I am reading a lot of stuff about the pre-op diet. I have met with a nutritionist a couple of times but haven't been advised of a specific diet I need to follow. My next and last visit with my doctor before surgery on the 16th is the 8th. I guess I will be advised of anything then. Meanwhile I have been eating horribly because I feel like it is my last chance to eat all of the foods that I "love." It is those foods that got me this way though, so I really hope this is my farewell party.

No artificial sweeteners...suggestions?
tjmiller posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy New Year! I will be getting my Lapband in two weeks and am both excited and apprehensive. I am concerned about the liquid diet the first couple of weeks. A lot of the suggestions are for sugar free jello, etc. I don't tolerate artificial sweeteners and am wondering if anyone has suggestions on liquids that were tolerated during this stage in addition to broth. -

I had my pre-op appointment today and I start my liquid diet tomorrow. I also paid the money I am responsible for after insurance. Thank goodness for FSA accounts. (The doc is nice and is giving me a pass to eat a regular dinner tomorrow night with my family for my birthday). I thought I would dread starting the liquid diet, but I went so overboard indulging myself over the last week or so that I feel like I got it out of my system. Or I may just be excited about starting the liquid diet because that makes everything more "real." I cannot wait for next Wednesday. I don't know about other doctor's offices, but mine carries and sells protein shakes, vitamins, etc. It is kind of nice to be able to grab them there until I have explored all available options on my own. -

Pre-op appointment tomorrow, birthday Wednesday and get banded next week. Busy but excited. I can't wait to be among those "on the other side." -
I watched the show too. Those people are far from doing it on their own. They are away from their lives and responsibilities and in the gym five hours a day. I am getting banded in less than two weeks so I'll see how I compare to the biggest losers by the end of the season ???‰

Why people and studies are so negative about lapband
tjmiller replied to alicelopes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The only reason insurance companies even cover the procedure is because it is cost effective. They are after all in business not to loose money. The Lapband has been proven to help individuals loose weight and therefore prevent many other weight related illnesses down the line. -
Spanx are great and durable. I always get mine a size or two bigger than what I normally wear. They still do the job but I don't feel suffocated.

Thanks to double coupons and Harris Teeter, I stocked up on a bunch of multi-vitamins and Protein Shakes. I am so looking forward to the 16th!

Keep us posted on what you like...I have a difficult problem forcing myself to eat or drink things I don't really like. Does the instant breakfast have a lot of protein? -

I just went through the same thing with my sister. Once she understood how much she was hurting me by not just supporting me she is much more supportive. It took spelling it out to her though. She has never struggled with her weight. -
I got "Living with the Band" by Victoria Ashton for my Kindle. It is her story and not an all about the band book. I find it nice to read of a struggle I can sympathize with. I haven't read the whole book but so far I really like it. I think it was $5.99

Why all this noise??
tjmiller replied to Back2Petite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all... The thing I love best about this group is learning ahead of time about the reality of what to expect. (16th of this month is my date). As GI Joe said... Knowing is half the battle. -

I am doing the same thing but my pre-op appointment is next week so I will have to stop this soon. I feel like I have gained 10 pounds in the last week alone. -
Does anyone else worry they will fail with the band?
tjmiller replied to dolphintattoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel the same way. I feel like this is my last chance and am so scared I am going to be the one who can't do it. I have a love affair with food and I am worried I won't find the comfort it gives me anywhere else. -
Praying that everything went well for you today. Congratulations!

January 16...haven't been told of pre-op diet
tjmiller replied to tjmiller's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Glad to hear that, I was starting to feel like everyone has more willpower than I do. I am really praying that I can make the lifestyle changes I need to in order to make this work. -
No artificial sweeteners...suggestions?

I haven't tried it either... Are there any food products that are made with it as a sweetener or is it just a product you add to foods yourself? -
Thank goodness for soft foods!!!

That is what I am afraid of...going crazy... Were you satisfied after a smallish amount of food? -

Thank you so much...I am actually excited about the Edy's bars. I have had them before and they are good. I was also thinking that I like the taste of cup of soup if I drained out all of the "stuff." I am just so afraid that I am going to be starving. I am really praying that my body and brain feel full after the appropriate amount of food.
