Is Soda Bad Once In A While?
Terry Poperszky replied to kittylove32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gave up diet coke the day I started my pre-op diet. Wasn't unusual to have 10 cans a day, hasn't been a problem. Now when summer hits, then it will hurt -
choosing chicken or beef broths!
Terry Poperszky replied to kathyhall's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might try making your own. I can't stand the pre--prepared stuff, so I made a big pot of chicken broth that really helped me through the liquid stage. -
Day two and my stomach is killing me!

Welcome to the Journey Dan. You may want to start a separate thread to introduce your self rather than tacking on to an older one. -
And? Nothing says you can't drink wine when you are banded. Just remember, calories.

any one work early
Terry Poperszky replied to brannewmee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My work day starts at 6:30 am. I start with a 8 oz glass of skim milk first thing when I get up. I then have 16 oz of coffee (Black)on the 35 minute drive to work. Once I hit my desk I have a protein shake, about 10:00 I have a yopliat greek yogurt and eat lunch at noon. I am thinking of adding some cream of wheat or oatmeal in there somewhere, because I need more calories. -
As soon as I start any calorie restriction, my body starts to feel cold. Been that way for years, just throw on some extra layers.

You can do it! -
On one of the pre-band posts, the person said they were afraid to loose their love of food. Two weeks post band, I am happy to say that while my hunger is gone, I have a new freedom to express my love of food. Before my love of food was over shadowed by my love of eating (two entirely different things. Now, with only eating a 1/2 cup with meals, I am making sure that 1/2 cup is the best it possibly can be. In fact, my wife has complained, that what I am eating tastes better, than what the family is being served so I took pity on her and I currently have a large crock pot of Chili Verde that has been simmering all afternoon, my family will eat it over rice, I will eat it alone. Two often, I believe that we confuse quantity with quality.

She walked into the kitchen while I was making my "pureed" dinner and said "Even when you have to puree something, it is still fancy" I had mixed refried Beans, Anaheim chili peppers, plain greek yogurt, Wisconsin cheddar cheese powder and taco seasoning together and pureed it with my hand blender. But she didn't complain too much since I made chili and cornbread for her and the girls.

Did anyone postpone Lap Band after everything?
Terry Poperszky replied to makeyourself's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been fat since I was very young, I am 57 years old now. For me to even consider WLS was an admission of total defeat in being able to do it any other way, so going back simply wasn't an option. -

Sorry to wear these boards out with posts

Two thought occur to me. 1. Was your husband present? After he pressured you into telling, please don't tell me he didn't stand up for you and tell them to sit down and shut up. 2. Why did you let them? It is a false since of politeness that has you stand by and let other people be rude to you. A simple, "thank you, but I have done all the research and this is my decision. Shall we talk about something else, or do you have to leave now" works just fine. -
Pre-surgery: What great things does the future hold?
Terry Poperszky replied to ATXVeg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, I want to be able to finish this ride. I tried to train for it last year, but I just couldn't push my bulk fast enough, forlong enough to do it. My only concern is that I won't be able to lose the weight and train at the same time. So, if not this year, then next. http://www.skinnytireevents.com/page.cfm?pageid=20054 -

Sooo I'm finally seeking help with my weight issues
Terry Poperszky replied to PrettyGirlJey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm sorry, who long did what take? If you are talking about the approval process, I am self pay. I attended the seminar on December 20th, and sub-mitted my paperwork the next day, was approved by the surgeon on the 26th, had my pre-op class on the 28th (where I started my pre-op diet), met with the surgeon for the second time on the 4th (first time was the seminar) had the surgery on the 7th. Yes it was fast, but I did a tremendous amount of research. I brought my wife (She is a detail person and I needed her council) with me to the pre-op class and the pre-op meeting, and of course she was with me the day of surgery, I bought the big lap band book that is advertised on this site, and I spoke with my primary care physician as well. My insurance carrier did offer wls with a 12 month Dr. supervised diet (which they don't cover). As I pointed out to my wife, if I could stay on a strict diet for 12 months, I wouldn't need the surgery. -

I am 57 years old, and I got banded two weeks ago. In December my bubble burst, and I finally admitted that I couldn't do it. Keep the faith, there is hope. -
OMG, OMG too much and too fast

No, you aren't alone. -
I'm another member of the clean plate club. Both of my girls are being raised with "if you are hungry, eat. If you're not, don't". They have been taught to take small portions first, and then get more if they are still hungry. A lot cheaper to throw a little food away than deal with the emotional and physical damage of obesity.

I personally am looking into converting my car to run off of methane, although I haven't worked out capture system quite yet.

Anyone try not weighing themselves?
Terry Poperszky replied to willowcat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Depends. Right now I weigh myself every morning. From times past, I know that as this new life style becomes less novel I will switch to twice a week. During longer plateaus I will give the scale to my wife and tell her to only give it to me once a week. When I plateau, the number never changing starts to frustrate me, and then I start to wonder why I am doing this when I am showing no results. so it is banished. So, the answer is "It depends", the scale is a tool, when it stops being a useful tool I don't use it for a while. -
Not a complaint. I am 8 days post op and for during the pre-op diet and 4 days post op the scale went down every day (21 pounds total). Last four days? Nothing. 271.6. Now before everyone rushes to tell me it's ok, and natural and to not get discouraged. Don't worry, I have been dieting on and off since I was a pre-teen, I know, I'm not. The problem is that for those of us who are strict believers in the burn more calories than you eat to lose weight, we need to remember that this formula only works over a long period of time, and is not a daily equation. I have a BMR of 2700, I have been consuming about 1000 calories on average over the last 4 days, that gives me a deficit of 1700 a day, or basically a pound every other day. Unfortunately sometimes, my body sucks at math and I won't lose anything for weeks and the drop it 5 or 6 pounds in a week. Or it will stall and then I will start loosing weight at the normal rate again. And everything that I have read on this forum, and my own much limited experience says that the band does not change that fact. I need to be realistic about what the band will and won't do. Frankly, if I could I could stay where I am in right now in relationship to the band I would, very little hunger, a hard time getting my calories in, but I won't as I heal as I lose weight, when I start to get fills, it will change and so will I. But I need to stay realistic and understand what I can control, and what I can't control. Peace

WOULD SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL MY STUPID BAND...
Terry Poperszky replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am the management and it is my observation that we are worse on taking breaks than most of the people who work for us. But there are always ways. I had a vendor call ask to take me out to lunch so we could discuss purchases for the year, instead I suggested that we meet for coffee. I actually enjoyed it more than our normal lunches, and I wasn't in a food coma for the rest of the day. I agree with you that sandwiches are going to be a problem, so I have ordered some chop sticks off of Amazon and when I reach solid foods I will just precut everything so that I can still eat at my desk. Even thinking about sealing lunch size portions into vacuum seal pouches so I can just grab one in the morning and not have to worry about the hassle of fixing it then.
