    Lap Band to Sleeve

I had my band for 5 1/2 years and didn't have any problems (except weight gain) until about 8 months ago when I went to get a fill. The doctor couldn't find my port which is never been an issue in the past. Turns out my port was turned around and underneath scar tissue. Moving forward on July 23rd approximately 4 weeks ago I had my lap band removed and revision to the sleeve. In my case my lap band did not come out easily for the doctor. It was bolted in with mesh, and attached to my abdomen. My 45-minute surgery took about 2 hours and 15 minutes. But there were no complications other than that and my doctor was able to continue with the sleeve gastrectomy right away. I'm telling you this just to make you aware I did have pain longer than most people do, in my incision mostly. I was pretty weak for about two and a half weeks. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks and I finally feel almost like myself. It was so worth it though. I had a stall after 2 weeks, but I'm now down about 24 pounds since my surgery date. Good luck, you'll do great! Just trust your surgeon! Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app

any sleevers in their late 50's

Hi, I'm was a month shy of 55 on July 23rd when I had mine. My doc said I had a major surgery, due to the fact that I had my lap band removed,. Which was bolted in with mesh and was attached to my abdomen. I was in pain for about 2 weeks. I went back to work after 2 weeks, and was still really weak. I'm 4 weeks out tomorrow and am finally feeling good. Still can't walk doe 30 min on the treadmill yet though like I used to. Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. I have a friend that has lost 72 lbs on Vyvanse. She said she is rarely hungry, she didn't have WLS though. Her Psychiatrist prescribed it. Sent from my SM-T550 using the BariatricPal App

    April 2013 Banders

Hi all. I am doing well but feeling a little down. I haven't seen my Dr in about a month because I have restriction but I am still hungry. Been up and down 3 to 4 pounds for the last several months. Lost around 60 lb since my lap-band placement on April 4, and about 20 from the pre op diet for a total of 80 so far. I've been at a plateau for about 3 months now. I was hoping my Doctor would start back up with Support groups, but after 4 months without, they finally updated the Facebook page with.....Sorry I haven't updated in a while, we just got a NEW doctor and another to start in April, and we will no longer be having Lap band support meeting. I feel like I have been dumped! Their were three meetings in total. I am very disappointed, to say the least.

Just an FYI to anyone that was planning on attending the Support Group Meeting at Bradenton Surgical Group = Dr. Bunch's Office tonight. The meeting has been cancelled. I called to confirm and was told that Ceaaron was updating the facebook page . I'm disappointed because I missed the last one and really needed this one.

I missed the September support group meeting because I had to work . Dr. Bunch told me that the Dietician was at this meeting, so I was really bummed that I missed it.. Is there any good advice that was given by the dietician that you can share? I'm doing well after my last .25 fill several weeks ago, down 7 pounds. I canceled my appointment for today since he said I didn't need to come in if I am losing weight. I've been seeing him 2 times a month since April so I am going to miss not seeing him. He really makes me feel good about myself and I like seeing the staff.
  7. I just came from my Doctors office after my 3rd fill. I lost another 6 pounds in two weeks. I told him it seemed to easy. He asked me if I was hungry, I said no. He said I was in the green zone. But I am not just eating 1/2 cup of food, I am eating 3 oz of meat and vegatables. He told me as long as I am eating the protein first that I should keep doing what I am doing. He did give me another cc of fluid, bringing me up to 3.5 cc's in my 14 cc band. I don't have to go back to see him now unless I lose less than 4 pounds in 2 weeks, and feel like a need a fill. Onward to goal!!!

Don't be nervous. You can completely trust Dr. Bunch. He is a great surgeon. Where are you being banded. I did mine at Blake because I work there. I had very little pain after the procedure, and I have had no issues as of yet. I am losing weight as I am supposed to, I have had 2 fills, 2cc the first, and only .5cc the last because I lost 5 lb in 2 weeks. I am going Thursday for another fill, I hope he will give me one, I am down another 3 lb in 2 weeks. I lost a lot of weight about 13 lb on preop diet, Then about 10 lb the first month. I am down about 40 )

    2nd Fill

Had my second fill appointment yesterday. I lost 5 lb. in 2 weeks, so I only got .5cc for a total of 2.5cc. I told him I have been hungry between meals which is why I got the .5. On liquids today so I will see soon if I have any difference on the hunger. I have another appointment in 2 weeks for another fill if needed. Hope I continue to lose 2 lb a week, that would be awesome!
  10. So, I got my first fill of 2cc on May 21st, and really haven't noticed any difference. Until that is, this morning at 4 am while I was eating my lunch at work. I forgot to chew my piece of chicken enough, it was a little scary but I made it through. Does it take a couple of weeks to notice a fill or could this just of been because of the rainy/humid weather and Time of the morning?

    Where's everyone from?

I'm in Bradenton, FL. My son lives in Tallahassee, he just graduated from FSU.

    first fill tomorrow

I know exactly what your are saying. I am 6 1/2 weeks post op and got my first fill today. The doctor actually told me I probably wouldn't feel any restriction with the 2 cc he put in. I am on liquids until Thursday, don't feel any different yet. I am down 13 pounds from surgery and am ready for some serious weight loss too!
  13. Six weeks post surgery I am scheduled for my first fill tomorrow. I'm excited, but not sure what to expect after. I have no fill at this time and can eat anything I have tried. Including a Soft Pita, haven't tried bread because I haven't wanted it. I have been losing slowly, about 16 lbs since surgery April 5. It is tough trying to get in enough Protein eating what I am eating now. I know that I will get 2cc and go back every 2 weeks until I am in the green zone. What I don't know is what to expect. As far as I know I have no restriction right now but I know I am not as hungry as I used to be, that could just be the Water. How did you feel after your first fill?

    First fill tomorrow

Back from my fill appointment. Took about 5 minutes because the Dr had a hard time finding my port. No pain involved though. I was asked if I wanted a topical anesthesia, but I declined. I'm not sure why it would be needed. Dr Bunch was pushing on my stomach and had me change positions, but no discomfort or pain. He told me I probably wouldn't feel any restriction yet because it is only 2cc. I go back in 2 weeks for another 2cc.

I'm doing well. Going for my first fill appointment tomorrow 6 weeks post op. Since surgery lost 16 lb. but no problems eating. I cut down how much I was eating and I have been losing more. My life is now figuring out what I should eat, making sure I get enough Protein, constantly drinking Water and making sure I go to the gym. How are you doing?
  16. dmprem

    So bummed.

It is tough. This is what I was on. Your body gets used to eating less after 3 days and the growling in your stomach calms down. just make sure you have everything you need at hand so if you do get hungry you are not tempted to cheat. Willpower has to play a big part in it. How bad do you want it! Good luck to you!!

    Psych letter

I went to the Psych that my Dr recommended. I read my letter before they sent it in and it was very thorough. Basically telling of my past struggles with weight loss and how I handled them. My previous fitness levels and my mental stability through hard times.Stating that I understand that the surgery is a tool and not an end all to weight loss. My Dr states that they have patients read the Dr letter and Psych and Dietary letters so that if there are any discrepencies they will be caught prior to sending them in.

    Just curious

I will be 5 weeks post op on Friday. Since my 1 week post op appointment I have lost 6 lb. I think a total of 11 lb since surgery and 15 lbs during preop. Total of 26 lbs. First Fill visit is 5/21.
  19. I think this is the hardest thing to get used to. I am post op 3 weeks, still on mushies, but the MA at the office suggested I start getting used to the no drinking 1 hour before or after eating. I have no fill at this time, first one is May 21st. I am getting hungry now, but I believe there is some restriction because I don't want to eat my arm yet...my Dr. told me about post op week 5 I will want to do this.. ha ha... Anyway....my Doctor's restrictions are very conservative. I am following them, but I have a few questions. If you start choking, you have to drink water right? What if something is spicy? I'm not even on solid foods yet, but I am just wondering how all of you handled this part of the Lapband?
  20. dmprem

    restrictions?

Mine are no lifting, pulling or pushing more than 5 pounds until 6 weeks post op.
  21. dmprem

    First fill question

My Doctor doesn't give fills until 6 weeks post op. I go on May 21 and my surgery was April 3rd. I was on 2 weeks pre op liquids, 2 weeks post op liquids, and no I am on 2 week of mushies before I can start solid food. I'm pretty sure I will have no problem eating solids either, although I haven't tried. I have been hungry, but I drink Water when it isn't time to eat. I think I got used to eating very little prior to surgery so it has been easier for me now. Were you on a pre op diet? Good luck to you.
  22. Already discussed with surgeon. These are his guidelines. I'll talk to him again about it at my first fill. Thanks for the advice.

Congratulations! I love seeing these posts. I was banded 3 weeks ago and am in the beginning stages. No major weight loss yet but my Doctor tells me to be patient. I am still healing from surgery. I am down 23 lbs since pre op diet, mostly 16 from the pre op. I can't weight to start working out again. I want to work this band to the best of my ability!!!
