When did you feel hungry?
Terry Poperszky replied to jennygirl37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 3 for me, I can feel the hunger, but it is like it is behind a thick curtain. Swelling is down quite a bit from Monday, but having a hard time getting enough calories into me. I get skim milk tomorrow, so that should help. -
To tell or not to tell......
Terry Poperszky replied to merika0821's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Immediate family and a couple of close friends to support me before the surgery. After surgery, I will tell as it comes up, easier for me to tell than to make excuses as to why I won't eat. I didn't want the negative before, making the surgery decision harder. Now? Bring it on. -
You all have been warned....

You are correct, you won't. Don't worry though, it baffles our neighbors to the north as well. BTW, no gun should have the shame of being colored pink. It might fail you when you need it, just out of spite -
And I must say, the pre-op diet SUCKS.

2 days out from surgery and I am very happy with the results. Moderate pain, very little nausea and no vomiting and most importantly no hunger. The restriction is getting better as my swelling goes down and drinking has become too easy. I need to think while I am drinking, not just engage auto pilot. I did 2-30 minute sessions on the treadmill yesterday, and I am on track for 2-45 minute sessions today.

Pre-op diet hunger is gone, now the cravings are starting...
Terry Poperszky replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The starving will come for me as well, of that I am sure as well. I took a picture of the 11K check that the surgery cost me and made it the background on my phone, to help with those times when they come. I might even frame a copy and put it on the fridge to help me through those times. As far as pain? shoot, pain let's you know you are still alive. -

I'm doing better than I expected. Heating pad took care of the arm pain, incisions are a bit tender but not bad at all. I am just getting used to the new feelings of what happens when I swallow something, that and learning how to burp again (TMI). Did 30 minutes on the treadmill with no problems, so I will probably hit it a couple of more times today. How are things on day 5? -
Preop weight loss
Terry Poperszky replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you will find that different Dr.s want different things, I lost 10 pounds pre-op from 296 to 286. In our pre-op meeting my wife asked if he would still have done the surgery if I hadn't lost any weight and the answer was yes. The pre-op diet from his view point was to shrink the liver to make the operation easier. You may have different circumstances though. BTW, his nurse said the pre-op diet was to make you more thank for the band -
how long did it take you from first approaching doctor to surgery?
Terry Poperszky replied to aviva1979's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just had mine done yesterday, and the first time I met the surgeon was at his seminar, December 16th. I am self pay, my insurance does cover WLS, but only after a 12 month Dr. supervised weight loss program (which they don't pay for), if I could stick to a 12 month low calorie diet, I wouldn't have needed a band! -
Most "Fat Free" products jack up the calorie content via adding other products (like sugar), most "no sugar added" products do the same thing by using other types of sugar. Look at the nutritional labels to figure out what you are actually getting and go from there.

You go girl, mine was yesterday. Very interesting day, and a whole new set of signals to learn from my body.

Had mine done today, everything went will except the surgeon was running late. At home now, heating pad and popsicles are my new best friends. -

Well, I guess I will find out how to deal with it soon enough, I am siting here in my surgical gown waiting to be taken back to the OR -
8:15 Monday morning, only one more day. Made broth and froze it today, did my clear liquid shopping. Church tomorrow morning, and then figure out how to take my mind off it in the afternoon. Been craving comfort foods even though I am not really hungry, more nerves than anything else.

My goal last year was to do a century, but by the time I was able to get up to a decent speed (15mph for an hour) I knees started to hurt from the strain. So, with my surgery scheduled for 1/7/13, is it unrealistic to try a century later on this year? Also, any tips for the lap band and a cyclist?

day 2 of pre-op diet
Terry Poperszky replied to cofoner's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery on Monday, and the pre-op diet is nasty. I am not sure whether it is to shrink the liver, or prove that you have the will power to make the band work -
There was one down in Payson, but he wanted something like 500 a fill. There was another one at the Foothill Family Practice, but the machine he used was broken, had been for 2 months and the nurse didn't know when it was going to be fixed.

Any Road Cyclists on the forum?
Terry Poperszky replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Cunner, I am looking forward to it, I have always been fat and active, which is why I have had two knee replacements. One of the wakeup calls for me was last year as I was trying to build up my speed and base miles was that the ligaments in my knees started complaining the strain from pushing 280 pounds up above 15 MPH for multiple hours. That was one of the reasons my surgeon fast tracked me, I wanted to be healed before biking season begins this year. -
Getting exercise in when it's cold

I prop my laptop on my treadmill and get engrossed in a game, before you know it an hour has passed. -

Terry Poperszky replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in Fitness & Exercise
2muchfun, The best thing I ever did was to have my knees replaced, I only wish I had done it sooner rather than deal with the pain and lack of mobility. I let my right knee goes so long that I wore a groove in the top of the bottom bone. -
Did anyone make their own broth during the liquid phase?
Terry Poperszky posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I hate the taste of the canned broth in the market, so I was thinking of making my own. -
