    Crude comments

Were you being chastised for getting WLS? If that's what her remark was about, oh hell, I'd have looked her dead in the eye and said, 'well then, you stay fat and this skinny bitch will dance on your grave.' I bet that would have shut her up.

    Hello Lap Banders!

Welcome! Sorry to hear of all your challenges but truth be told, we cn come up with a million reasons for not doing what needs to be done when it comes to our weight management. There are lots of folks on this site dealing with all kinds of crap but they are staying the course and losing or maintaining. You will get lots of support here so feel free to post. Good luck with your WL journey.
  5. I know you're concerned because this is all new but not to worry..you really don't feel much of anything. Just remember to sip right now as your insides likely are swollen. Don't get on the scale...you may have gained weight because of the swelling and you don't want to focus on that now anyway. If you feel hungry, you likely are. It's better to be hungry than to feel sick so I think you're ahead of the game. Remember to follow the doctor's instructions, don't try to test the band..not now, and not ever...and you will do fine. Congrats on your surgery!

What to eat from Chinese reataurant?

Some bandsters say broccoli is hard to eat so maybe chicken with string beans or chinese veggies like bean sprouts, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots instead. Maybe these are easier to eat. From a 'healthy' perspective, you know this...stay away from fried stuff and alot of sauces. No matter what you eat, just know the sodium content is high so don't be surprised if the scale shows that. As Tara said, it's a lifestyle so anything in moderation won't trip you up. Enjoy!
  7. Yup...that's what my tummy looks like. If I can avoid the knee replacement for a while, I think I will also see a plastic surgeon and discuss a face lift, boobs, and tummy tuck for next year. The arms and legs are also loose but it's too expensive and invasive to do it all at the same time. Not even sure if that's possible.

    Weight loss first week

Enjoy it Wendy..it won't last. Just know that if you think in terms of one pound at a time, one day at a time, you will see those big numbers eventually. The only time I lost alot was the pre-op diet. I dropped 17 lbs. in those two weeks. After that, it came off slow and steady and here I am, almost 13 months post op and down a staggering 109 lbs. You are a year behind me and there's no reason you can't be just as successful a year from now.

    For people in the greenzone

Some people are like that...they are fine until one bite too much and it's awful after that. Just know that it's not the same for everyone. I never let myself get to that point..I get signals earlier than that...and I listen to them. I don't eat by the cupful exactly. I have 3 oz. of protein, 1/2 cup veggies, 1/4 cup carbs. I weigh and measure my food at home, but can eyeball pretty well when I'm out for a meal. Again...don't assume it's like a brick wall. Pay close attention to the band, and to your hunger. Stop when you are not hungry..not when you are full. Good luck on your journey!

    In my way

    Congrats Tim. Exciting times ahead!
  11. I have the band and lost 109 lbs and still losing. You can be as successful as you want.
  12. Wishing you all the best Donna. I understand chronic pain...was on all of that stuff as well...Tramadol, Percocet, Oxycodone... I had to have both hips replaced because of osteo-necrosis and the rheumatologist feels it also is autoimmune based though he cannot diagnose the exact type of disease. I will need both knees replaced at some point and now I have to get xrays and MRIs for all my major joints to monitor them in the hopes that I don't get as bad as I was. As others have said, please keep in touch with us so we can help you with your journey no matter where it takes you.

How Do You Beat the Cold?

Like Alex, I'm also in NYC and what a difference between this year and last year. I've no insulation anymore being down more than 100 lbs. I'm wearing layers, sweaters, sweatshirts/sweatpants. Also...sleeping under a comforter in flannel nightgowns. Lastly, I'm drinking alot more coffee as well...moreso to warm up than to wake up.

    Share Your NSVs Here Please!

Tried on a short black faux leather jacket yesterday. Sleeves were too long but otherwise, it fit great. Decided not to buy it, but I couldn't stop staring at myself in the mirror....
  17. I wonder if this might change as the baby boomers who are experiencing these terrible end of life scenarios for their parents ultimately become like their parents. If at 50 or 60ish, you see what the folks are going thru, would you likely look to make sure this doesn't happen to you? I don't know if this means making sure someone will follow your wishes, or if we start to legislate ways to end life before the quality is all gone. Interesting topic but so sorry it's happening to you personally Arlene.

What's your favorite go to snacks?

When I want a little something I have a wedge of 35 calorie cheese on a couple of lo fat crackers. It's only around 100 cals and quite filling.

    Can Anyone Else Identify?

I watch the calorie count, and try to avoid too much sodium and sugar as well. I used to track everything but just over a year out at this point, I know what I can/can't eat and usually how much as well. I understand your fear of backsliding into bad habits again...I feel the same way. All I can do is face the day each day with as positive an attitude as possible and focus on how much better I look and feel and hope that the feeling carries me through the rough Patches. Good luck to us both...and here's hoping we will be as successful in maintaining as we are with losing.

    yeah

You're doing fine. Typical weight loss is 1-2 lbs. a week. And if you are hungry and not satisfied on small amounts of food, that is when you should discuss fills with your doctor. I've lost 107 lbs. with no fills. I feel satiety on no more than 1,200 calories a day..and have from almost the beginning. Focus on how you feel, not how much weight you've lost. Good luck!
  21. All I can tell you Curvy is that I went to the seminar in June of 2012, and was approved in September. Made the appointments with the other doctors to confirm no psychological issues, no heart issues, etc. Got the date for late October...and then Sandy hit. NYU was affected terribly and I had to wait till January of 2013 for the hospital to be performing surgeries again. So...just know that anything can trip you up...even with the best laid plans. Can I ask...what is the dire hurry? Many bandsters or other WLS patients can wait a year or more just to get a date. There can be more to getting approved than just documenting the weight loss attempt. If the doctors find an issue with anything potentially being a risk they didn't take into account, you may see a delay.
  22. I had my surgery at NYU and have cigna. Couldn't get around the documentation required. It was three months under a doctor supervised WL attempt.
  23. Here's the link to the thread with the details and you can see who's coming as well. Let me know if you have any trouble finding it. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/295421-new-york-city-and-surrounding-suburbs-meet-and-greet/#entry3337045
  24. Realistic expectations my dear... you're doing well so far.

    Weight Watchers

I do ww from a common sense perspective. I don't do points... I just do the basics... 3oz protein 1/2 cup vegetable and 1/4 cup carbs. I stay around 1200 cals daily and that's it.
