Ok, should not have clicked on that link while I was eating Breakfast. Waste of a perfectly good meal. -
I couldn't agree more. One of the things that I am having to do is relearn what hunger actually is.

B-52, I think that some of the problem is that the Calories in vs. out is not instantaneous as we expect a math problem to be. When we step on the scale, we aren't measuring fat, we are measuring total body weight and we can't see what is really happening. So we start looking for reasons for why this isn't happening. Personally, if my body was going to go into starvation mode, this last month would have sent it there big time. But I have kept moving, logged my food and except for one week where nothing moved, I have watched the scale go down every other day.

Tomorrow's the big day for me!!!

Your journey starts. Take it one day at a time, follow your Dr.'s instructions and you will do fine. -

I want to participate in this ride, this fall. http://www.skinnytireevents.com/page.cfm?pageid=20063 To do it, I am going to have to train like crazy, starting with a spin class 3 times a week. My problem is I don't know what I will be capable of with the reduced calorie intake from being banded. Now, I know I will be able to do this next year, if not this. BUT I do not want to set myself up for failure on a goal that is unobtainable. So, does anyone have any experience being newly banded and training for an extreme sporting event? BTW, the Dr. doesn't have any objections from a surgical standpoint.

Journey Begins
Terry Poperszky replied to bjacobson44's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Focus on the surgery date, keep telling yourself that the pre-op diet is not forever, but only for a limited time. You will be surprised how much easier it becomes when you have a goal in front of you. -
Willow as I start spin class and then road biking I have already come to the conclusion that I am going to have to start getting my calories in liquid form during and after exercise. I got behind last night, and Mistress Band was really firm about how fast she would let me get calories in today and my body wasn't happy about it. Funny thing is, I still wasn't stomach hungry, but boy I sure could tell that I had crossed a line. I had a second Protein shake on the way home from work, and I am currently eating eggs florentine to get even more protein. This is going to work, I am just going to have to fine tune it. BTW, in biking the ultra sports are the guys who race. I will can easily burn 6-700 calories an hour in my work outs. They will burn over a 1000. Last year I attended a race that they went up at 12 miles an hour, which frankly I didn't think was humanly possible because of the steep grade. That day, they did 135 miles, in 100+ temps and 3000 foot elevation gains. And that was the easiest day of a 6 day race.

It's the one month milestone of my Lap Band journey.
Terry Poperszky posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I started my pre-op diet one month ago today (banded 1/7/13 )and I am down 30 pounds, I have lost a a shirt size and two pants sizes and have not been happier since I married my beautiful wife almost 15 years ago. -
Well, I think I have answered my own question. After 90 minutes of heavy physical labor clearing snow my body is screaming for nourishment and I simply can't get enough past Mistress Band quickly enough. I will catch up eventually, but I do not think I can do this on a regular basis. So, I will need to wait until more of my weight is off before attempting a century.

How do you get enough protein?
Terry Poperszky replied to stephgfl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is the fun part, my Dr. pretty much told me to get used to starting the day with Protein shakes since the band is normally tighter in the mornings. All of his staff are banded, and they all drink them in the morning. With this said, I am in the mushie phase and I got 102 grams of protein yesterday from eggs, cottage cheese, skim milk and chile verde (pork). And no, I am not a veteran but it isn't going to be that hard on solids -

If you are on full liquids, than protein shakes are the answer. -

Just burned 550+ calories....

I still don't understand my body and why it does the things it does. I have slowly been building up my daily calories as I work through the mushie stage, my goal is 1300 a day. Well for some reason yesterday I just had the urge to graze, and the only way I kept my net calories at 1300 was to exercise. I wanted to eat all day long. Now today, I am having a hard time getting down 900 calories, I simply have not been hungry all day long. Add 550 calories of exercise on top and MFP is going to yell at me Same foods, no emotional upsets, but my body is behaving totally different. It will be interesting to step on the scale tomorrow morning and see what other surprises my body has in store for me. This is one of the reason that while I am a firm believer in the burn more calories than you consume weight loss formula, I also believe that this is a "big picture" paradigm and only really works over the long term.

Tell me about it, I drove past the MUP that I usually train on and it had a good 6 inches of snow and it was still coming down. -
Energy on Pre op Diet~
Terry Poperszky replied to Spaness2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During pre-op and after being banded, I had a lot of nervous energy, but the energy didn't have a lot of depth, so was quickly expended. -

Lapband and that time of the month??
Terry Poperszky replied to Tina Ramirez's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks Maddy, oh and while I do not know everything about women, you don't know my beautiful wife and if you think she waits until she has PMS to speak her mind, you need to think again. -
Does anyone get deep tissue massages?
Terry Poperszky replied to hopeful_janna's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had one since being banded, but I do get them regularly and I have a hard time imagining that there will be a problem. My port at least is simply not that sensitive. -

Well, I am glad you clarified that you only want to know how the women on the board handle their periods. I am sure that the men on the board have totally different techniques... Sorry Tina, I just couldn't resist.
