I wondered about this also. Thanks for asking! -
Pressured To Get Gastric Bypass Instead Of Lapband (Dr. Monash)
foodfriend replied to Autumn2013's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
This is a very interesting topic to me, as I am wanting the lap band done. My husband had the gastric bypass. He has lost an extreme amount of weight, with little problems. I think seeing all the information as we do (he never joined a support group, or web group) can be a little scary--don't get me wrong, information is a good thing, it can just be a little frightening at times--I try to keep a focus on the good results people have, and hope that I'm one of those! I think the topic of sweets is interesting as he will eat just a little now and then with no problem. Best wishes for your final decision. -
Very inspiring! I hope to brag someday.

fifties and pre-op surgery support
foodfriend replied to hopeful one's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello everyone! I'm going to be fifty in a few weeks. WIll be having surgery in the early summer I believe. My hubby had the route n y bariatric surgery and lost a whole person. I wanted to go for the less extreme and not have to travel to the big city for appointments. I understand the sense of loss I will experience when I have the surgery--I remember my husbands sad face as he sat down in a restaurant with me the second-sixth month. Now though he is happy and healthy--I call him the Shar pae butt, as things are really saggy (I'm prepared for this--we can be saggy together now!). I'm glad to hear that the hair loss should be temporary, that is a good thing. I do have a friend who wears wigs and you couldn't even tell, they look beautiful on her, so I can do that too (except I have a really big head, hope they have my size . I look forward to hearing your stories and helping each other hold up through the trials. Best of luck and loss! -

Be Honest- Is Banded Life Hard?
foodfriend replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think this is the most interesting post I've read, and I do enjoy hearing all sides. I am still in my 6 month meeting stage and have gone to at least 3 meetings (+psych mtg for insurance) so far, I'm thinking my surgery would be in May or June?. I think the newest information that scares me (but I'm still going through with it) is loss of hair, loss of gall bladder (I had no idea of that one). Does everyone really lose their gall bladder??? I just got over learning that the port will be sown on the muscle (for some reason I didn't think of that). My husband received the route n y gastric bypass and has lost 160 pounds (with gall bladder in tact). BUT I didn't want to go through that serious of a surgery, but wonder if it really is that more drastic than this? Thanks for all of the information! -
Hello Becca, I haven't had my surgery yet and I am too a migraine sufferer. It does worry me somewhat, wondering if the migraines could get worse during all this? Could you try just a little bit of honey for your sweetener? Getting used to just a little, might help? Keep me updated on how your doing. I'm new to this site, so hopefully I'll find ya again.

Did you have the hernia repaired? I haven't been thru surgery yet, but will have to have the hernia done at same time, I'm a little worried about having both done at once. Best of luck to you, I'd like to know how you're doing later
