I have an appt next week with a surgeon to discuss revision surgery- the removal of my lap band and revision to gastric bypass. I have Anthem BC/BS and I was wondering if anyone was aware of anything I should say or point out or discuss that may help my chances with getting approved? Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Thanks so much, I'll make sure to advocate for myself I'm worried about them saying the revision isn't "medically necessary" bc my band hasn't slipped or anything. I've gained almost all my weight back and I'm always throwing up. What was your situation? Also, are they going to remove the band and perform bypass at the same time? Thanks so much for your help!

I'm five years post op and have yet to find a yummy (or at least tolerable) strawberry or chocolate protein powder. I'm looking for something I can just mix with milk and have for breakfast. Any suggestions?

Ah, meat and potatoes. I'm a country girl (from Kentucky) and I TOTALLY understand how you feel. I was banded in 2008... About a week before Thanksgiving! There will be times when you feel like crying, but I promise once you start seeing a difference and you start feeling better you'll realize it's totally worth all the emotional baggage these bands come with. Also, my family started eating healthier at get togethers once they learned what I can/ can't eat because they would always have options available for me. Also, once you can eat solids again you'll still be able to enjoy your mama's cookin- may just need to alter what you eat. Like instead of a big ol burger in on a bun with all the toppings, I'll eat half a burger (or less depending on your band) without the bun. It's all about small portions. But don't get down- the first couple months is a learning period and you have to figure your own body out. By the way, my first emotional breakdown was bc I got sick after eating a cheese omelette

I am 4 years post op... I lost 120 pounds and then I began having issues with acid reflux, throwing up, and gaining weight. I gained about 40 pounds over two years. Now I have a new doctor and rather than the common "half cup" portion size, my doctor has told me I need to get used to having about the volume of a golf ball. That seems like a huge difference! I know everyone is different, but I'm curious if anyone else has been told such a small amount? Thanks a ton

Sorry I didn't tell the whole story... He took out almost all my fluid for about a month and I gained the last ten that made 40 lbs... I had an upper GI and an Endoscopy and now finally I had a tiny bit put in yesterday. So now he's telling me about the golf ball size portions.

You will probably be on a liquid diet for at least 24 hours (my doctor recommends 3 days) but my old doctor was just 24 hours. Right after your fill, your doctor will probably have you sip on water to make sure you're able to keep the water own without any problems.
