Okay here is my advise for what it is worth. Your band area is irritated. It needs to heal. So go on liquids ONLY for 2 days then start back at trying your mushies for 2 days - remember small bits, chew, chew and don't eat to fast. (These are the HARDEST things for me). This is from my experience -- I have episodes - but I am still hungery. The episode is not that I am to tight - but rather I did not chew enough or eating to fast. With my doctor - if you are hungry(not head hunger), can eat to much - or able to tolerate certain items steak - bread - he will give a fill. I have copied this portion from someone elses post - just as FYI: getting progressively tighter for about 10 days and then i level off. Now this could be for a couple of reasons. Let's say it's day 3, and i'm tighter than I was on day 2...but I'm eating the same things I did on day 2....but now I'm tighter and get stuck. This irritates my band, which makes day 4 even worse. So I think I'm going easy with my foods but now my stoma is irritated and the things I could eat on day 3, now I cannot eat....and I certainly can't eat the stuff I ate on day 2! So it gets to be kind of a vicious cycle as you're getting used to your new restriction. By day 8 or 9 I could barely eat anything (except for ice cream, gosh darnit). I am now prepared for my next fill (I think) and as I progress to solid foods I am going to go very very slowly, chew my food very well and pay attention!! If I get the slightest bit stuck I WILL STOP EATING....and go find something mushy or liquid to eat. The next day I will stay on mushies and liquids. Then the following day I will try solids again....going very very slowly. Make sense? Just do yourself a favor and follow the bandster rules to a T for the next 2 weeks and you'll probably be just fine. The support groups can be frustrating -- at least I found so as well. I liked the first one - I meet someone that had the surgery before I did - so that answered a lot of questions I had. The second one was so-so. I actually get more education and support here at LBT -- and can't beat the convenience-no driving, no set time, get to know everyone and feels like family - the good and the bad. LOL. Best wishes -- I have a fill tomorrow - I will be thinking about you! Hugs! Gina

This is wonderful Sara!!!!! Good luck keeping the restriction. Gina:clap2: -
Hi Janine --could your discomfort be where you did get stuck and it is swollen and you are having tenderness. Or where you didn't chew and it is inbetween the 2 stomachs. Coleslaw and spinach has done this to me. I try to stay away from soups when I am not in liquids stage -- remember liquids go through the band quickly - the goal is to eat to fill the pouch - feel satisfied - keep the feeling by not drinking for 1 hr -- When you have information regarding your vabeach trip let me know and I can cordinate the get together!

I get a fill – hopefully Thursday – so I am really praying I will get out of this slump I have been in for the past month. 3 wheels should ensure I don’t fall off. LOL. I will have to continue catching up tomorrow -- have a good night all! Gina

Hi everyone! I have had a busy weekend. Friday- flew out of Norfolk, Va to Providence RI - drove to office in Boston, then cookout in Woonsocket, RI that evening- Saturday drove to Casco, Maine for Funeral - ate in Ogunquit, Maine, and flew back home Sunday night late. Had lunch with DH at the airport (Phillips Seafood) Friday - and scared him to death -- a piece of coleslaw got stuck - OMG. Scared me too and made the whole weekend a little rough. I need to be on liquids - but none available on my tough schedule and I don't have any here at the house either -- I need to go to Sam's club tomorrow and get some. I hate the new airport security rules - no liquids more than 3 oz per container and all must fit into 1 qt size zip-lock bag. Playing catch-up today at work. Flying to charlotte Wednesday morning for Breakfast and meeting - then Charleston for lunch and afternoon meeting then back home by 10pm. They say it is going to be 100degrees in the Hampton Roads (Norfolk,Viriginia Beach, Chesapeake, VA) area and even hotter in Charleston, SC ---can't wait! Everyone seems to be doing good - lot's of victories of all shapes and sizes. Terry -- WOWSER! you are looking gooood. Well - I am tired - SOrry so much to catch up on, but :faint:I need to go to bed. Good night all! Gina
-
Thank you Terry! What a wonderful gift you are to us Shrinking Violets! Denise - I did as well (PM'd Terry) and yes she is termendous! Pamela - have FUN! I won't lose without ya! remaining steady 261-265 range. Have a great weekend all -- I will be away also this weekend! Gina

Sara – I agree with Terry, she makes a lot of good points. FIL doesn’t understand the full picture or how the band works. Please don’t think twice about his comment. I will keep the thoughts and prayers going for Dave, you and your family. Pam – love the pictures of the rooms – you did a wonderful job. Looks like the pain was well worth it. Theresa – good luck with the personal trainer and congrat’s on the NSV. Judy – congrat’s on the NSV Capri’s! Jane – congrat’s on your NSV – I can relate – I use to use a seatbelt extension while flying – I think this is finally behind me forever! Kat – oops… wisdom IS a good thing – I wish I would have had it when I was 16 – rather than a know it all! (LOL). What a wonderful Birthday present to yourself – 100lbs gone – forever!!!!!!!!! Jennifur – congrat’s on exceeding you exercise challenge! Good luck on the job front! Gina

Kat – 100lbs - we are so lucky to have you mentoring us. Thanks for helping us and sharing your insight and wisdom regarding LB and Life issues. Denise – The list was wonderful – my husband enjoyed it as well. I think it helps him understand it’s not just me – it normal to see us eat more than they think we can – at times. Judy – glad you are home safe and sound and had such a good time. Good luck on the fills. Josiebies – enjoy your company. Jennifur – I agree buffet is a waste of money now days. My husband had a doctor appt and we arrived early so we went to grab a quick bit to eat and there was Chinese buffet across the street – so I decided I didn’t need to pay 10 bucks for a few bits of no good for me food. I waited to go home and have my protein shake. – Hope the party went well. Michelle – Happy Anniversary! “-39” is great results. You are ahead of me! I was banded 4/9 and lost 32 with preop/post surgery I think – total. “She did clear up a few issues, like calorie range & drinking w/meals & fruit, etc...” Please share what she said about these issues. “reflection of myself in a shop window” remember we don’t always see the real picture – besides a shop window is like a clown window – can’t be trusted. Ms Jenn – Fantastic job! You are ROCK’N. Terry – you have a big heart to rescue these 2 in trouble. Ms Jenn – wow – you are on fire! Can’t wait to see b&a pictures from you soon! Judy – good luck on your fills and be safe traveling – weather is terrible everywhere it seems. Remember – baby steps afterwards. PB is no fun – as I remember from earlier this past week – my first and hopefully my last. Gotta go for now -- have a great day everyone -- getting ready to STORM here. Gina

Laura – it might be better to wait and take the classes next time – just being married, recently being banded and going for follow-up’s and adjusting lifestyle, new house and yard. You might get overwhelmed – I know I have that tendency. Congrat’s on NSV – also don’t forget you have to make time to shop for new clothes!!! Judy – busy busy busy Judy – have fun! We are going to miss you daily postings – but you have taught us well –WWJD! Sara – so sorry to hear about your dh. I will say many prayers for him. Sounds like you have a very warm and loving family. Adorable – they are the first to go for me– I was adequate previously, now (I don’t want to say it – I am in denial)… Jennifur – how rude of your guy friend! Must be the reason he is available. At leaset you found out from the getgo and not 3-6 months into the relationship. Wonderful job on completing the exercise challenge. Kat – I definetly will try my bacon that way! Thanks. Michelle – calorieking.com is a new one to me – I will check them out. Sounds like you are doing wonderful! You should post a picture of your artwork here for us to see. Laura – I get very frustrated with people who don’t do what they said they will do. Sounds like the lady at the doc office just doesn’t like confrontation – she was back peddling big time. My doctor does all fills under floura (sp?) on the same day of the week –each week (thurs) so he can be more aggressive, verify the band placement and takes less time in the end. I like it that way. Kat – better yet - I think you nailed it on the head – lazy & ditzy! Storms are almost here – have a great evening everyone! Gina
-
Are you better? Gina
-
Kity – I know having contractor doing work on your home is very frustrating while it is being done --- hope all turns out great – making it worth the frustrations. Laura – Congrat’s on your NSV today! I don’t know how everyone else feels --- but I get real embarrassed and feel uncomfortable lately when people mention how good I look and carry on about it. I always try to change the subject – which they always try changing it back to me. Laura – you are lucky that he makes you only wait 4 weeks – mine likes to wait 6 weeks. Which I think is way to long. Jenn, NY - I am sorry you are having such a hard time finding a job you enjoy. I wish you lived somewhere close to one of my offices – it is so hard now days to find people who want to work and have a good work ethic. I will keep praying the Dream Job comes to you! Tracy – you have a real special guy there! Wants to shop and complete wish lists. WOW. Enjoy this new attitude in your man. Denise F. – I am not (to date having hair loss issues) but I did when I was on Atkins. It stopped when I got off the diet and started eating protein. I understand where you are with it and hope it stops soon for you. Terry – good info regarding the hair loss problem. Thanks! Have a great evening everyone! Gina
-
Denise – that is a wonderful NSV! Congrat’s to you. You have worked hard for these moments and should enjoy each and everyone of them. I see many more in your future. TracyK – your daughter is beautiful. Jennifer & Jenn NY – congrat’s on being able to give up med’s. You both have to be ecstatic about that. Tracy – he realized how lucky he is to have you and doesn’t want to lose you! Mdrai & Judy– I hate that when you lose a post. I have started writing my post in Word then just copy and paste when I finish it. Terry – Yes I know you are just messin’ -- but I really want to! And I would be happy to have you (Gym Nazi) encouraging me to get off my lazy a$$ any day of the week – so thanks. Congrat’s on new BEST weight “190”. I can’t wait to get there – I have a long way though – I had my new BEST today at 261. That is mainly due to only having liquids for the past few days due to my EPISODE. Haydee – Have fun on vacation – and have your picture taken bunches and bunches! Enjoy. SchexyMomma – Thanks for sharing the picture. You all look so confident, proud and happy! Kat – You are right – I need to do the PT – the sad part is 1.) my insurance won’t cover it; 2.) I travel every other week; and 3.) it is 1 hour away each way. I will check into it again. It is amazing – we have the same herniation – I also had a tilted/twisted pelvis and wrenched tailbone. The pelvis is back in line – so that is good. Q: You BAKE bacon? Never heard of that. Hmmm. Gina
-
Thanks all for your sympathy for my first REAL Episode last night. I am only able to do liquids so far. I tried a teaspoon of cottage cheese - didn't feel good. I tried some yogart - I ate 1/2 maybe and that was enough of that as well. Tracy - I love the rings - my first ring was a marquise as well. Yours is prettier than mine was. :car: Laura - my doctor gave me Norethin ace - to get my periods back in sync since surgery (1/2 pill for 10 days - then you have TOM) -- I think the blood clotting med's and losing weight had them screwed up. I have endemetreious (sp?) as well. Terry - not that I am trying to make excuses - but I have a herniated disc - that started my whole - lose weight NOW journey. I went to my doctor a few weeks ago - because I want to, need to, exercise. I thought about joining Curves -- well he says no -- still have disc issue. Say's I need to go get shots and most likely surgery -- I HATE needles. I HATE SURGERY. He gave me a TENS unit to try see if it helps with pain. So -- I am thinking of joining curves anyway and deal with pain starting AUG 1. ??? Hmmmm... Have a good night all! Gina
-
OMG -- I have just had my first -- serious EPISODE! On my first and only bit of chicken at what was suppose to be dinner. It happened at 6ish and I am still feeling after effects. I don't even want ice cream -- I must be sick -- LOL. Kat817 - you make a lot of good points and reminders - for all of us. thanks. Have a great evening everyone. Gina

A little peppermint extract is good to add to the chocolate as well.

Hi Jane -- I just finshed "Lap-Band For Life" as well and posted some notes of the content. The first book I read was "Life after Gastric Bypass - 6 steps to ensure your weight loss success" by Katrina Segrave-- this was after attending Bypass seminar with my doctor -- I was determined this was the way I was going to go. Then I bought "The Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients" by Colleen M. Cook from the doctor's office. This one is quick easy reading as well -- Have a good night! Gina

MsJenn: My favorite is the frosting as well! Great job on the exercise challenge completing 18 of 20. TracyinKS: This is wonderful news! Enjoy every moment of this time in your life. Maybe us Violets can get together to give you a wedding shower! How fun would that be? Can’t wait to see pictures of the rings. By chance did you have any pictures of you and dbf from this weekend’s wedding? TerriDoodle: I haven’t read either book “Poisonwood Bible or Angela's Ashes” but I will check to see if audible.com has them and place them on my “next listen” list. Kity: I need a “skinny day”. Okay – I will make tomorrow my skinny day – I will only do my protein shakes. I tried today – but dh took me to lunch and it went down hill from there. The most I have lost since surgery is 28.6 – I am at 264 – so we are real close on size and results. I sometimes get frustrated thinking today is my 15 week anniversary and being disappointed in the amount of weight lost so far – I was expecting this process to be faster. But then I have to flip the coin and think about where I was and where I might be without the band – and be happy and content that I am losing and will continue to lose – even though it is slower than anticipated. You are doing great – keep up the good work! Chica Chula: I will post– I have been doing high protein and low carb – but this makes since and I am going to start this system. Here you go – (hope you can’ make sense of my notes – if you have questions – feel free to ask.): Ten Rules for Success - Guideliness and Nutrition Eat only three small meals a day.Once properly adjusted - you require only small amounts of food to reach fulliness.By eating three meals a day, you will fill your pouch, feel full, then allow enough time to empty it to feel hungry again. You only need to fill the pouch three times a day with appropiate food to give the body adequate nutrition. Eat solid foods, slowly, and chew thoroughly. (approximately 15 to 20 times a bite). The brain takes 20 minutes to detect that the stomach is full.Chewing thoroughly will permit you to eat adequate amounts of food, without food clogging the stoma.A properly adjusted band will permit you to eat only a third of the volume of food you were used to eating. Stop Eating as soon as you feel full.Because yo uare eating slowly, you can detect when your pouch tells you that it is full.Stop. Push the plate away. Just because you CAN shove more food in, doesn't mean you should.Remember your band can be at risk if you push it to it's limit. Do not wash down your solids with liquids.Liquids creates a slurry of food and allows it to slip down the stoma faster, which defeats the goal of getting the pouch full in order for the hunger signals to turn off.Don't drink within 20 minutes before a meal, and an hour after. (Some recommend 2 hrs after a meal.) Do not eat between meals. If you eat three regular small meals of solid foods and are properly adjusted, you should not be feeing hungry. You may have psychological hunger, also called head hunger and emotional hunger, but it is not real hunger.Learn ways to examine possible causes and ways to defeat it. Eat only good quality foods.Cereals: Prefer gains like beans, lentils or whole wheat bread or oats.Vegetables: Prefer broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, corn, cucumbers, eggplants, leafy greens (spinach, collard greens), mushrooms, onions, peppers, oumpkin, tomatoes, and winter squash.Fruits: one piece for breakfast, one at lunch, and one for dinner. Try apples, apriocots, blueberries, cantaloupe, grapefruit, kiwi, oranges, plums, pears, watermelon, and mango. Avoid canned fruit, dried fruit, and coconut.Meat, poultry, and fish: Serving size=deck of cars; most people need two or three servings a day. Prefer light meat, poultry, fish, shellfish, legumes, egg whites. Avoid hotdogs, bacon, peanut butter, sausage, duck, fried poultry.Milk, cheese and yogurt: Two servings a day, three if you are a teenager or pregnant or a lactating woman. Prefer nonfat and 1% milk, low fat cottage cheese, nonfat yogurt. Avoid whole milk and whole cheese whole yogurt, milk shakes and ice cream.Fat: you do need fat. Three servings a day is good. Prefer avocado, veg. oil, almonds, and nuts. Avoid maynnase, lard, butter and margarine. Avoid fibrous foods.Certain vegetables (asparagus) and fruits (pineapple) and some meats contain many fibers that may clog the LAP-BAND, even if they are thoroughly chewed. Eating these can only cause regurgitation and vomiting. This in turn can upset the normal function of your band. Drink enough fluids during the day.Drink at least six to eight glasses of fluids per day. Many banded people drinl a great deal more.As the body burns off fat, it creates waste product that the fluids are critical to providing a channel for excretion through the urine. Drink only low-calorie liquids.Drink only low-calorie liquids. Water, tea and coffee without milk and sugar and other non-caloric beverages, are acceptable.Crstal Light can be a satisfying alternative.Consuming carbonated beverages are for the most past not encouraged. Exercise at least thirty minutes a day.Phyiscal exercise consumes energy and sustained exercise increases your metabolism. You can start off slowly with walking and using a pedometer walk 10,000 steps a day and then add more strenouse exercises, such as joining a dance class, yoga, or wahtever is of interest to you that will offer you vigorous exercise. Nutrition (refer to Food Pyramid - Image:USDA Food Pyramid.gif - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Eat from every food group at each meal. Try a little bit of every choice even though you can't finish what is on your plate. Between meals - if you must eat, try something fresh like a fruit or vegetables. Practical Tip refered to "The Plate" Divide your plate into four sections, leaving the center for the following results: 1st Box - a serving of protein, poultry, fish, or red meat. (size=deck of cards 2nd Box - minimum of 1/2 cup green veggies (you can eat as much as you want) 3rd Box - some fruit (remember fruit and veggies prevent cancer) 4th Box - 1 or 2 servings of carbohydrates, or starchy vegetables (corn, carrot, potato, or yams)**It is recommended that you eat your carbs at the end of your meal, because some people have trouble eating carbs with the LAP-BAND. This way you've eaten protein, fruit, and veggies. CENTER - should be one serving of fat. Remember that monounsaturated fat is best. 1 teaspoon oil, margarine, mayonnaise, butter or regular salad dressing 1/5 avacado 1 slice bacon 2 tablespoons nuts or seeds [*]Liquid - 2 servings of dairy products daily (can be used in-between meals) non-fat yogurt glass of skim milk cup of non-fat frozen yogurt Bread Group - 6 - 11 servings Carb's 50-55% of total Calories 1 carb = 4 calories One Serving = 1 slice bread 1 corn tortilla 4 crackers 1 oz ready to-eat cereal (3/4 c) 1/2 c cooked cereal, rice, pasta or beans 1/2 c oatmeal1 baked potato (that fits in the palm of your hand) 3 cups of popcorn Vegetables Goup - 3-5 servings 1 c raw leafy vegetables 1/2 c other vegetables, cooked or chopped raw 3/4 c vegetable juice Fruit Group - 2-4 servings 1 med apple, banana, orange 1/2 c chopped cooked or canned fruit 3/4 c fruit juice Dairy Goup - 2-3 servings 1 c milk or yogurt 1 1/2 oz of natural cheese 2 oz process cheese 1 cup of non-fat frozen yogurt Meat Group - 2-3 servings Protein 15-20% of total Calories 1 gr protein = 4 calories 2-3 oz of cooked lean meat, poultry or fish 1/2 c cooked dry beans counts as 1 oz lean meat 1 egg 2 tbsp peanut butter 1/3 cup nuts Fat Group - sparingly (2-3 servings) Fat 30%or less of total Calories 1 gr fat = 9 calories 1 teaspoon oil, margarine, mayonnaise, butter or regular salad dressing 1/5 avacado 1 slice bacon 2 tablespoons nuts or seeds Sorry for the extra long post - Gina

Terry: I am a regional manager for a finance company. I cover VA, NC, SC, GA, TN, AL. Books – I actual listen to books while I travel on my ipod – I belong to www.audible.com and for 16.95 a month – I get 2 books of my choice. I have been listening to Sue Grafton’s – she does a series about a female PI – the first in the series is “A is for Alibi” then “B is for Burglar” then “C is for Corpse” and so forth – I am up to P: “A is for Alibi” Publisher's Summary When Laurence Fife was murdered, few mourned his passing. Plenty of people had reason to want him dead. But the police thought his wife Nikki , with motive, access and opportunity, was the #1 suspect. The jury thought so too. Eight years later and out on parole, Nikki hires Kinsey Millhone, a gutsy P.I., to find the real killer. The trail is cold, but Kinsey finds a lead that brings her face-to-face with the murderer! This is the first in the popular series featuring California investigator Kinsey Millhone. She's 32, twice divorced, no kids, an ex-cop who likes her work...and who works strictly alone! Don't miss the other titles in the Kinsey Millhone Alphabet Mystery Series. Judy: God bless you for taking in Jetta –German Shepherds’ are a working dog – they need a job. I have one 6 years old on Aug 1 and she is the best “child” we have ever had. Her job is catching Frisbees – and she knows when it’s her time to go and catch – and Katie bar the door – until you go… She is up to 4 times a day minimum right now. Heaven help us…. Oh- I should mention it is not good enough for only one of us to go out to play – she needs both Mommy and Daddy before she plays. 50 lbs – WOW that is tremendous victory to e celebrated! Jenn: I have never been on a cruise and would like to take one. I did watch a TV program about the fees can add up – and what some of the hidden charges/costs are – so I think that is why I have been shy about pursuing one. Keep us in the loop on your research. Wishing you a break from the plateau. I am on one as well --stuck at 264. Pamela: When my now husband was dating –we only were together every other weekend – it makes a relationship stronger I believe – we are celebrating our 11 year wedding anniversary – 15 years all together (in November.) TracyK: I think it is healthy to eat what you want in moderation – once in a while … Jennifer: Have fun at the baby shower –and enjoy the cake!!!!!!!!!

WOW -- I left Tuesday on a business trip - and I just got caught up -- whew... Pg 330 to 341. TracyinKS: Thanks for inquiry and sorry I didn't mention i would be out of loop for a while. I lurk more than post and didn't think I would be missed. It is great being a VIOLET - we are all loved! Your lawnmowing picture - you look like a different person. Congrat's on the 232.3 - they ALL will be jelous at the wedding. Stand proud and confident -- and have FUN! Teachlady: Great job on the money-making garage sale! And thank you for saving Jetta's life -- I absolutely love animals. If you still have issues -- try taking to obedience training. What breed is Jetta? Kat817: Please have a safe trip with lots of fun and pictures! I really enjoy see pictures from everyone. Mdrai: I agree - I would like a bit more help from the band. This journey has been a lot slower than I ever would have imagined. MsJen: Thanks for the recipe - sounds yummy. Kity: You sound so organized and energized. I barely get the house cleaned and keep the weeds out of the flowerbeds. Keep up the great work and love to see pictures as well. Janiebug: Fantastic news having the tube removed. I hope you do well at curves! lost_secret: Welcome - you have great results! Keep posting updates. TerriDoodle: I had my most recent fill 7/12 -- and you are right it changes -- must take everything slow. Josiebies - great news --you can eat! Jennifur - cruise from Norfolk? I will help if that is waht is decided. I live in the Hampton Roads area. I finished the "Lap-Band for Life" by Ariel Ortiz Lagardere MD FACS this trip. (Yes I travel a lot - I try to keep it to everyother week - that's my goal.) His Guidelines and Nutrition for Success is eat from every food group at each meal. This is totally different than what my doctor's guidelines were. I keep a journal of my journey of things I learn and notes for quick and easy reference and refresher. Once I journal my notes regarding his suggestions - I will post if you Shinking Violet's are interested. Have a great Saturday everyone! Gina

Does anyone regret being banded?
GR8 replied to kero's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't regret it! Here is the link: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/before-after-pictures-pix-only-4642/ Gina -
Be safe than sorry -- go back and follow the doctor's orders.
-
I think you have something here - Jennifur. I get on plateau's and then the scale moves downward when I ate - ate -ate and thinking the scale is going to move UPward. I wish it was black and white -- do this, this, and this -- and you will lose this. No guessing games!:cry Gina
