Any February 2013 Bandsters?
akwright68 replied to laughingatlilies's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded last friday and have been itchy everywhere. I am told that everything is healing and it will go away. I have claw marks from scratching. -
I was banded Friday as well. I was told to expect bowels to adjust 3 - 5 days after surgery. The anesthesia binds you up.

am i stupid or what
akwright68 replied to ErinSue2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't beat yourself up. I keep hearing about the unjury unflavored Protein. You might try mixing them with fruit juice or soup. We are healing inside so it will take more time for your body to adjust. We are all addicted to food at all levels, that is how we got where we are. Stay positive, throw out the negative and give yourself a pat on the back for listening to your body, not just your mind. -
My surgery was yesterday as well. Just a little sore and groggy. It was easier than my c-sections. The gas pains are minimal. The worst was waking up in the O.R. and hyperventilated and sat straight up, they were afraid i opened something up. I am a little sore from that, but definitely not a bad experience.

Doing good. A little groggy, no gas pains yet. Had an anxiety attack right after surgery, could not breathe (hyperventillated) and sat straight up and oh the pain. Going home now. -

akwright68 replied to laughingatlilies's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today is the day. 9 a.m. surgery time. Yesterday I was an anxiety ridden mess, this morning I am calm as a cucumber. Ready to get banded. Good luck to everyone else being banded today as well. -
Thank you. It is 5:20 a.m. EST and I am sitting here on the couch just exhausted. Yesterday I was an anxiety ridden mess. I am much better this morning and really ready to get this done and start the healing. Thank you everyone for being so supportive and being our rocks when we are ready to fall apart. I have to be at the hospital by 7 am and have to get the kids ready for school, so off to my mom duties before the big band time occurs. Good luck Talliegurl.

Seriously Embarrassed !
akwright68 replied to Destined*Lady*D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had started a "temp job" assignment and on the second day I broke an office chair. These people were not nice about it at all. The temp service called me at lunchtime and asked me what happened, but told me that my assignment there was over and the company wanted me to pay for the office chair. I was outraged, but embarrassed. I broke the step on our boat ladder and could not get up into the boat without 3 grown men helping me. I think we can all come up with something that we have broken, been totally humiliated over and at this point we all just have to laugh and grow from the experience. -
Surgery in the morning......
akwright68 replied to hopeful_janna's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You both are barely ahead of me, mine is Friday morning. I feel tons of emotions, but my mind is strong. We are ready for the journey and it is going to be the best thing we have ever done. The band is going to be our best diet buddy. Let us focus on the positive and forget the negative. Good luck tomorrow. I will keep you in my prayers. -

Protein shake flavorings and recipes?
akwright68 replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
https://apps.facebook.com/visalusrecipes/ The above is a link to the Visalus site that has tons of recipes. Even without their base shake (which tastes like vanilla cake batter), the recipes are universal. I hope it gives everyone some ideas. -

Kristen, I was told by my doctor that they would call in a prescription for anti-nausea meds as it might rip the internal stitches if I threw up. You might ask for a few days worth. -

Social Stigma and Full Disclosure
akwright68 replied to Mellzbellz21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband does not have a privacy filter so everyone of our friends and family know about my upcoming surgery. I originally had only told one or two people at work, but I have 8 managers and had to tell them when my phone was forwarded to a conference room during a training session and the hospital called confirming my pre-op appointment. There were only twelve of us in the room, so it is still very limited, but I did open up at that point and stated that I was having the lap band procedure on my vacation day. I confirmed that I would be back to work on the following Monday morning and that if anyone had any questions for me they could ask me privately at a more appropriate time. So far there have only been two of my immediate managers that are acting a little strange towards me, but it really is their issue, not mine. I think mentally that I have reached the crossroads of being totally comfortable with my decision and that I really do not care who knows. At least they can come ask questions or be ignorant and not ask any and just assume they know. It is my personal journey and I am comfortable with my upcoming surgery and my new lifestyle. I hope that you find your own comfort zone. I wish you luck regardless of how you approach it. We are all in this together. -

The Lap Band Is a Silent Speaker!! Learn to Listen!!

That is a great statement. So helpful for us pre-banders that don't have a clue. -
You look amazing. Congratulations.

Hormones play a 50% role in this, the other is mental. Due to my weight I have cysts on my ovaries that grow and choke off the hormone production, then they go down and normalize. They are non-cancerous so the doctor's will not remove them until they are softball size. My weight plays a huge factor in their existence, so weight loss is the ultimate goal for me. I go months without wanting my husband to even touch me, but I keep this private from him as to not hurt his ego or feelings. I usually just "go along for the ride" to keep him happy, but I really could care less. When my hormone levels are fine I initiate more and I want it all the time. It is a crazy roller coaster, but I hear that the more weight we lose the more the hormones even out.
