I had my surgery a little over 2 months ago
Terry Poperszky replied to dstokes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, banded on 1/7 and currently stalled for two weeks. Totally normal according to my past experience and my Dr. Review that you are following the rules and be patient. -
Drinking by meals ? Solid Versus Liquid -- Satiety Study in Well-Adjusted Lap-Band Patients
Terry Poperszky replied to Alex Brecher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"Despite the common use of LAGB, the mechanism that generates early satiation, prolonged satiety and sustained weight loss is poorly understood, but insight is emerging. It has been demonstrated that the passage of food through the banded area and gastric emptying is not substantially delayed and cannot account for the prolonged satiety" "Care must be taken to ensure that patients understand that a drink with their meal is not going to reduce their satiety; however, the difference between this and maladaptive eating behaviours such as drinking large volumes of Fluid in order to ‘flush’ moist foods through the band must be emphasized. This study used a solid and dense Meal Replacement with 250 ml of Water only. This could be applied to a solid Breakfast meal and a cup of black tea for example." These are the two most important points that I gleaned from the study: 1. We really don't understand why the band works. 2. Acceptable drinking habits are easily confused with unacceptable drinking habits. -
Somebody want to explain this too me?

Anything is possible, but the conventional wisdom is that the pouch would have emptied itself after two hours. -
Yay for me today

Way to go! -
The Internet is also a source of tremendous mis-information. WW has the highest success rate of any diet plan on the market, and since nutrition is more than tracking calories an app may not be enough. WW took me from 324 to 250, unfortunately like the band it requires a lifestyle change, and when you go back to old habits, you gain the weight back, just like with the band. Given that I see posts about newly banded people on the forum sucking down foot long subs, eating deep fried cheese as a mushie and counseling others to mix food and drink, I have my doubts about the nutritional IQ of our banded brethren. But that is just my personal opinion, and your mileage may vary.

WW will give you an excellent foundation in nutrition. If that is what you are looking for I would recommend it.

Nope, canceled Cable several year ago. Took the antenna off the roof when I moved in 12 years.

Ummm... Did you realize there is a direct correlation between the amount of TV you watch and how over weight you are?

Why am I so scared to not eat?
Terry Poperszky replied to CM77539's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
These are two different things, with the band it will help free you of your love of eating so that you can truly indulge your love of food. At least that has been my personal experience. -
Ok, Rode hard yesterday and planned on taking it easy in Spin Class today, not so much, Spin Instructor and I got a little competitive, and I am now limping from a pulled calf muscle. That's ok, I went in there on empty, dug deep and at least kept up with him.

Ok, I put aside my vanity and wore my baggy cool weather gear and went out for a ride. 47 degrees, but not a bad way to burn 672 calories in 50 minutes. The part that is really an NSV? While it isn't my fastest time, it is less than a 1/2 MPH off of my fastest and I haven't been on my bike since October of last year when I was 35 pounds heavier than I am now. I definitely noticed that the hills didn't seem as steep, and I didn't seem out of breath. Several weeks of spin class can take some credit, but the weight loss is the real champion. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/282936239

Dream, dream, dream..........
Terry Poperszky replied to NJHAZMAT's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
No, these dreams are not normal and are indicative of a severe psychological disturbance. I suggest you immediately remove all the sharp objects from you house, lock all the doors and windows. Then coat all of the inside walls with industrial grade tin foil. If after all of that, you still have the dreams, please seek professional help. -
How do you prepare tuna?

Anything an absolute no?
Terry Poperszky replied to Alig02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you ask? -
I want to live in Oz during the Winter! I am definitely sick of the cold and snow in Utah this year, although it could be worse. I am just looking forward to hitting the hiking and biking trails.

Not true! You just have to chew the glass into very small pieces. -

Surgery Thursday, liquid diet and cold feet.
Terry Poperszky replied to Lionbird's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, it is a lifestyle change. ANYTHING THAT CAUSES YOU TO STOP BEING FAT IS A LIFESTYLE CHANGE OR YOU WOULD STAY FAT! -
Surgery Thursday, liquid diet and cold feet.
Terry Poperszky replied to Lionbird's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Deep breaths, deep breaths. Now: 1. Which is better for you? Loosing the 15 pounds in 2 weeks, or keeping 15 pounds of fat on you for the rest of your life? 2. Don't eat as much, exercise: If you could do it, you wouldn't be fat would you? 3. Which is more negative for your family? You a normal weight or you dead from the diseases that accompany being morbidly obese for the rest of your shortened life. You are 6 inches shorter than I am, and started out 15 pounds heavier. I know what how my fat has affected me, 2 artificial knees, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. I can only imagine what it must be like for you. I am two months on the other side of surgery, if I didn't lose another pound THE SURGERY WAS WORTH THE QUALITY OF LIFE THAT I NOW HAVE!. But I am going to lose more, and it is going to get better. Question is, do you want to stay where you are now, or do you want to join the other bandsters in a better life? -
Actually, I conned my family into giving me my BD present a few days early, my bike has a new computer (Garmin 510) which integrates with my iPhone to upload the data to garmin connect, as well as the garmin connect app. One of the nice things that I really like is that it records temp and shows that information as part of the ride. I am really anal about keeping objective stats concerning exercise, and there have been a few times when I chose not to exercise because the battery on my garmin HRM was dead.

Just going through my cycling clothes since it looks like it is going to be warm enough to ride this weekend. My spandex bibs and shorts have enough stretch that they will still work, but man the cycling jersey's are definitely not form fitting any more. I don't mind buying regular clothes as I shrink, but man this stuff is expensive! Well time to shave my legs so the I am not completely ostracized by the other riders.

The stigma of Cosmetic Surgery
Terry Poperszky replied to Pastor Chuck Cody's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
We could call it plastic surgery, but that is just as bad IMHO. Personally, I think we worry too much about labels, I have started a savings CD to pay for my excess skin removal when that time comes, regardless of physical health concerns, many feel they need it to address mental health concerns. BTW, here is something that I find useful upon occasion when my moobs aren't as perky as they once were https://www.instaslimshirts.com/?x=bab
