Amy - Just hang in there girl...don't give up on it. Unless you're shaking and about to pass out from hunger, being a bit hungry isn't the worst thing to deal with. Also, make sure it's not just your stomach rumbling. After surgery my stomach rumbled constantly! I thought I was hungry, but then it would do it right after I ate and felt satisfied with the quantity I had. Then when I moved on to mushies, my stomach would rumble every time I drank water too. And now that I'm on solids, I eat my protein, I feel very comfortable and after that hour passes and I start on my water again, the rumbling starts up again too. It's rumbling less and less and time goes on, but I figured there's no way in heck that can be hunger when I've just eaten and feel ok. I literally have also had to stop and really think, am I hungry or is it just my stomach rumbling that makes me think I am? Am I hungry, or is it head hunger and I just think I am? I agree that bandster hell exists and I swear I'm waiting for it to come get me. Maybe I'm just a bit slower than everyone else. You know your fill is coming soon...you just need to make it until then. If you made it this far, I know you can get to that fill appt. Chin up! We've got your back!

5 days post-op... so hungry
Jewelsm1127 replied to TattooBeauty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc gave me a very specific guide. 1st week - full liquids - 1/4 cup 5-6 times/day; 2nd Week - mushies - 1/4-1/2 cup 4-6 times/day; 3rd Week - soft foods - 1/2-3/4 cup 3-5 times/day; 4th Week - all foods - 3/4-1 full cup 3 times/day. I was only eating about 2 ounces per meal during full liquids so I definitely ate several times a day. I would fill up quickly but it's not like it held me for several hours. Worst case scenario, always check with your doc and see what their guidelines are. -
Sorry Amy! I don't mean to sound like I'm rubbing it in. But I think a huge part of it is that I mentally prepared myself beyond all recognition. If my mental will is there I'm like a steam roller...get outta my way because nothing is going to stop me. The other huge part is that high Protein and low carb eating keeps me full. Even when I did Atkins years ago the amount of food I ate gradually decreased. Right now that's how I'm working it. No bread, rice, crackers, potatoes, fruit, etc. whether its whole wheat or processed I'm just a not having any. If I have even a little bit of any of those its like opening Pandora's box...I'm starving and just wanting more. Hang in there and find what works for you. You can do this, I know you can!

I LOVE PEANUTBUTTER - WHAT IS YOUR WEAKNESS?
Jewelsm1127 replied to bethcav's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
French fries...definitely French fries! -
No, my doc doesn't do that so it wasn't an option. All I have is a 10.5cc band. CarolinaGirl has the plication with the band though.

The Perfect "ME" Day!
Jewelsm1127 replied to Spaness2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Excellent point. I guess you've got Mistress Band and I've got the Masochistic Masseuse! But even my therapist gets a massage at the salon he works at and he has it done by this woman (Mary). He told me when she got a hold of him and started in on one of his arms he dropped the F bomb! Either way, enjoy. If I had a need (and could afford it) I would go for massages weekly. But once a month is better than nothing! -
I think CarolinaGirl didn't have any fills and I believe I've seen a few others post that they don't have a fill so it's definitely not uncommon. Like I said, I think I'm just one of the lucky ones and I'm soooo ok with that!

Doctor filled band half full during surgery
Jewelsm1127 replied to Giovy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I say hold off on the fill if you don't need it. I have no fill, banded 12/21, eat 3oz of protein and maybe a couple of cucumber slices or some cheese 3 times per day with no snacks and I'm not hungry at all. I'm waiting for the hunger to show up one day so I'm saving my fills for when I really need them! :-) -
The Perfect "ME" Day!
Jewelsm1127 replied to Spaness2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
90 minutes! Man, my guy beats the crap out of me in 60 minutes (strong 21 year old with good arms). I had one on Sunday and I'm still hurting today! If I had 90 minutes I'd be in traction! Enjoy Terry!!! -
Adrianna - My sister! I was also banded on 12/21. Started pre-op diet on 12/5 (liquids/protein shakes). I'm the opposite of you...I lost 23lbs pre-op and then another 17.5lbs through today for a total of 40.5lbs. No fill and I don't plan on getting one any time soon if I can help it. My will power is holding up and I'm still not quite that hungry so I'm going to save the fill for when I really need the help. Congrats to you on the 40lb loss! It's awesome having droopy butt pants sometimes, isn't it? :-)

The Perfect "ME" Day!
Jewelsm1127 replied to Spaness2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the same thing. 1 hour deep tissue massage and a pedicure and eyebrow wax. Loved it! -
Thank you all! 68 more pounds to go so not too bad. You know, when my tracker said that I had 108.5 lbs to lose I thought wow, that's a lot! Now it says 68...eh, that's not so bad is it? I'll get there all in good time. :-)

Is bigger better?
Jewelsm1127 replied to michpell39's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc waits until he gets in there. Apparently he gave me what he calls the regular one which is 10cc's. But he has a larger one as well. -
Again, I seem to be on the other end of the spectrum. I'm low carbing it. Usually I don't have room for a veggie. I do 3 oz of protein and that keeps me very satisfied and content for 4-5 hours. I was banded 12/21/12 and have no fill yet. I'm starting to think I'm one of the very lucky ones.

Low Calorie intake Is it healthy??
Jewelsm1127 replied to Creekwood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hover between 800-1000 every day. My doc didn't stress cals as much as protein so I eat a lot of lean protein every day in the form of meat and some cheese. I haven't had any issued with dizziness or anything. I also take a Vitafusion gummy multi vitamin daily. So far so good. I see my doc for my 2nd post op visit on 2/21. -
How much weight did you lose preop?
Jewelsm1127 replied to wozzicat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
23lbs for me. I had 3-5 Bariatric Advantage shakes per day which I could add fruit or peanut butter to and unlimited sugar free clear liquids of which I just stuck to chicken broth. But, I also started out at 275.5 lbs. How much you start at and your activity level and such will all play a part. Just hang with it. My loss wasn't consistent. A bunch would come off then nothing and then another few pounds would come off. -
LOOOOOVVVVEEEE Chipotle!!!

WARNING::: Girl Scout Cookie Time ;-(
Jewelsm1127 replied to 2muchfun's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My niece is now a full fledged Girl Scout. I did buy a bunch of cookies from her but I will be taking them to work to give them away. Fortunately since surgery nothing sweet tastes good. I'm all about the salty savory foods now. -
Cheesecake Stuffed Strawberries, Happy Valentines Day!
Jewelsm1127 replied to PattyGirl66's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yep saw this on EmilyBites.com. Looks tasty. -
The only thing I have to warn you guys about us that you get an online chatter bug like myself who posts like a mad woman and even though I have only been banded since 12/21/12 I can get in on this forum. I still consider myself an obvious and total novice so I'm going to stay out of your hair although I might pop in to read what you guys post. Not sure is 100 posts is maybe a bit low? And it should be considered by bandiversary date instead? Just sayin.

Look at all that extra room on that chair! :-)
-
I took no pain meds but for the first two weeks post op I swear I was waking up every two hours. Now, I'm back to my usual sleep pattern. I was banded 12/21 and I've been sleeping fine for a few weeks now.

Steph - I am the same as Terry. I eat meat at every meal and 3oz packs quite a bit of protein. I don't have a fill either so I can tolerate any meat too. So far I haven't had an issue getting my protein in.
-
My doc said no liquid protein to replace my meals. Liquid runs right through the band and doesn't keep you full. However if that is enough for you and you don't get hungry I say more power to you.
-
Ok that cracked me up too..especially about walking and having it slip out! LOLOLOL!!! I also have more gas and yes it's slipped out. I just walk away very quickly and hope it doesn't follow me! :-D
