10 months--reached goal
feelinggood replied to Atgoal's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
congratulations! -
Spent the last couple of days reading through posts from here, fb, oh, tt, etc.. Why is it that some people on social media sites are so sensitive about other people's comments? Just some examples: I thought this was a support site, why are you being so mean? I don't like this group because someone was cursing. I was just asking if it was ok to have a cocktail and eat a pizza at 2 weeks out, why is everyone being so negative? I don't mean to be insensitive but this just drives me batty! It's not like we are one big happy family. And if we were, family can say a lot worse things then what I've read on these sites. Ok that's it. Feel better now.

(laughing) I do wish that when people post they put how long they've been banded. Fair or not, I would struggle taking advice from anyone with minimal life experience w/ the band. I always warn people to focus on WHO is giving the advice just as much as the advice being given. I'm laughing at this too. Only 10 months here and consider myself a newbie even after reaching goal and a revision under my belt. At a couple months out I thought I knew everything and was giving out advice right and left. I can only hope the people receiving it didn't take it as gospel. Live and learn!

honestly i prefer the know it alls that really don't care what others think then the poor me needy people. guess i still have some ranting left in me, lol!
-
usually before but it depends on what it is. it might be a food that needs to be cooked first like squash is hard so needs to be cooked before mushing. did you have something in mind?

If food is going through easily then my opinion is it's not sitting in the pouch long enough to cause any stretching. But that is just my opinion.

Band removed (what diet should i try)
feelinggood replied to polly2107's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You are right back where you started before you had the band. It's HARD to be disciplined without the help of the band. Best thing is to try to stick with the band diet. 1/2 to 1 c of food at meals, protein first, good veggies next. Lots of fluids. Get some counseling, exercise, find an outlet. Good luck! -
What not to say to somebody who is getting a band...
feelinggood replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in Rants & Raves
i had to laugh at all the posts here cause can relate so much to many of them. dad is the weight police, mom still trying to shove food down me cause she misses her eating partner, sister still in competition and has turned to bulimia to catch up, other sister is awesome and sends me a shipment of new clothes at least once a month (i'm like her new dress up doll, lol!). -
Glad to hear you are feeling better. Sometimes it's just something small that can be easily taken care of. Always contact doctor whenever in doubt!

What ifood is good and bad to eat after lapband,
feelinggood replied to Yadiordz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep this is a life long adventure so depriving yourself of something you want won't last long. It's all about portions but be careful with them because higher calorie food is what caused our weight to get out of control. -
you can have soup but should be strained of anything else in it.
-
Hopefully your doctor has an after hours number you can call if you need to. In the mean time... Your episode very likely caused some swelling around the band area so just take it very easy tonight. Warm tea with honey or chicken broth and tiny sips. Hope you feel better!

Wow CG I am always amazed at how some people have the balls to sit in judgment. I just want to puke all over them, take a picture, put it on their facebook then sit back and watch everyone cheer! That pedestal this person has put herself on has a crack and she will fall through it one day. Take good care!

x not worth it.

Surgery is this week and I have lots of questions
feelinggood replied to NervousNancy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The band is a life long commitment that you must be prepared for psychologically. Many people do have the symptoms you wrote about but there are a hundred times or more of those that don't. You are the one that will be in control of how you eat once banded. Follow the guidelines and you should be fine. Good luck! -
seeking opinions/first appt nov 4th
feelinggood replied to britt2415's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As with any of the weight loss surgeries, complications can and do happen. I agree with the others that you should take as much time as you need to research all of them and make an informed decision. Have questions prepared for your appointment and if you are not comfortable with the answers or the surgeon get a second opinion. The band is not an easy road by any means. Your head has to be in the right place and you must follow the band guidelines you will get from your surgeon. If you have any doubts, ask questions! I lost 100 lbs and made my goal in 8/9 months and am very happy with the results, however, I am one of the small percentage of people who had complications. Just 10 days ago, I had revision surgery to another band because my original slipped up onto my esophagus and had major scarring. I will tell you though that I was banded in Mexico with the old 4cc band, which is notorious for this very type of problem. The reason I am telling you this is not to scare you but to stress the importance of letting your doctor know if you sense anything at all doesn't seem right with your band. Good luck to you! -
Thank you Missy. There are bound to be many others like me who become defensive of the 4cc band and surgery in Mexico. Thinking back I don't know what could have persuaded me to just wait it out and have the surgery done here. Don't ever stop trying. If you can even prevent 1 person from going, you have done well. Dr. Kuri's patient advocate called me this afternoon to see how I was doing and apologized for the doctor's behavior. It's been quite a week. To those that asked about whether I ever vomited and the answer to that question is Yes. I spent more days on liquids then solids because of it. So it is likely the combination of the vomiting and the way it was stitched both contributed to the slippage. I never had much fill in the entire 9 months and more often then not, Fluid was being removed within a day or 2 of a fill. I am anxious to speak with my surgeon to get the whole picture because when he talked to me in recovery I was pretty out of it. My mom is the one who told me what he said about it being a mess and something not right about how it was stitched.
-
Thank you Sharpie. I have a new 14cc band now and am hoping for the best. I even asked if I could send him the postop report and his response was don't bother. I went into the Mexico route fully aware of the potential complications. But I never thought the problems I was having was directly related to how the surgeon placed the band. I had heard good things about Dr. Kuri and he has placed thousands of bands with great success. We live and learn.
-
Surgeon said it had something to do with the way it was stitched originally.
-
I was never able to tolerate more than 1.5cc and steadily had to back off from there down to a total empty then surgery.
