I was on my DR.'s foods to avoid list, haven't had it since being banded.
-
Have you asked why you like to eat. A lot of us have food issues and need to deal with them, like the clean your plate club and if you're good you get a treat or dessert or bad if you eat something bad and then can't stop. I am trying to deal with all those issues while on this journey. It's never too late to start over just have your next meal be the healthy one. I agree with those who said to get all the tempting food out of your house and remember how you ate when you first got the band.

That's why I'm seeing a therapist during this journey. I need to work on my mind just as much as my body. Instead of living to eat , learning to eat to live.

I have a juicer, I make carrot, apple(from my tree), and other veggie or fruit juice but only put a little in my water or flavored waters. I also put the carrot fiber in other receipts.
-
I stay away from bread but eat wheat thin crackers with chicken, tuna, salmon salad or a small can of sardines with some fruit or veggies . Chicken chili or bean and bacon soup. Also I get 2 or 3 pre-made chicken or turkey meatballs put some spaghetti sauce and cheese then microwave (yummy) .

Restaurants - lap band portions?
sapcat54 replied to Dragonfly8a's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got the card for children's menu, haven't used it yet. Lots of the kid menus are junk food with hotdogs. mac and cheese and fries. I usually order fish or and sandwich without the bread and fruit or veggies. -
I just wanted to know who"s had their band the longest and how are they doing.

!3 weeks after being banded and I saw my primary care Dr and she had be do some blood work. I just checked the results and all my numbers are in the normal range. My glucose is down to normal, A1C is down from diabetic to just pre-diabetic a whole point and a half, cholesterol is normal. Having my clothes become loose and had to get a smaller size bra. Even though I'm in a plateau, I'm seeing big results!

That's the way my DR. dose my fills. They put in the fill then I drink ice cold water and tell them when I feel it go down or sitting there above my band.
-
Yes 13 weeks, My Dr hasn't called me yet, I'm still on meds but my numbers were still bad even on them. I hope she will start taking me off them soon.

Gummy Vitamins 1 week post op???
sapcat54 replied to lilmispcl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use a gummy multi I got a costco, also a children's gummy omegas. They are like a little treat. -
I used to be able to take a handful of pills(vitamins) at once now I take gummie vitamins and have to wait a few minutes between each pill to wait for it to go down. Also, I have to take my meds about 20 min. before bed otherwise it will just sit there dissolving above my band. I've had 1 fill so far.

The surgery itself is easy, you are asleep then wake up and it's over. The only thing is the blood work and IVs that can hurt . But if you have had any blood work done you know it's just the prick of the needles. You will be sore and tired for about a week and you will have pain at the incision especially where they put the port and gas pain in your shoulders from the CO2 they use during surgery. But you will have pain meds and GASX help a lot that first week. You will need to take it easy for about 6 weeks or your Dr.'s orders. Follow your Dr.'s orders in how and what you eat. Go to the classes your hospital has and read this site to see what to expect. Good luck

Three meals and one snack in the last evening (yogurt). I don't get hungry in between meals just trying to get all my water in.

We all have issues that drive us to overeat. It may have started out being trained to clean our plates and even forced to eat food we didn't like. "I'm a good girl for cleaning my plate or rebellion and eating everything we like when someone who's controlling you is not there. covering our bodies with fat to protect us from sexual abuse, loneliness, being bored, fear of not getting enough:love, attention, etc. There are lots of books that help deal with the food issues. I decided to see a therapist to get to the core of why I overate even though I did do some work on my own. I want this to be the last time I have to loose all this weight. I'm working on a list of my beliefs about food. It's interesting when making the list how it started off as I like the taste and it is a pleasure to a way to relax, punishment when I was a child also good and bad memories during life.

I have these weight loss hypnosis recordings and one of the messages is "You are not a trash can. When you eat more than you need you are treating your body as a trash can. It's OK to throw the food away." After listening to that for a few times I finally could leave food and not be in the "Clean Your Plate Club" After the band It's no problem.

Hope this isn't a crazy question...
sapcat54 replied to Froggy1125's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would go to the support groups at my hospital and almost everyone there were bypass patients. They were pressuring me to get the bypass. I just couldn't do that to my stomach and have to deal with all the dumping, not able to absorb all the nutrients and the long recovery. I had both knees replaces and know long recovery. I just wanted to get on with life and was ready for just the band to help me. Thank God for the support here . Good luck with your decision. -
I like to put it in yogurt . You can sprinkle it on 1/2 a banana for a treat.

Temperature Control Issues
sapcat54 replied to shazini's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband laughs at me covering up with a blanket when he's in shorts and tee-shirt. I also had both knees replaced and the metal gets my legs cold too. -
Has anyone flipped their port?
sapcat54 replied to bandedally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was sideways when I went in for my first fill. The PA had to press on it to be able to reach the front. I was numbed for the shot so i didn't feel it too bad until later and the next day the whole area was bruised. I still feel some discomfort when I bent too far down. -
My first seminar was August 23, then I had to see the psychologist then had a complete cardiac workup and pre-op stuff.I finally had the surgery January 7. My primary care doctor was amazed how fast I got cleared. I could have had the surgery in December except for waiting for appointments for all the requirements.

There are times you need to surrender to the process. I used to think the weeks before "is this the last time I get to eat________." But after the Band I don't care If I have that food. I eat my protien and a vegetable or fruit and can't even finish that. The weightloss is a reward in of itself. We all were scared of what lies ahead but still moved foreward in the process. Take the time to question what you really are afraid of, not eating enough, the sweets, really changing and seeing what life is going to be like thin and still have to deal with those issues that the eating covers up. My prayers are with you. You are worth the change and stop thinking about being bad or good. If you fall just get back up and start over. Give yourself some grace.

It is great to feel lighter and be loosing more than 20 lbs then stop. I actually walked in a mall this week. It's been 4 years since I could walk in a mall after having both my knees replaced. If I feel like this now imagine what the next 37 lbs will do. I don't finish even a small bowl of food and don't eat snacks between meals, I don't even think about food as much. Thank God for the Band.

Double check with your Dr. about the 6 weeks before solids. One of the nurses at my Dr's office accidently gave me the bypass eating plan instead of the Band. When I called to double check they told me it was 1/1 weeks liquids/mushie/solids, not the 3weeks of each. I had both shrip and lobster. Just chew, chew , chew.

Gas-x, heating pad, Soups, a good blender, Protein drinks- Preimer Protien form costco, I eat alot out of papercups and bowls heips in portion control, Water bottles, decaff tea, coffee, sugerfree flavored drinks and powders. I hope this helps. Also the first week is the worst but each days gets better. Watching the scale drop is a great reward. But during your healing the weight might be slow at first but you will see results it you follow the DR's orders. Good Luck and God Bless
