I used to be able to eat popcorn with no problems at all but over the last month it is causing me huge issues. The last time I ate popcorn it sat above the band for days and caused severe swelling to the point I couldn't keep anything down. I had .5cc saline removed and doctor told me stay on liquids until I felt better. It took 5 days before I could start on mushies. I love popcorn but for now it is on my no no list.

debting about a fill or not
feelinggood replied to tonya49's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eating out a lot for me always causes weight gain or no loss even though I am careful with my selections. Restaurants add a lot of salt, butter, oils and who knows what else to make the food taste really good and there is a tendency to eat just a little more of it then I would if eating at home. You might try checking out menus online to you know in advance what you are going to order along with the calories and nutritional value. At least you will know how much you are really consuming. If you are having problems with portion control you can try eating no more than the size of your fist and see if you are satisfied for 3 to 4 hours. If you find you are hungry still or snacking in between you might need a little tweak of a fill. Good luck! -
my doctor won't give fills less than 4 weeks apart. every week sounds very aggressive and could be dangerous. please be careful and if you ever starting not being able to keep things down then time to back off.

My hair starting falling out around 4 months too. I know a lot of people swear by the biotin but I was told it really wasn't going to help much since the hair follicles were already at the cycle to fall out. Mine is starting to grow back after 3 months of falling out so just keep up on eating your protein and you could try using this shampoo and conditioner. http://www.target.com/p/organix-thick-full-biotin-collagen-shampoo-13oz/-/A-14462805?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=%7C14462805&CPNG=Health+Beauty&kpid=14462805&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=14462805&gclid=COiH9Z-6irkCFcef4Aod4yoA9g

Overheard conversation regarding WLS
feelinggood replied to Shazam's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
no point in saying anything. there are people that are just negative gossips and will find anything to be negative about. that just happened to be the topic of the day. tomorrow the same person will be critical of someone and something else. -
my experience in mexico. driver picked me up at airport and took me to dr. office which was attached to the hospital. driver will also take you to hotel but i didn't stay that long. you don't have to walk anywhere unless you just want to. there were 3 other girls that were picked up along with me. i didn't have any problems finding a local bariatric to do my fills. n fact there were at least 3 that would do it but i picked the one that a friend of my goes to.

Are there any 50 to 60 year old out there
feelinggood replied to dmh102's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi i am 55 and banded jan 2013. down 85 lbs and don't feel my age has hindered my weight loss. though i have had several fills and unfills and can't seem to get to the green zone. in fact i had .5 cc removed a couple months ago and .2cc put back in last month. some days i can eat and others i have problems. was at er this morning because was aspirating through the night and couldn't get fluids down so got 2 bags of iv fluids. going to see bariatric doc tomorrow and ask to have some more fluid removed. i still have 15 pounds to reach my goal and getting very worried i am starting to have complications. -
Wow you look like a different person. Beautiful!

This is an event in our lives where the true friends rise and the frauds show their colors. I feel so fortunate to have 2 lifelong friends who will go out of their way to make sure my food needs are accommodated whether it's a night out or food in. This is a good time to weed the riff-raff out of your life!

Looks like we are pretty split on telling or not telling. I am one that tells. Pre-band it was just my ex-h, sister, dad, son, and friend from work. Then my sister told my mom who was hurt that I didn't tell her and the only reason I didn't tell her was because she is a know-it-all and would have tried to take over every aspect of research, doctor selection, etc. Then my other sister came in town and my dad told her she then in turn told the aunts and cousins. She is quite the gossip and had everyone talking behind my back, which I ignored. The same sister is the competitive type and decided to go on a diet the same day as my banding and thinks she is in some kind of race with me but she has unfortunately turned to bulimia as her tool just to keep up with me - very sad! Anyway I digress... My workplace all knows now as since I have dropped the weight they compliment and I always tell them about the lapband. There were a couple people who were very concerned because they thought I had some type of illness and were relieved to know the truth. They are the greatest supportive group I could ever ask for. Aside from that, my dad is the weight police and says pretty stupid things sometimes but I realize he means well but he really doesn't like fat people in general. I don't even know where I was going with all this, lol. Just my input on to tell or not to tell. Cheers!

Heartburn...I don't think I'm too tight?
feelinggood replied to Veronica.N's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
it's possible you have developed a hiatal hernia that could be causing the heartburn. it's worth checking into. you may need a ppi to relieve the symptoms. -
It's very possible you need a fill. Some doctors, like mine, make you wait 4 weeks between fills. You didn't say whether you had a fill at your 6 week check up. If you didn't you might call your doctor and ask if you can schedule to come in for one sooner than Sept.

I was open about my surgery so virtually all my co-workers know. They have been more supportive then I could have even imagined. It also helps that another of my co-worker was sleeved not long after I was banded and we have become great friends and supporters of each other.

Hi poppyken. PB and vomiting can happen if you eat too big a bite, eat too fast, don't chew well, or the band is too tight. They should be the exception rather than a common occurrence. If you are eating according to your doctor's instructions and able to be satisfied for 3 or 4 hours after meals then you are good to go! Be thankful you have not had pb or vomiting as they are not good feelings and can be quite scary. My surgeon told me I should be able to eat any and all food as long as I take small bites and chew well. I personally don't have any problems with Pasta or rice. I haven't eaten bread since being banded as I prefer eating most of my calories in Protein and vegies. The only things I have problems with are steak and chex mix. Wishing you much luck on your weight loss adventure!

I'm a lost bandster....
feelinggood replied to butterflymackey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
How did you appointment go with the doctor? -
I love and eat spicy food all the time. Spicier the better especially now that my meals are so small I want to savor the flavor.
-
I don't think I ever had real hunger pre-band because I was always eating or looking for something to eat. Post-band I don't think I have real hunger either. I eat my 3 meals a day and sometimes I have the urge for a snack after dinner but never have stomach growls or strong urge to eat.

the after affects of the anesthesia can cause nausea. you can ask your doctor for a script to help the symptoms. good luck!

First of all congratulations on your decision to take the big step to get healthy. As for the naysayers... Say to them "I have made my decision and am not asking for your approval but rather your support. Either you will support me or you won't, the choice is yours but I am hoping you will." "Normal" weight people really have no concept of the disease of obesity and really believe it's as easy as eating less and exercising more. And the reality is eating less and exercising more is the answer but it's not at all easy! Good luck!

Mexico Lap Banders / 4cc lap banders????
feelinggood replied to xxjosettexx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a 4cc Allergan band done in Mexico Jan. 2013. No problems so far. Keep in mind these bands are not 'old'. They are newly manufactured and there have been modifications to correct some of the problems. Additionally, they way they are placed surgically has been improved. I am not advocating one over another but know that there could be complications with any of the bands depending on the surgeon, how your body reacts to it, too tight, not following the band rules, scarring, etc. You can do a google search to find the list of complications. Good luck. -
Night Time Snacker
feelinggood replied to MrsFraga2016's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pre band I used to sleep-eat. Seriously! Mostly chips and popcorn. My son took a picture of me 1x. Ridiculous!!! Now I don't eat after 7pm no matter what. Only crunchy snacks in the house are in my son's bedroom. -
