I have Cigna as my insurance. Went for my pre-op appt this afternoon and was down 3 lbs for 202 now. CAN'T wait for my surgery on the 29th. If you have a good surgeon who has a good 'team' working with him, they will help you navigate the insurance hurdles. I know the people at my surgeon's office were soooooo helpful!!! Best of luck! Keep us posted!

I'm 5'1 and was 194 when I started the process...now currently 201 as of today. Surgery is 1/29. My insurance said that since by BMI was below 40 I had to jump through their hoops but it wasn't that difficult at all. I did everything they requested...and was approved first time around so took me roughly 5 months. My insurance required one health issue I have due to my weight since I was under the 40 BMI. I have high blood pressure, borderline high cholesterol, pre diabetic, and mild depression. I probably have sleep apnea too but have never been tested. Don't give up! My surgeon had told me that if they had denied me he would have helped me appeal and would help me. Thankfully that wasn't necessary. Blessings,

    whey protien from walmart

I bought the Jillian Michaels protein powder from Walmart. It's not too bad. I do think I'm going to buy myself some of the UNJURY brand. I like that they have a chicken flavor one so you can add it to your broth!!!!

  7. Welcome! My surgery is 1/29th. If you're anything like me, you're super excited and this is about the only thing you can think about!!! So this forum is a great place to stay absorbed with it and find answers and encouragement. I can't believe how much I've learned from everyone in just a few days! My pre-op diet is similar to yours. Just one week of low fat, 1000 calories or less a day. So many on here have to do 2 wks of only liquids. Blessings!!!

    how to deal with judgement

I've received mixed reactions as well....but I have researched this to the point of exhaustion and it's my decision and my body. Like someone else mentioned, it's because they don't fully understand that makes them leary. I'm tired of people thinking I have to take the surgery route because my willpower isn't strong enough. Just trust your surgeon and your own decision making process, and go for it! My surgeon has mentioned he's reserved on banding young patients because they might not yet understand what it takes to lead a healthy lifestyle and make the necessary changes....but he said he will if they can show them they're committed and he said one of his biggest success stories since he's been doing it was just 21 or 22. He said this gal had come to him after several surgeons had turned her down, but he could tell she had the right mindset, and it sounds like you do too. Good luck!

    Day 3 of liquid Diet

Wow...my doctor only requires one week of a diet of 1000 calories or less! I'm wondering if I should just try to do that week as all liquids since so many of you had to!

Blondie, That's why I chose the lap band...because it's extremely safe. The complication rate is so minimal and even those complications aren't major, not death like gastric!!!!! Show her the research and maybe that will help ease her mind. My aunt is a nurse and she wholeheartedly endorses the lap band, but NOT gastric. She said she has seen so many patients die from gastric at her hospital but has seen nothing but great things from the band. Alicia
