    unexpected news

I was hoping for the same Arlene...but 80 lbs down and no change..in fact, the pain was worse. which was why I gave up and went to the surgeon. After looking at my xrays and MRI, he was surprised that I could walk at all. I'm shot full of cortisone right now so I'm feeling much better but I know it's just masking the pain, and is a stop gap measure only.

    unexpected news

you bet. appointment for second opinion made this afternoon. Both surgeons are heads of their ortho departments at two different hospitals so I know I'm at least dealing with the best.

  6. Good luck my dear. Thanks for sharing..it makes me feel better to know that I'm not the only one with saggy breasts, arms, tummy. I plan on doing plastic surgery as well once I am at goal and my weight is stable for a while.

No fills for 3 month postop

sounds like you are doing really well. I was banded in January and have not had even one fill as I am also not hungry between means and can eat band sized portions and stay satiated. You may be one of the lucky ones. Also...I'm also doing great with the weight loss. 80 lbs including the preop diet.

    last night's Night Line! OMG!

it also shows how desperate people are to lose weight. And of course all these people will gain it back. I suspect they do this for short term results, not as a lifestyle change.

pre op liquid diet gone bad

I don't mean to be contrary skb but your preop diet was per your surgeon and not angels. He had her do a longer preop diet for a reason. Maybe higher BMI, maybe this is simply his protocol. She needed to follow her doctor's rules. Also...this is still a money making venture for the doctor and I wouldn't presume he always has the patient's best interests in mind. It's no skin off his nose if the surgery does not get done. And then poor angel is stuck having to save up all that money again. angel...really think about this, speak honestly with the surgeon and do what is best for you.

pre op liquid diet gone bad

As I posted on your other thread, ask about rescheduling and follow the diet this time to assure you get banded. I agree it would be terrible for you to wake up without the band...especially as you are self pay.

    need some input

Unfortunately we can't help you with this as no one can control what you do except you. The damage may already have been done. Be honest with your surgeon, explain what you did by not following the diet and see if he will reschedule the surgery so you get another opportunity to follow the diet this time and be successful. This is a better option than him opening you up and not placing the band. Good luck to you..hope all goes well.

    Afraid of failure!

You sound very motivated. And those who are motivated do well. Here's my experience. I used to be hungry all the time...starving actually though that's ridiculous considering how much I stuffed myself. Now, I get hungry but not ravenous. And by the time I finish my band sized portion, I feel satisfied...not full. Full no longer exists. What you should hope to feel is satiety. With that satiety comes the control to not overeat or chose the wrong foods. I've been banded since mid January, and have lost 80 lbs so far. I have another 40 to go but have no doubts that I will make that goal. Good luck to you...I am confident you will not fail.

    Not perfect yet, but...

you look absolutely stunning...have a wonderful time.
  14. what you are going through is perfectly normal. the unknown is always stressful and this is really unknown territory for us folks who are used to eating until stuffed and not paying attention to bites, eating slower, etc. just know that you will get used to it all and hopefully find it to be second nature at some point. good luck and keep us posted on your journey.

    oldest leaving for college

well....I did a happy dance....LOL! Not trying to dismiss your feelings, I know lots and lots of people who had a hard time with the chick leaving the nest. I just had a different reaction. Oh and so you know, that college kid is now 31, married, two kids, and living just about 25 miles away from me. We talk and email regularly and I see him and my daughter-in-law and their girls every couple of months. So don't worry mama...if the two of you are close, you will be close no matter what. Hang in there and good luck.
  19. why don't you consider going to Disney and getting banded after. this way, no post op worries. it's just a couple more weeks.
  20. OK everyone, sing with me... Happy Birthday to me, Happy Birthday to me, I've lost 80 lbs as of today, Happy Birthday to me!!

    Expecting Lap Band removal

Sorry you are having issues. Whatever the outcome, I hope you find relief and feel better.
  22. oh, and I see on your tracker that you've lost 57 lbs. that's terrific! go to the supermarket and put three 20 lb. bags of dogfood into your cart and realize that's how much you have already lost. it's quite an accomplishment..
  23. while 300 lbs. is daunting, many of us have had to lose daunting amounts. I had to lose about 120 lbs. and I am 2/3 of the way there having lost 80 lbs. as of today. remember...it's a number and I see no reason why you can't lose as successfully as anyone else who follows the rules. good luck and keep us posted.
