Tooooomorrow tomorrow...
shazini replied to shazini's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made it, Wooo hooo! The surgery went well according to the Doc. I had tiny hiatal hernia which they fixed. Very nauseous right after but it went down but came back when we got home. I'm okay now. I've been virtually pain free with couple a hits from my liquid pain med. Other than that I guess it's just one day at a the time. :D -
Diabetic Type II and I have Questions for Pre Op and Post Op
shazini replied to vacationgirl1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Why is that? Are you on insulin? Oral or injected with T2 you should not be hypo if you don't eat every 3 hours. Either way, I'm T2 and have been on the liquid diet for 13 days and everything is fine. I had to cut my meds drastically but doing great and lost 15 lbs in first 4 days. My surgery date is this coming wednesday the 6th. My first appointment was mid January. I got insurance approval in 5 days so no having diabetes will help not hinder. Best of luck. Let us know how it goes. -
...is to do the Harlem shake!

I met with the surgeon yesterday for the last time. We talked and he checked me out, so I said, "Hey I'm sexy and I know it!" I'm exactly a week away, my surgery is at 11:00 Am on the 6th. Oh and all that bitching about liquid diet paid off -- lost 15 lbs in 4 days. Did have some random cramping issues even though I'm very well hydrated. he told me to eat a couple bananas and call him in the morning if there is still an issue. I'm okay now but if it comes back I need to have some blood drawn for electrolytes check. Getting close folks -- it's almost there.

I hear you. The closest I've been to surgery is when I had an endoscopy but even then that's not full anesthesia. I know there are other things more worrisome e.g. PE or blood clots but anesthesia my bugaboo. It'll all be okay I'm sure.

I worked at Allergen as an contractor, they are very proud of their botox. the money it brings. 7:30 Am is good That means you might be home by noon or even earlier. Mine got pushed back to 11 AM because he has very hard case and he wants to do him first. Any who, it is what it is.

Less than 24 hours before my surgery!
shazini replied to Mikeskimask's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Way to go, you'll do great. Let us know how it goes. Good Luck. -
Della, I'm getting banded on the 6th also. The way I look at it is my weight is putting my life in danger not to mention all the fun I'm missing out on because of the extra poundage. I Live for today for now for this second, tomorrow I might get hit by a bus, who knows. I'll deal with the band issues as they arrive. Worrying about ten years from now just seems pointless to me. What will you do if someone said, "yes they breakdown and bla bla bla..." Are you going to postpone your surgery? If the answer is yes then you might want to rethink the whole thing. I'm not trying to be an @ss here just trying to help.

From your ticker it looks like you're pre-op and doing the liquid, correct? I just bought Premier Protein drinks from Costco; they are ready to drink no fuss no muss. HTH

Okay so I'm a couple days into this pre-op liquid food plan and I must say I'm not a fan! I've been on a lot of different eating regiments but never this -- it sucks. No I'm not gonna quit, what're you take me for. I'm just bitching around here that's all!

Until the surgery on 03/06/13 same as you.

According to my Doc I have a small one also. There are couple three different ways they can tell. The most common is Barium Swallow test in which they use x-ray while you drink a liquid containing barium. They can also see it during an endoscopy exam. Another way is a pressure study which I'm not familiar with at all, just know that they measure the pressure in your esophagus. That is the end of my knowledge. HTH.

March 2013 Surgery Dates?
shazini replied to ShannaS's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey I got here late I'm March 6th. I have my moments of fear or apprehension but not many. -
Hello all Just wanted a quick Hi howdy dos. I have not had the surgery but have an appointment on Monday the 7th. I was basically told to do this because my medical condition. I have type 2 diabetes and was put on insulin in June after I had pancreatitis. While I was doing real well with my oral meds, lost 46 lbs and was very active, insulin has screwed everything up. I've regained all the weight even though I'm still eating the same way but I guess with insulin you'd have eat a lot less. So both my endocrinologist and primary care doc want me to have this done. I'm not sure but I'm going to see the doc on Monday. I've struggled with my weight all my life and a part of me is real excited about this but another part is going, "wait a minute what if ...." I guess you can say I'm excited and scared at the same time. Thanks for listening.

I wasn't told about my time just that I was first. I do Have one more appointment on the 26th for more education and a multiple guess test . I'll have my time then. Yes I'm very nervous and excited after all my belly and I have been through a lot. Good luck to you too.

Oh I believe you the question mark was about gas-x helping with the Co2 that they pump into the abdominal cavity. I don't see the correlation unless the gas seeps into the stomach. Then again what do I know, I'm new to all this.

+ 1 on what TMF said.

Pre Surgery Labs in- diagnosed..
shazini replied to MileHighDreamer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not clear here Do you have diabetes or not? Your lab showed you have it or...??? If you have it chances are you've had it for a long time and you just became aware of it. 8 more day is not an issue, nothing will happen in 8 days. With that said wherever you live (Denver I assume) there are free clinics look them up and go to one. Most of them have a makeshift pharmacy and can get you on some meds for nothing or very little money -- we're talking 5-7 bucks. While you're at it stay off of crabs as much as possible. I am not a medical professional and everything said here is from personal experience -- see a doctor ASAP! -
Got a call a bout 2 hours ago that I got approved. All Labs done except for an EKG which I have scheduled for tomorrow at 11:00 AM. Meet the Doc to go over the labs on Thursday and set the date. Been very nonchalant about it all so far except right after the first meeting but now I'm getting apprehensive. This needs to be done and it's going to be done that's all there is to it. B)

Yes, thank you. The decision is Lap band. I know of 5 people who have had bypass, one is DEAD, another is an alcoholic, and the other three have gained their weight back. Yesterday I had my first interview -- about 2.5 hours of talking to the shrink, nutritionist and the PA. Now we're waiting for my insurance to come through. peace.

Thanks everyone for your comments and encouragements. Saw the Doc today and was very surprised about the fact that he kept pushing bypass surgery over lab band. Frankly his explanations made no sense to me or my wife who is an ICU RN with 30 years of experience. Well I'm not going through with bypass, it's either Lap-band or some other doctor. I'm not having a perfectly good organ butchered so I can lose weight -- not that desperate. I'm going to talk to my endo and primary care docs to see what they have to say.
