I'm a year and a half from the Big "5-0". It's way past time for me to take control of my health and set the tone for the rest of my life! I have terrible lungs, high blood pressure, and am exhausted all the time. Everything I love to do takes energy and good health! After a year of research and internal debate, I chose Dr. Jesse and set a date for the week of Thanksgiving! Unfortunately those aweful lungs came down with bronchitis again and I had to push my surgery back to December 19th.

Surgery went off without a hitch. I was so thankful for everyone's posts on this site. I experienced exactly what everyone else described. Slight pain at incisions, horrible pain in neck and shoulder, but overall not too bad. I walked the beach on day three and felt pretty good.

I started out at 215, was at 211 the day of surgery and have lost 12 more in the first month.

I was supposed to have my first fill on 2/1/2013, but again my blasted lungs aren't with the program. I have whooping cough and have been on heavy doses of antibiotics and steroids for three weeks now. I'm determined to get my first fill next Friday. I really feel almost no sense of restriction. I'm not eating the large portion sizes I was before and am certainly satisfied longer. It's hard to gauge hunger because I've been feeling so lousy from the whooping cough. Who knew that the vaccine we got as kids wears off after 30 years!

I've eaten mostly fish and veggies, salads etc... but I've tried beef, pizza, pasta, rice, soda, bread, and have yet to have any feelings of "stuck", productive burps, or hiccups like I've heard others describe. I'm guessing that comes when you begin to fill the band.

I'm excited to be on this journey to health and look forward to sharing each others success!
