  1. I know this thread is old, but I was just researching this! I have had this on and off for 6 years if I lay on my back, but since 2 days after surgery, it has been non stop in my right thigh! So irritating. I'm seeing my doctor Wednesday to see if there's anything I can do. Glad to see I'm not alone.

I did check with the Dr and they really had no explanation but just so you know it is 95% back to normal. I don't even notice it anymore and mine was my right leg too. Since writing that my band slipped and was removed and 4 months later put back on. I have had no problems with numb thighs or anything else this time around!!! I'd say it did last about 6 months though. Good luck to you!

  2. Thanks for your support and you'll be happy to know that I was rebanded on the 19th of Nov, 2008 and it is very different from the first. I do not have the immediate restriction that I did with the first but it is good because I think I can live the rest of my life with this one because with the old one I wasn't sure how I would stop losing once I got to my goal. This one is definitely taking alot longer to find my sweet spot and I am not losing yet but I do think I will within the next couple of fills!!!

Good luck to you, I truely believe in the band!!!!!

  3. Just wanted to say goodbye to this part of my life. I unfortunately lost my band on July 14,2008 after having it for only 7 months. I was on vacation when it slipped and after 4 horrible days of throwing up and pain and visiting 3 different hospitals to get better, Dr DelaTorre removed it at the hospital in Columbia MO. Unfortunately I also aspirated on the OR table and wound up in ICU for 4 days and almost on the ventilator. Thank God I didn't but it was rough! I missed my whole vacation with my family by being in the hospital instead.

I would love to have the band again but I am very scared of any surgery again because of the fear of aspirating again. I have gained almost 10lbs since removal 2 months ago and I am very scared of gaining my 60 lbs back that I lost already. I am watching the scale everyday but my will power isn't that good that's why the lap band was so wonderful for me!

I believe my band slipped because when I was on vacation and I threw up because of eating to fast or not chewing well enough I was able to sit on the side of the tub and bend in half and throw up in the toilet which was very comfortable but I think it put too much pressure on my stomach and that is why it slipped. At home if I got sick I only could lean over from a standing position because my tub has slidining doors on it. I wish I would have known this before and maybe I would still have the band and be losing instead of gaining!

Good Luck to everyone and remember--don't sit down to throw up!

    Good Bye,

    Lisamarie

  4. I have had 3 fills and 1 unfill for a total of 4cc left in my 10cc band and I am still having a hard time keeping food down with anything other than soft foods and liquids. It was better for about 5 days after my unfill but now it is getting hard again to eat food. I really think I am chewing and eating slow enough but maybe not??? I have never been able to eat like I did before surgery. I think I may need to have another unfill.

I would love for somebody to do a poll on how much and how many fills people have when they reach there "sweet spot"!!!

  5. What how long did the entire process take? I heard they wanted you to go on a 6 month diet? Is that true?

I did have to see a dr. for 6 months before my insurance would approve. I even lost 40 lbs and they still approved the surgery! The whole process took close to a year with the 6 month of dr visits.

  6. I am having trouble adjusting to my last fill too. I even had an appt. to be unfilled alittle bit but it got better and I cancelled. I have 4 3/4 cc in a 10 cc band. I really don't enjoy eating anymore, most things are getting stuck or hurt going down, but I do like the scale and the way I feel.

I am suppose to go back on 5-3-08 for another fill but I may hold off on adding to it. I will see how I am doing when that day comes. I am looking

forward to having my blood work rechecked next visit to see if I am eating enough nutrionally.

  7. I am almost 18 wks post op and my thigh has been numb since day of surgery! I have about a 4X6 inch area on the top part of my right upper thigh that has been changing and somewhat improving but definitely not gone yet. I asked my doc at my first post op exam and he said it should be gone within a month and he was not sure why it happens. I haven't mentioned it since.

For at least 1 month the area became very sensitive to the touch, almost like a burn. Now it is just partially numb and hasn't change in a very long time, so I think it may be permanent!

Wondering if anyone else has this problem and how long they have had it.

  8. I hope I do as well as you have. I've been frustrated because I can't get out and walk. This weather isn't very condusive to hikes around the neighborhood. I went to the grocery store yesterday just for some exercise. This house is getting smaller every day. I hope we don't get the weather they are calling for tonight.

    Have a great evening.

    Hey

What are you doing up at 1:30am?? Why aren't you sleeping?

I have been in since Wed after the meeting and I probably won't get out till maybe Sat for a viewing, otherwise I would be in till Monday!!! I am catching up on my tv shows and I cleaned my whole house yesterday too. I love these homebound days to catch up!

I really am concentrating on the amount and when I am eating since the meeting. Hopefully that will trigger my weight loss! I leave for Vegas on Thusday and will be back on Monday night. I get my band fill on Thurday after I get home. Hopefully I continue to lose.

You are doing fantastic and I bet you will do so much better since you are wanting to exercise. I am going to try to get some kind of exercise plan in motion but I never have stuck with one before. My son wants to play tennis this spring and I told him I would try with him.

Let me know how things go when you start eating food....

    Stay warm,

    Lisa

  9. Show of hands, who has tried on bathing suits since losing weight?

I think it's the idea I had as a size 30 that when I got to a size 18 that there would be more choices (which there are) and that automatically equals a better ability to dress (which it doesn't). It is because either the suits are vampish, way expensive like $90, printed with bright giant flowers or matronly.

All I want is a black suit that's not got leg holes cut up to my ribs, that's not so deeply cut in the front you see the swell at the top of my stomach, that doesn't tug or dig and doesn't have a granny skirt that's hard as hell to swim in. And I don't want to pay two arms for it either.

It was easier at times to buy a tent, when the only concern was is there enough material here to keep me covered than it is to find stuff that fits. I know much of it is my oddly shaped body and also this image of me at 18 as a size 18 and me at 39 as a size 18. The intervening years were not kind.

And it certainly doesn't help that it's January and 15 degrees outside. The suits are few and far between, but I'm taking the DD to an indoor swimming pool and my old suit is way too big.

If you have the time to wait, try the online stores like womans view, romans, or lane bryant. Great selection and prices!

  10. Lisamarie, Thanks. I am not always happy with the amount of weight I have lost...I should be but I keep wanting it to be more.

I really dont feel like I have much restriction. I go back at the end of febuary for my 2nd fill so I think I can wait till then. I am excercising like crazy. So I am still losing weight. But I can eat anything. With little to no restriction.

That's what I am not good about doing the exercise!!!Yuck!!! I know that it will boost my losing if I could just get with it. I just hate sweating!

Good luck on your next fill!

  11. AlysonRR, I have kind of forced myself to go to the gym. I am rewarding myself if I make it to the gym 10 times in 2 weeks. it is hard but I want to get this weight off really bad and I think working out is the ony way to do it and not have the flappy skin.

    How did your fill go.

I am using cut and paste to post on my fluro...This is what happened with my first fill oh and I am only on liquids for 2 days...then I was told to just take it slow with food.< /p>

OK I had my first fill yesterday. Under Fluor.

For me this is what happened. I laid under the x-ray table pulled my shirt up and pants down just enough to show my belly. He rubbed the area with alcohol. Took a picture of the port to see how it was positioned. Put this long needle in and watched on the screen to make sure he got the port. Then I sat up. He filled the band with 5cc of Fluid (I have the 10cc band). They gave me a glass of Water and I drank it. He switched out the syringe added more fluid had me drink again. When water got stuck he backed fluid out slowly till the water flowed down. I drank more water to make sure everything was going down ok. Then he removed the needle. And I wend home. I think the whole thing took maybe 10 minutes or less and only that long because the x-ray machine was brand new and he wanted to try out the features. It is one especially for bariatric patients.

Wow that is fantastic weight loss. I only had 2cc of fluid put in on my first fill out of 10cc. I can't even tell a difference. I still cannot eat alot at one time but I get hungry in between. I was amazed how easy it was to have filled and how it didn't hurt!

  12. LisaMarie and St Louis Gal,

I'm reading your threads today and would like to know how you're doing. I'm in Edwardsville and am hoping to have LapBand surgery at DePaul. So far I'm just registered for the seminar in early February and I've contacted my insurance co. (UHC). Maybe we can support each other--you guys are a little ahead of me and I know I'll be watching your progress with interest and pulling for your good health and success.

    Orsemus

Good luck to you and if you have any questions feel free to ask me. I am totally happy with my banding, hospital, and the doctors! I am very glad I did it. The weight is coming off slow to me but as long as it is coming off and not going on I am OK!

  13. Ach, my big struggle is Protein.

The nutritionist told me 40-60 per day, with an average of 50. I might get half of that. I'm just not doing well with the Protein shakes.

Now that I'm starting to be able to eat though, I think it will get a little better. I just calculated - I had a little less than 1/4 of a 3 egg cheese omelet for breakfast, so there's 10 Proteins right there.

I too am having a very hard time getting in my protein! I just can't drink anymore Protein drinks and with the little bit I can eat, it isn't adding up to 60 grams! I still have a hard time eating more than a tablespoon or 2 of soft food but I have lost 10 lbs!!!:whoo:

Hopefully it gets better before I develop problems from lack of protein in my system!

    Good luck to you,

    Lisa

  14. Hi Baby Ruth

I am trying for surgery At Columbia Bariatric too Jan Feb hopefully. Any word on how DeLa Torre is as a surgeon?. His Bio reads awesome..but what about him? My seminar he could not attend as he was "called in for emergency". I was disappointed. Would like to know who is cutting on me. What is your taqke on Columbia's evaluation system?

I just had lap band done by DeLaTorre at DePaul Hospital in Missouri and I think he is pretty good and nice to deal with. The only thing is I haven't really seen him a whole lot and I think he may often run late. I saw him for 3 min on pre op visit and another 3 mins before surgery and for 5-10mins when he removed my staples and answered my questions. Otherwise I dealt with his staff and they all are real nice.

Good luck with your surgery, I know I have no regrets on it and I would do it again or recommend it to a friend!! Its been 11 days and 10 lbs lost!!!

    Lisa

  15. I was banded in St. Louis at the Webster Groves Surgery Center by Dr. Wagner on Dec 13th. PM me we can chat.

    Hi Ann

I was banded on 12-19 and I have lost 8.5 lbs so far. As of now though I really don't want to eat or drink anything so much. I really am having a hard time getting my Protein in. Nothing appeals to me and I am not really hungry. Hopefully this improves I know I can't keep this up.

    Lisa

  16. Thanks to everyone who answered all of my Pre banding questions!!:clap2:

I was banded 2 days ago on the 19th and I am feeling preety good! Everything went well! I had a total of 6 incisions and 24 staples UGH!;)

but in all honesty they look like they are healing nicely and they really don't hurt. My stomach is tender and I am still taking the pain med with codeine at least for a few more days I think. I also have liquid tylenol for adults to take next instead.

I go back to the Drs on Wed to have the staples removed!:( I really think that will go alright too. I am just a little nervous:nervous.

  17. since I'm going to be wearing it all the time, I got the sterling . . . but didn't spend quite that much. You can also google medical alert bracelets and you can get all sorts of styles and prices.

Yes I did get a Bracelet. I bought mine from Lauren's Hope online and spent about $60 on it but I can't swim with it. (I was told it would last longer if I kept it as dry as possible) The clasps are very hard for me to put on and take off so I sent it back to have a magnetic clasp put on it but because I didn't do that at the time I first placed the order I had to pay an additional $30 for the magnetic clasp, labor and shipping! It has turned out to be pretty costly, but it is very nice to look at and pretty important to have in case of emergency!

  18. I am seeing Dr. Scott. Good Luck on Wednesday. ;) It is going to go well.

I'm anxious to hear how things go at DePaul. So far I am very impressed with the clinic.

Thanks and I will let you know how things go. I like the staff so far, but I only have seen the Doc for about 5 mins 1X. Everything has been good so far though. Hopefully the hospital is great too. I wish I knew someone that had it done at DePaul in MO to ease my mind about it all. Talk to you soon!
