A good HRM is worth it's weight in gold when it comes to tracking your exercise, not only does a GOOD one give you a much better estimate of actual calories burned, it allows you to see how hard you are actually working. I use it in hiking and biking to compare performance over the same course, as I become more fit then my body doesn't work as hard to accomplish the same work. My wife kids me that if I don't have my Garmin Forerunner on then as far as I am concerned I didn't really exercise. Look at the Polar and Garmin models.

Remember, there is a gas and there there is a gas. Yes, the CO2 causes the initial pain, but for what ever reason the surgery turns you into one mean flatulist.

My Body Once Again Reminds Me Who Is In Charge....
Terry Poperszky commented on Terry Poperszky's blog entry in Terry Poperszky's Blog
Thanks MsMaul, I started the downward trend again this morning. Yup, this is a normal part of the journey, but even for those of us who know this, for those of us who have been dieting all of our lives, there is a hint of fear every time that scale stops moving even for a couple of days. -
My Body Once Again Reminds Me Who Is In Charge....
Terry Poperszky posted a blog entry in Terry Poperszky's Blog
Moved to solid foods on Friday, not only have Mistress Band and I not been on the best of terms since then, my weight loss stopped. This is why when we talk about calories in versus calories out, we always need to look at the big picture rather than the daily total. Once my body gets used to what I am feeding it, the loss will start up again. Until then I just need to concentrate on making sure that I am eating what and how much I am supposed to, getting my water and exercise in. On the plus side, I had my first spin class yesterday and survived. -
This is how normal people do it...

Frustrate me? Nope, I am happy that she doesn't share the same addiction to food that I do, plus she has never seen me as fat or judged me because of my weight. As for eating normally, at this point in my journey, I am not sure what that even means. -
Nope. 2 reasons, 1. My friends have manners. 2. Those people who know me, but can't be counted as friends have manners as well. For anyone else, that is a mistake that they would only make once. A simple "Thank you for your concern, but I feel I have a good hand on what I am supposed to eat" would be sufficient. Although I like Missy's answer as well.

Anyone out there? Still figuring it out 3 yrs post surgery..

Congratulations on your loss, but I have to wonder why you haven't talked to your Dr.s. Personally, they would have been my first call. -
Long term concerns
Terry Poperszky replied to Want2behealthy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have had two knee replacements because of my weight, while I am not experiencing problems now, chances are my hips would be next. Either of those surgeries carry infinitely more risk than my band (if I am follow the rules). That doesn't even address the other factors like Heart Disease, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, etc. that my weight was putting me at risk for. Loosing weight was not simply something that would be nice to do, it allows me to live longer with a higher quality of life, for me it was a simple risk versus benefit analysis. An extremely easy decision. -
These were staples for me over my years of dieting, so much so that the thought of eating another one makes me physically ill. So, if I don't have left overs to take with me (and I always do), I will do a Taco bell refried beans or something similar.

Adjusting calories for work outs?
Terry Poperszky replied to sp1587's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Everyone is different, I shoot for 1300 calories a day and I have a BMR of 2600, which according to what B-52 said (and I generally agree) gives me a 2.6 pound loss (I am actually experiencing almost 4 pounds a week). I also exercise, some days I eat the calories, some days I don't, I don't have a rule, I just try and listen to my body hunger and give it what it needs. -
Yes. My NUT doesn't want me to focus on it, but I still log everything i eat.

It is beautiful! Ok CG, I am telling my wife this is your fault, I just emailed my artist what I wanted on my calf. I waited 57 years to get my first one, and by the time I retire I am going to end up looking like the illustrated man.

Left shoulder, intertwined hearts, my 3 life verses under that. I was in the process of getting a half sleeve, but I stopped until after my weight loss so that it isn't distorted. I am planing on a nail cross for my right calf. If you check out my gallery you can see them.

CG, he was talking about missing beer, not that stuff.

I did one of my favorite fast food joints, but it wasn't a big meal. I just ordered my favorites, I couldn't see the sense on gorging myself only to starve the next day.

9 Days Post Op - Hungry and Can Eat Much More than 2-3ozs?
Terry Poperszky replied to Nate A Erickson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jaye, IMHO, I have to disagree with you. I am not judging Nathan, but trying to eat so much that your band forces you to vomit is irresponsible and dangerous. Whether it is through a lack of knowledge or a lack of education does not make much difference. It is the one that that my surgeon stressed above all else and he gave me powerful drugs to make sure that it wouldn't happen. One of the things that I value above all else on this forum, is the brutally honest feedback that people who have gone before me offer on a regular basis. Would I always answer as they do? Absolutely not. But I would rather have those types of answers if I am engaging in behavior with my band that endangers my health in that way. -
Mistress Band is really pissed off about something...
Terry Poperszky posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm not sure, but I think she was jealous of the attention some women in costco where paying to me, as I did my shopping women kept stopping me and giving me food. Honest Mistress Band, I didn't even know those women, and they don't mean anything to me, please put the heels away, it is only you and my wife, I promise! -
I want to cry :(
Terry Poperszky replied to Sophiasmommy1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The reason that people do this is because they think they can get away with it. Rudeness of this nature should not be tolerated! It should be faced head on and shoved back down the other persons throat IMHO. Now, get revenge, complete your diet, get your band and lose the weight!
