How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

I don't think you were wrong...I concur :hurray:
  3. OMG-I would feel sooo cheated! IT may have been a hormonal imbalance? Did you address it with your doctor? They say you burn an extra 500-800 calories a day by breastfeeding, so if you go by numbers, it should at least MAINTAIN even eating extra instead of going up!!! I'm so sorry, I would have been really mad were I you. I just went back and checked my notes, when I got pregnant the first time I was 235, I gained between 45-50 lbs with the pregnancy and by the time I returned to work 5 months later I was down to 216 (not dieting or exercising) so I know by my habits and history that the weight loss was due to breast feeding because I went through a postpartum depression and guess what? I EAT when depresssed...ho hum. This time I plan on getting back to the gym right after the 6 weeks I have to wait to heal (for a C Section) to try to combat the nasty post partum and I will do my darndest to keep sweets out of the house and stick to fruits to kill the dreaded sweet tooth. I think during this time I will hide the scale though as it is my biggest downfall. I'm really happy to hear that even though you had weight gain with your last pregnancy that you even considered breast feeding again, it is so good for both mom and baby and many of us fight it (it's easy to do in this day and age when it just isn't convenient and some of us JUST have a hard time getting the baby to take it as well...I did at first) Good for you, keep us posted on your progress, we love to hear from you!!!!!! How old is your baby now? ps...i'm so excited to get to meet my baby, i'm dreaming of his little face almost every night right now..i'm so smitten with my little man and haven't even gotten to meet him yet.:smile2:
  4. Well he sounds like he was alot of work bringing into this world, but well worth it! Congrats to you and the new daddy! Please post some pics soon, we are ALL dying to see this handsome little man.
  5. I just can't contain myself any longer..... I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET MY BABY! Thanks, it felt good getting that out. Love you all!!
  6. Are you planning on breast feeding? Or even pumping? If so, you will find the weight will come off even faster and it is so beneficial to the child if you can do it...now studies show that it reduces the chance of breast cancer too. I dropped 16 pounds within a couple of weeks of my last birth due to breast feeding (I know it had to have been due to that because i WAS TOTALLY eating everything in sight) unfortunately when I returned to work 5 months later, I tried pumping, but my milk started drying up, so I only got 5 months in, I plan on going the full year with this one if my body will let me.
  7. Yeah there was a dark spot come to think of it...maybe she was trying to figure out what it was...a mystery twin or some such...LOL I can't tell what they are looking at half the time anyway...last time I went "wow look how big my baby's head is.." to which the tech replied "that's his abdomen" needless to say, I made no more comments until told what I was looking at...LOL

    Where are my fellow Oregonians?

Hello fellow Oregonians...i'm pregnant right now so have put my weight loss on hold until after the baby is born (Nov.) but in the meantime I am putting together a support group (nothing formal-just some of us getting together to offer support and/or advice and an opportunity to talk about our lapband woes and successes with others who understand) I for one could really use some support and know that there are others out there who feel the same way. If you are interested in joining, please let me know...I am located in the Beaverton area. Thanks, Renee:thumbup:
  9. I'm checking in twice a day to see if she's responded...I hope everything went okay, obviously something has happened...of course with a newborn, who has time to play on the computer... :w00t:
  10. I carry most of my stomach fat in my lower abdomen so my port is protruding and has been since about 4-5 months along, I have to be careful when laying on my left side because it is tender there...the good news is that my skin is so stretched out from being so big before and baby one that I have NO NEW stretch marks ( I was about 40 lbs heavier starting out with baby #1 as opposed to this pregnancy) Anyway, I still have to make it until Nov. 16th (although I think baby will come more like Oct 31-Nov 6th) so let's hope my port doesn't decide to make a break for it.. :w00t:
  11. LMAO....you crack me up...i'll have to try that...when I was getting an ultrasound, the tech ran the wand over it at one point and it hurt because she was really pushing and I told her I had a port there (of course she was curious and I told her what it was) and she avoided it from then on to make sure and not cause me any more discomfort...why she was looking so high up is anyones guess-sometimes they rove around "pushing" to get my little guy to change positions so that may be what was going on.
  12. Good luck, keep us updated...be careful, these bands are pricey tools, and we want to take good care of them!
  13. I too had a complete unfill, but same as you, the amount that came out was less than what had been put in...anyway I was warned to take it easy for 24 hours to give my stomach time to "reduce any swelling" etc..well I couldn't wait, I had a hamburger for dinner that night (my unfill was around noon that day) and I had NO problems whatsoever and until I hit my sixth month of pregnancy had felt no restriction...now i've had a couple of PB's...I would suggest you give yourself a day or two, it sounds like you have some stress on your stomach and definitely need to address the acid reflux. If you are still having issues, then call your doctor...
  14. what happened with your port after you got really big towards the end? Mine is already pushing against my skin and a little sore, i'm wondering how long it will go before it pushes through my skin...LOL j/k but I am a little concerned ..
  15. I had "spotting" with my first child (I wouldn't categorize it as spotting because to me it was quite heavy) and was sure each time it happened that I had miscarried..I would call the Dr. crying telling them it was all over the baby is gone and they would have me come in anyway 'just to be sure'...well I delivered a beautiful healthy baby girl almost 5 years ago...so I can testify that spotting doesn't always mean anything...whatever you do...DO NOT get on the internet and research every little spasm, pain, cramp, spottiness etc...I drove myself NUTSO with all my symptoms and with this pregnancy i've avoided it and i'm much happier and more relaxed.
  16. I don't fully understand what is involved with stripping the membranes, but it sounds...painful? Let us know if this helps and/or if you just need to vent some more...you deserve it!

    May 2007 Banders

I'm still here...i'm prego so not really living the lapband lifestyle...in fact I have been eating hamburgers....it's nice since I hadn't had one for almost 2 years..but once I deliver, I need to get back on the bandwagon!! Where is everyone else?? Has everyone just went and gotten all skinny on us and quit following lapbandtalk?
  18. I'm so sorry! I can feel your frustration. I pray you will go into labor soon. You may want to call your local masseusse, I have "heard" that there is a certain spot on your foot that can induce labor (I know there is no scientific proof, but I can see that you are ready to try anything at this point) or even have your husband give you a thorough foot rub and maybe he will hit the right spot...if not, you got a good foot rub out of the deal and hey what can that hurt??? Remember we are all here praying and for those who don't pray-sending positive energy your way. -Renee
  19. This week i'm starting to feel restriction again. On a bite of rice I had a PB! No kidding, it shocked me! I think with the growing baby inside of me it pushed what little fluid was still in my tubing up into the lapband and is causing it to be tighter, that and it could also be fluid retention...I would NOT recommend getting any fills while pregnant! You have WAY too many other things to worry about than your band. Renee
  20. I felt that way in the beginning but now i'm worried as I really didn't think with my newer healthier eating habits I would have gained this much this fast....thanks for the support though.
  21. I know what you mean about dog tired..my first trimester could barely make it from bed each morning down the stairs and to the couch....it passes when you get to your second trimester.....just think about it being natures was of making sure your baby gets a good strong hold on life in your uterus! I got online and ordered ALOT of books from the local library and picked them all up at once and started reading like crazy...it helps keep your mind off of how tired you feel. Renee
  22. Hi all...I haven't posted to lapband lately as i've been busy being pregnant...LOL Seriously, the first 3 months were awful, now i'm at 23 weeks and have been feeling better for a few weeks and actually out and about doing things... I need to vent though as i'm starting to get concerned. I had finally gotten down to 200 lbs before I got pregnant and was working HARD for onederland...when I got pregnant I said "i'm not going to worry about my weight" then I got an almost total unfill (there was a small amount left in there they couldn't get) but I was suddenly able to eat anything and I had a burger and it was (i'm not kidding) orgasmic! Well i've had a burger at least once a week since i've gotten pregnant and sometimes fries and/or onion rings and i've really put on the weight (I weighed in this am at 230 lbs!) my doctor told me at my last appointment (I was 225) that I shouldn't worry as i've only put on 13 lbs, but I told her the first 12 pounds happened before I even made it in for my first intake appointment!!!! So now i'm up 30 lbs and i'm starting to feel really scared. I walk 2-4x a week but the weather is getting pretty hot so if I spend alot of time cleaning house on hot days I feel my exercise level if adequate, I eat at least an apple a day to keep my fiber up, but my body is just packing on the pounds and I don't want to have to lose 50 lbs after this baby is born...I think the reason i'm packing on lbs alot is because I drink milk with every meal (I'm really craving it) but i've switched to 1% and i'm still packing on the lbs....thanks for letting me vent, now I feel better! On a lighter note, I found out the baby is a boy, he appears healthy and well developed and he is a mover and shaker!! He loves the sound of his big sisters voice, when she's a talking he's a movin! Daddy is really excited too and loves to put his head on my tummy to be close to his new son. This baby is going to be so loved and a valuable member of our family....regardless of how fat his mommy is. :crying:
  23. These days being 39 is not a huge concern...we have the BEST healthcare available to us...the doctors will put you through EXTRA tests etc. to be sure your baby is okay...as for your weight you are not doing bad at all! My first child I weighed 250 lbs when I got prego and I was 35, I actually didn't gain much weight with that baby because I ATE everything I wanted to anyway...that is WHY I was so heavy...now i'm banded, it's four years later and i'm at 200 lbs....all I have to say is take it easy on the sweets, try to get some walking in, do what your doctor says and be relaxed....trust me it will make a BIG difference on the temperament of your child by how relaxed or NOT you are!! oh and CONGRATS! :tongue_smilie:
  24. I'm pretty sure my port is flipped already...I sent Dr. Ortiz an email and he hasn't responded, I think I need to contact his office help but right now getting enough calories and nutrition in is my Main concern...i'm soooo tight...argh-I don't want a sickly baby...
  25. fyi: I'm scheduled for an unfill on the 27th.
