Sooooooo....... I went to the Doctor yesterday.............
Terry Poperszky replied to NJHAZMAT's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
One word: "Chicken thighs" and stay away from the crockpot, if you want them slow cooked, look up something called sous vide. -
is that it makes me hungry, and not just on the day that I exercise. Ate more calories than I intended at lunch, and I am at least a couple hundred in the red tonight. So my current fix is a large glass of crystal light and a small bowl of pickled cucumbers and onions. Thank God I am married, I think I find my sweetie and give her a big kiss BTW if you interested in the recipe Slice a large cucumber ( I prefer the english variety so I don't have to peel it) Thin slices of onion, I prefer red (bermuda) onions, but all I had in the fridge was a yellow Toss of a couple of tablespoons of sugar (or artificial sweetener if you use it) pour enough red wine vinegar (I grew up with cider vinegar, but I prefer the red wine) to get everything wet. Tomato wedges are good, but didn't have any Put in as sealed container shake real good to mix things up and put it in the fridge and turn it every once in a while, the longer the better. Nutritional information? Haven't a clue.

How Do You Make a Smoothie?
Terry Poperszky replied to blondegal_'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This my preferred morning Breakfast 1 cup skim milk 1 premier Protein shake 1 cup frozen strawberries 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup. I blend the milk, frozen strawberries and the chocolate syrup on the lowest blender setting, then add in the Protein Shake. It is like a chocolate malt for breakfast. I find that blending it on high, or for too long incorporates too much air in the mixture. -

What to realistically expect?
Terry Poperszky replied to jackj's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Expect your journey to be extremely individual and don't compare your self with others. Maximum results? Follow your Dr.s instructions to the letter and don't cheat. -
Metamucil stuck in band... WTF!
Terry Poperszky replied to aeromech's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr. told me non-jelling fiber. I use a gummi fiber that I get from Costco. -
Try a more impartial source http://ndb.nal.usda.gov I see a wide variation in nutritional information on MFP.
-
First off, first fills rarely produce restriction. Secondly, the only way you would stretch your stoma is by eating too fast, eating the wrong foods, not chewing thoroughly or eating more than you are supposed to. Are you doing any of these things? Are you following your Dr's instructions?

Still on the Fence Should I take the jump?
Terry Poperszky replied to cjd3161's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And you can read the same thing on the other WLS (Sleeve, GB) forums as well, failure to change your lifestyle after WLS is definitely not a band specific failing. Just ask my co-worker's wife who still goes through dumping 2 or three times a week. -
CVS Requiring Workers To Disclose Weight
Terry Poperszky replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Our company does this, but it is voluntary. They give us a significant discount on our premium if we participate in the program, and the information is protected by HIPA from anyone other than health personnel. -
I can't speak for your support group, mine is fairly full. But as far as band complications and failures, feel free to browse some sleeve and GB sites, you will see just as many complaints there and complications listed there that will have you loving any problems your band may give you. I saw one person the other night complaining that her band failed her and now her sleeve was failing her, I wonder why? I saw another person complaining that they had lost 100 pounds and now have gained it all back. Personally, I think there are fads in surgery just like there are in other aspects of medicine, the sleeve is the new fad. But each WLS has it's own benefits and risks. I had an out of town surgeon suggest the sleeve to me, not based on what was best for me, but based on the fact that I wouldn't have to worry about trying to find a fill Dr. As far as I was concerned, his motivation was money and not my health.

This will be my last tattoo until I finish loosing my weight and my skin stabilizes, then I will go back to working on my sleeve. This is on my left calf, and hurt like hell

"The simple fact remains that the divorce rate following bariatric surgery is high. However, if the person was overweight or obese when the relationship or marriage began, the chances of that relationship or marriage ending within two years after the surgery is 80 to 85 percent." http://www.healthcen...ar-necessarily/ Like I said before, my marriage won't be one of the failures, because I will do everything in my power to prevent it.
-
Face it Missy, we are not here because we are the most well adjusted individuals on the planet, just looking at the daily posts proves that. But if I remember correctly, the divorce rate for WLS patients is 85%, just because 15% don't divorce doesn't negate the dangers. Please remember, that I am not being fatalistic, but simply saying that there are dangers and we need to be aware, and prepare for them. Believe me, what I have with my wife is something I would give my life to not lose, so guarding against the possibility doesn't seem like that high of a price.

I believe that if you have a strong relationship and you keep investing in that relationship, it will stay strong. Don't ever take what you have for granted...

The studies show that there is a substantially higher divorce rate among WLS patients. I believe that WLS is a symptom, and not the cause. From a layperson perspective I can think of a couple of different reasons. 1. The couple have built up maladaptive relationship issues that revolve around the weight. Same reason some spouses sabotage their mate's weight loss effort. 2. The fat person in the relationship feels that for they are now desirable and the temptations that accompany those feeling prove to be too much for them. Now there will be a spate of people crying "NOT MY MARRIAGE". IMHO, if you don't want it to be your marriage, realize the danger, and take steps to make sure it doesn't happen to you.

3 days into Pre-op Diet, Dying w/o carbs!!!!!
Terry Poperszky replied to charlesoakes68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pop a couple of tylenol and keep moving forward. If you are really concerned that something may be wrong talk to your bariatric surgeon and the Dr. who ordered the sleep study. -
Still on the Fence Should I take the jump?
Terry Poperszky replied to cjd3161's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The surgery is only the first step in this journey, you have to be willing to make the lifestyle changes that the surgery will make easier. Personally, it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. My big fear is that I will lose it all, and then go back to the lifestyle that got me in trouble in the first place, but that fear is for the future and I am trying to take it one day at a time. -
When did you...
Terry Poperszky replied to aeromech's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The one thing that took me by surprise was that I was taking in very few calories after my banding, but didn't realize it because I felt great. Then about 3 or 4 days in, I ran out of sugar free popsicles and ran to the store to pick some up, by the time I got back to my car I was shaking with fatigue. I had to learn a whole new set of hunger signals those first couple of weeks. -
An't it funny.... How things work out.
Terry Poperszky replied to BayougirlMrsS's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yup, I survived the first round of lay offs and it is looking promising, but you can never tell. Now we are dealing with the sequestration, my wife works for the Feds and will be taking a 20% furlough for the next 6 months. Alas, God has been good to us and you take the bad with the good.
