    Steamed re: SELF article

OMG I am so tired of people calling this EASY! First, anything we do to lose weight can fail if we don;t commit, even surgery. Even though I have a band, I can still consume excessive amounts of ice cream, puddings, chips, and other crunchy foods easily. My doctor and I discussed this and it is normal because these foods digest real easy, so I still have to use WILL power to lose weight, the band is just an aid, but it is definitely not the "easy way out". If inability to eat foods you have always enjoyed like steak and pork is easy, if the inability to have a beer with your friends is easy, if making a life long decision to completely alter your body and "volunteer" for surgery and lifelong followup is easy, they I guess it is the easy way out, but all thos things for me were and still are HARD!! But as a wife and mother I felt I owed it to myself and my family to address my chronic weight issue and stop "yo-yo-ing" like I did on the many many diets I tried and actually do this FOREVER, and although it has been difficult, and there have been times I have questioned why I did this to myself, it is the greatest thing I ever did and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!!! Forward THAT to SELF!!! lol

    Submited today to Cigna

Girl, all I have to say is GOOD LUCK!! I had my band last October. It was supposed to be September, but Cigna SUX!. I had double coverage, my BCBS was primary, Cigna was secondary. All they would have to pay is my $3000 "stop loss" from BCBS. BCBS had to pay all the rest. BCBS approved me in 24 hours and even sent me a "good luck" letter. CIGNA denied my surgery. I was 160 lb above my ideal. I had a 46 BMI. I jumped through all the hoops, and they denied $3000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe it?? My husband argued it to death with them. He asked if they would ather pay for my health and joint problems that would result from my weight. They said "we will not argue what we will and will not cover". Eveyone we spoke to was rude, and according to the insurance specialist at my doctor this is not unusual. When she and I had our first meeting she discouraged me from even persuing CIGNA coverage because they were so hard to work with. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck, maybe you can get them to wake up and realize the value of this amazing surgery. I have lost 70 lb so far and am a new woman, and it was well worth the $3000 I had to pay. I hope you persue it regardless of Cigna.

    Omg my port is detached!!

well that stinks!! so what did they do? I had a scare that was similar to that. My doctor tried to do my first fill in the office without xrat, but was unable to find the port. I have to sweat it out for a week until they could schedule me in xray, but thankfully everything was OK he was just about 1/2 off. He documented the location better and on my subsequent fill he found it no problem.
