrow's my son's last day of school. I also am back at work, which I have had 0 issues with! -
So i am "running" my first 5k on June 8th! I have NEVER been a runner. I never even considered running/walking a 5k, just not my kind of thing. But, it was deeper than that. I was embarrassed. Embarrassed of my size. Will I finish last? What if I can't finish? It will be embarrassing if I have to walk it all? Can I even walk 3 miles? What if its really hot outside? What if I cramp up? I'll just do one later down the road when I have lost more weight... All of these questions, all of the doubt. But, I've lost 47 pounds so far since I set up my initial consult and my attitude has changed! Screw waiting!! I'm ready now!! I've been training for my 5k with the help of LJCBF a dim going to kick this 5k's a**!! 6 days a week I set my alarm to wake up earlier than I have in forever and I get outside and walk/jog between 1-2 miles! I still can't jog for very long distances, I still weigh over 300 pounds. But, I no longer worry about finishing last. I don't even think about cramps, weather, I'm not embarrassed about my size. I'm just going to go out there put one foot in front of the other for 3.1 miles! I'm going to finish and that's what I care about! It feels good to be out every morning training. I will update everyone on how it went after the race.

What did your lap band cost out of pocket?
Creekwood replied to dford's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
$12,999 in Cincinnati (go REDS!) includes 2 years of fills/aftercare. -
I'm three weeks post-op and walk/jog 6 days a week (starting last week). My doc allows it and I've had 0 problems. BUT, I've only jogged a few times and its for very short spurts of time followed by fast paced walking. Ask your doc, good luck!!!

I wish that I remembered more, I need to have him make me a binder. He gave one to all of the brothers, not sure what happened to my Dad's when he passed. I just remember that we have Native Americans in our family tree and somehow it was connected to Matoaka aka Pocahontas. So I was related to the lady who had the first interracial marriage in the United States Another cool thing they did was track down a school that my great great great grandmother taught at hundreds of years ago. It was in a tiny village in Kentucky, about the size of an average shed (literally). But, it was still standing (barely!), and was really cool to see. It's a neat site, I suggest that you give it a try. BUT, to make real progress you must put in a considerable amount of time. Unless, someone in your family has already put together some pieces I the site.

Better to be nice and fat, than mean and thin.

So are you telling me the daily enemas don't work?! Lol -
That's awesome!! Congratulations, you look great!bb

As long as your doctor is alright with it, I wouldn't worry about it. Some people have 0 days of pre-op diet. So if your doc says that 3 days is enough, don't stress it! Good luck!!!

My port site was very tender for at least a week. Gas pains lasted about the same. I never had back pain, but definitely the shoulder/neck area. It will pass, walk as much and often as you can. Another thing that I did was like windmill my arms while walking and even shoulder shrugs. Not sure if it helped or not but I did it Lol. My stomach growled like crazy for about 3 or 4 days. But, I was on purée at that point and was able to eat a little and it went away. Depending On how long you are on liquids the growling might stick around! Lol good luck! Sounds like you are doing great and are right on track!!
