reflux, lapband, and Sertraline (zoloft) issues
ATX-Tess replied to YankeesFan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know this old - but it showed up when I was searching tonight. I really thought I was insane or doing something wrong. I always take mine in a spoonful of peanut butter and some nights it's just not enough pub or I am in a hurry and then a volcano simmers. And HURTS. But mainly thx for this thread - I will go find something more current for tips and whatnot! -
I just got my band yesterday morning. Spending yesterday and today trying to get rid of this hideous gas! I've been walking and taking Gas-X and it is so much better today than yesterday. Coming out of the anesthesia thus far has been the worst, but I am super excited about this journey. Not eating a whole lot right now for obvious reasons, but so far, the best thing for me has been sugar free popsicles. Have eaten a little Soup, but not a whole lot. Just wanted to share and officially declare my December Bandster membership! Anyone care to share their challeneges in the first few weeks??

So great to hear these stories!!! I am back in the 260s and it has been at least 4yrs since I've been there. Just losing this first 26 lbs has been amazing. I can go up stairs without my knees hurting and my blood pressure which I'd never had a problem with is back to 118/78ish. It had started to creep in the 130/80s range at my heaviest. I need to do a better job of working out as I know that will make this journey an even better success but so far I am loving my life and looking forward to the rest of this journey. Starting size - squeezing into 24s - now 24s falling off!!! -

Congrats to you on your hard work and wonderful results! Thank you for being brave and posting your pics!!! Love the smile you have on your face from your today pic -
I was eating mushies/semi solid 10 days after. Regular food and really watching it through my first fill which was just Wednesday of this week. I only had 1.8cc in my band from surgery, so now I am at 3.8cc. I can tell a difference, but i still think I will need more. Let me just tell you gals - I had a serious "stuck" food episode today. My work provides lunch two times a week and today was sandwiches with lots of lettuce. We were in a group meeting and I just wasn't thinking and took 2 fairly small bites, but did NOT chew well enough. OMG. I hope I never do that again. I had to get up and leave via the back and go to the restroom. I now know what they mean about the sliming!!!! AND it wouldn't stop. PAINFUL. SO - Dec Bandsters - always eat small bites!

I had my first fill today! Nothing to be scared about I was pretty happy because I have been able to eat more than I should but am still 17lbs from surgery! Just that bit of weight has made a huge difference in my blood pressure and being able to go up stairs! My BP has never been high - had just started to creep up to 130s/90s -back down to my normal 120s/80s but am amazed to see how much of a difference it makes!!!

I have been starving lately!!!!!! I have been making a lot of smoothies with the Atkins shakes and putting yogurt in ( chobani) or Peanut Butter in the chocolate. I track everything in my fitness pal and just try to stay at 1000-1200 calories. And this weekend started to do Just Dance 4 as my exercise . I've been eating pretty mushy food but have also eaten a piece or two of pizza. I just track it. I definitely cannot eat as much as I once could and just try to take is slow and chew chew chew chew. I figure it will get better when I get my first fill which is next week. Until then I am not going to beat myself up (because I have done that enough in my life). This might be the wrong tactic and I know I need to get more Protein in but I am just going to keep working on it! I also and just cooking for my family and just eating smaller portions. Has lasagna "cupcakes" for dinner - emilybite.com and making chicken casserole tonight. These things last a whole lot longer now!!!!'

brannewmee - For me, I definitely cannot eat as much as i used to for sure and I am still losing each day (very incremental at this point (.5 or less a day, but still downward). It is just that it is easier to eat more than a cup of food, particularly with "mushies." So I would just be prepared at the end of week 2/beginning of week 3 that you might have to deal with that. Hopefully you won't! My doc did say that the 2nd and 3rd weeks are a little more like traditional dieting, so you just have to know that and know that it will get easier to not feel hungry once you get to the green zone. The plan they have me on is to eat much smaller meals than 1 cup and more frequently. However, I let myself get too hungry last night and could have made better choices. I have had my first post-op where they check incisions, etc. and my next appt is next week to check the Fluid in the band and refill it. I just have to keep reminding myself that I paid a lot of money for this to work (insurance covered at least half, but i was self pay for the rest) so I don't want to blow it!! You'd think that would go without saying....

I know that I need to make sure to use my band as a tool and I am learning, and taking it slow. I was banded on 12/28 and have just this week been fighting the hunger. I've eaten a little more than I think I am supposed to and have been freaked out that I messed something up. So I am glad to have stumbled on this post. I know it's not a free pass or anything, and I am glad to know about the "tune-up" for maintaining when I reach goal weight!

Oh my - I am finally feeling so much better. I think that the gas is almost gone and feel like anesthesia is finally out of my system. Have been drinking Atkins shakes today. One with peanut butter and a little vanilla this morning and tonight having one with fresh strawberries!! Yum!!
