Mistress Band, the Dominatrix
-
The band was my option of last resort, I WW, exercise and phentermine were no longer keeping the weight at bay. I was back up to 299, and I had sworn to myself I would never see my weight start with a "3" again. Why the band? I have a real bias against re-routing my plumbing. The complication rate was one tenth of the more drastic surgeries. And the most important part, I was chasing something that had happened to me when I first started taking phentermine. One meal, I pushed away a half eaten plate of food, because I simply wasn't hungry any more, the first time in my life that had ever happened. So far Mistress Band has been more than I could have dreamt, I am 4 weeks out and I may never need a fill, based on how I feel about food right now. I know that may change, but I want to go out on the front step of my house and scream at the top of my lungs "I AM NOT HUNGRY!" This is what I have been searching for all my life in my relationship to food. Based on what I have read I truly don't think that the Dr.s understand the mechanism, but I don't care. It works for me.

I took Mistress Band out for Indian tonight...
Terry Poperszky posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
to celebrate my first full day of solid food! The family tagged along and I had 1/2 a cup of Chicken Vindaloo, rice and naan bread. I firmly believe there will be Indian food in heaven. Mistress Band kept my love of eating in submission (her specialty), so I could concentrate on my love of food. I honestly believe that I spent most of the meal with my eyes closed concentrating on the flavors. -

Yup, she likes Indian food as much as I do. Go figure... -
Plication is where they fold the stomach in on itself and then so it to hold that shape. I had a partial plication, but my Dr. does it to help prevent slippage. Here is a link to a good explanation. https://weightloss.clevelandclinic.org/gastricplication.aspx

2days post op and feeling full?
Terry Poperszky replied to dolphintattoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 days post op and eating oatmeal? WOW, I was having trouble getting clear liquids down at that point, didn't even attempt skim milk until day 4. What type of post op diet does your Dr. have you on? -
This is a really bad habit for me, so right now I use chopsticks and an phone app called "eat slower" depending on what I am eating, I go 1 minute between bites, with 30 seconds of chewing time. Although with the chopsticks soup is a real pain.

Has anyone ever changed Docs in the pre op phase?
Terry Poperszky replied to Mamoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't change, but I want to echo the importance of the staff. I have seen my surgeon 3 times, and if everything goes well I may not see him again for months. But my LB nurse is the one who does my classes and fills. On our pre-op visit she gave me her cell phone and told me to call it 24X7 if I ever have a problem or concern. She said if there was a problem, we wouldn't have to wait for normal business hours, but either she or the Dr. would meet us at the office when ever it was needed. You have no idea how much better that made my wife and I feel. -

Blended soups. Blended Chili, thinned refried beans -
Getting past the mindset that "if other people don't see me eat, then those calories don't count" is probably going to be one of the hardest hurdles for me. Good job

I Corinthians 10:13 ESV 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it I have seen a common theme in the posts of new banders, and it is "I don't know if I can do this, what if I fail?" This where the I draw solace from the stories of our veterans, successful or not. I know that I am not going into uncharted territory, that someone has been there before me, faced the same issues as I will and they were successful, and if they were successful, I can be as well. It is also one of the reasons that I answer the posts that I do, not because I have all the answers (or really, any of them), but it is just to let people know that they aren't alone, that yes it sucks right now, but there is an end to it and they need to focus on their goal, they too can reach the other side. Oh, and the verse also speaks to the care and control that God exercises in our lives, but that is a topic for a different blog
-
You bet it is! But you can do it. Focus not on how much you are eating today, but on your goal of getting a tool that will help you for the rest of your life. Others have done it, so can you.

Banded 1/7/13, 1/2 cup at a time is all Mistress Band will allow me to eat. Lasts me 3-4 hours easy. I was worried that I wasn't getting enough calories, so my NUT told me not to eat more at one time, but to add a 4th 1/2 cup meal, which is working quite well for me. Everyone is different.

What did your doc suggest as a goal weight?
Terry Poperszky replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
60% of my excess weight which would put me at 215, but is not my stopping point, it is simply the average for his patients. Once I reach that we will re-evaluate and set another goal. The charts say my top weight should be 184, which is probably where I will shoot for next. For me it is good to have an intermediary goal, to give me encouragement. -
I ran across a post about using baby silverware or chopsticks to help get the proper speed and bite size for bandsters. So I decided to try it out. This morning's breakfast consists of 2 scrambled eggs, 1 cup of spinach and 1 Tyson reduced fat sausage patty. I cut the spinach and sausage to the proper size, dumped that and the eggs into a microwavable container, and when I got to work this morning microwaved it for a couple of minutes. I am now sitting at my desk with the chopsticks I bought off of Amazon, eating breakfast, and it is working well. The chopsticks slow me down and force me to take small bites and I don't feel nearly as silly as I would with a baby fork or spoon. That and the sticks are much easier to clean.

Not the piano tune either.....
Terry Poperszky commented on Terry Poperszky's blog entry in Terry Poperszky's Blog
For yogurt (and such) I simply dip my normal spoon in and then lick it off. I find that takes quite a while -
Repaired during lap band, no more heartburn

Now of course you will need to clear these ideas with your own band, but so far Mistress Band has given her approval. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/19/recipes-for-breakfast-recipes-healthy-breakfast_n_2480222.html#slide=more274896

Everything Happens for a Reason
Terry Poperszky replied to winkie80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two things from a Male perspective: 1. Don't wear it during sex. 2. You drastically under estimate the power of the Male sex drive -
Great job, I can't wait to see that on my scale.
