I couldn't agree more, our "Microwave" culture sets us up to view "slow and steady" as a failure rather than a success.

I Feel Like I'm In Limbo....
Terry Poperszky commented on Shelleymb's blog entry in Shelleymb's Blog
Just like when you were a kid waiting for Christmas...focus on the prize, practice the habits that will make you successful and when you are finally banded it will be that much easier. -
What helped me in the mornings is I would pour myself an 8 oz glass of skim milk and sip it while making coffee and fixing my lunch. It was light, it would get some protein into my system immediately and overall got me past some of my morning issues.

Great, I go on solids this week and I have been looking for some good fish recipes. Thanks.

Listening to Mistress Band.
Terry Poperszky commented on Terry Poperszky's blog entry in Terry Poperszky's Blog
Thanks Missy, I am more comfortable with the spoke word, than the written. I have been fat all my life, and the LB is a concept that I refused to even consider, so now that I have one, I need to find a way to use it to look at my life in a new way, Mistress Band is the person who is helping me do that. The humor for me is a reminder to not take myself too seriously, and a hint to others, that they may want to follow suite. BTW, just want you know how inspiring your journey is to me. You and several others on this board give me hope that one day I can succeed as well. -
I packed my normal breakfast of a Protein shake and a some steel cut oats, and drank my shake when I got to my desk. a couple of hours later I was hungry again and pulled my oatmeal out. Then Mistress Band spoke, "I'm not eating that stuff, get me some more protein!" So down to the cafeteria for a couple for eggs and hash browns, threw 3/4 of the hash browns away, and Mistress Band is now one happy camper. When I woke up this morning, I was feeling pretty lethargic, I knew I had been doing a lot of physical labor on 1300 calories a day with the constant snow fall here, but I thought I had been allowing for that. My body disagreed, and a real part of my journey is learning to listen to my band and my body. Food for thought.

I started the treadmill 3 days after surgery.

Considering the "Advise of Others"

Humor, try a little. As to whether you thought my comments were necessary, that is meaningless. I thought for myself and made my own choice. Have a nice day... -

The quote at the bottom of your signature should be attributed to Yoda, who was a character in the movie Star Wars. -
heart rate monitor vs. arm band?
Terry Poperszky replied to ShirleyJ84's topic in Fitness & Exercise
They do two different things. A HRM measures your heart rate over a specific period time. I use a Garmin model that also will measure steps, cadence, elevation, record tracks and give me a fairly accurate estimate of calories burned. My wife likes to kid me that "if I don't have my garmin on, then the exercise doesn't count. I can track my exertion levels on the same course to give me objective evidence that my fitness level is improving. I have a record of every ride and hike I have taken in the last couple of years. The body monitors on the other hand are supposed to be worn all day long and to give you an idea of how active you are. I wouldn't know how accurate tehy are since they don't measure heart rate and so they don't take into account how hard what you doing is. I actually see the body monitors working together with a good HRM to give you both big picture and detailed picture of your activity. -
Talk to your surgeon, tell him the symptoms, tell him you are very concerned. Then ask for the options.

Ummm.... same reason only eat 1/2 cup per meal, I don't like pain and throwing up. I sip water because Mistress Band gets out the stiletto heels if I don't

Low Calorie intake Is it healthy??
Terry Poperszky replied to Creekwood's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my pre-op diet was 800 - 960 based on a 40 BMI. Once banded I tried to work my way up to 1200. My NUT said that not to focus calories, but portion control. With that said she also told me based on my body type that I should be in a 1300 - 1500 range, and to add a 4th 1/2 cup meal to the 3 that I was already doing. I have been shooting for the 1300 figure, and doing pretty well on that. -
why did you choose the band? How much weight did you lose?
Terry Poperszky replied to rockdutchess82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto what Missy said. Banded on 1/7/13 and I have lost 30 pounds and feel great. the LB isn't for everyone, but it is for me. -
How much preop weight did you lose?
Terry Poperszky replied to wozzicat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are allergic to the shakes, don't suffer in silence go back to your Dr. and tell him. I am sure you aren't first, and you are going to be using added protein for awhile after your surgery. -

Terry Poperszky replied to wozzicat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You lost 6 pounds in the first 5 days and you think "It makes me wonder if everything is going to be a failure. I do everything I'm supposed to do and nothing happens."??? Maam, I don't know you, but I am not sure what you expected but I would really examine your mindset going into this surgery. The band is a tool, but it isn't a miracle cure for being fat. This is going to be a long, hard journey. -

Terry Poperszky replied to wozzicat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And what day are you on? Most diet have high weight loss early on because you are changing the amount of sodium which then dumps a bunch of water. And different people loose differently, this may sound strange, but I only usually only loose weight every other day, very seldom 2 days in a row. -
I am new to this forum and to forums all together! LBS scheduled for Feb

Welcome and congrats. By the way, pre-op diet was worse than post-op recovery. I was banded on the 7th of January and I am loving every minute of it. -

It seems like every Dr. has a different pre-op diet (tell us what yours is), and weight loss is highly individual. I lost 14 pounds pre-op. -
WARNING::: Girl Scout Cookie Time ;-(
Terry Poperszky replied to 2muchfun's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A co-worker approached me the other day selling for his daughter. I simply stared at him and said, "you know I just had weight loss surgery and as of today I have lost 30 pounds, and you are trying to sell me Girl Scout cookies?" The conversation ended there.
