How do you motivate yourself to exercise???
Terry Poperszky replied to sandiburn's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Ok, Brian we really need to introduce you to more nature Video games and movies are ok if you can't go outside, but they fall far short of the interesting things that a forest trail present. Isn't wonderful that we are all different? -
Could be, probably is, but without your profile filled in there really isn't much data to go by. Everyone is different, everyone looses at a different rate.

How many calories do you eat a day?
Terry Poperszky replied to HilaryInRC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
1. 1300ish - NUT recommended 13-1500 because of my height. 2. I don't watch them, but I have cut out most refined carbs. 3. Nope 4. Usually eat some, but only if I am hungry 5. Scheduled times of day -
I am traveling soon and my LB nurse warned me that high altitudes sometimes cause the restriction to tighten.

ugh! didn't track food - felt off balanced!!!

Great job on the good choices, and nothing is stopping you from logging what you remember you ate today. It won't be quite as accurate, but it is better than nothing. -
Well, I can't speak to "That Time" except that it robs my wife of any energy for at least a couple of days. But yesterday I did not want to go to spin class, until I was there, then the exercise really lifted my spirits. Hang in there, you can do it.

Well, since many of us with are tighter in the morning, my main meal is a chocolate protein shake blended with frozen strawberries, and then about 3 hours later I have a small bowl of steel cut oatmeal with a little protein powder mixed in. I just ordered some PB2 and PB2 with chocolate to try with my oatmeal. Eggs also work for me, while the don't for many other people.

Yup, I cooked a big batch before I was banded and froze it so I wouldn't have to rely on canned (Which I hate). -
What foods are mostly/always off limits now??
Terry Poperszky replied to abs6angels's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So far, the only thing that causes me a problem are pancakes. Tried them for the first time Sunday morning when my girls cooked breakfast, took two small bites and as soon as they finally made it past my band, I fixed myself a protein shake instead. -

There are averages, and then there is you. My Dr. told me what the average person looses, but then pointed to his nurse who lost all of her excess weight (Over 100 pounds), and said you decide which category you want to be in. There is no doubt in my mind where I will end up, I am a lot of things, but average has never been one of them! The problem is that the people who are happy to see you succeed when they have failed, are rare and valuable treasures.

Daily, first thing in the morning, and track it. In fact, I just bought an Aria WiFi scale that automatically logs my weight so I can't cheat. But I also have to track my calories as well. Maybe one day the lifestyle will become automatic, but it isn't now.

Yea, I pretty much looked at the couple of days after a fill as my reset time and I went back to liquids, but as the fills stop I think I will follow your example and set aside a couple of days a month just to give things a rest.

http://www.academia.edu/497061/The_Concept_of_a_Body_Fat_SetPoint Interesting article, and very pertinent in my life right now. 250 has already been a major (i.e. unreachable) goal in my weight loss journey, and it was the nail in the coffin of my 2005 WW success, I reached it and then immediately started gaining again. This time, I reached it and plateaued, after a couple of weeks started moving again and reached 246 (I felt I had successfully beat 250), then over the space of a couple of days, back up to 251, now slowly moving back down again. There is major difference in my life between the 2005 WW weight loss and my current one, it is the band. I think I am in the loose end of the green zone, fact is I think I am going to pass on more tweaking my next appointment and see what happens. No hurry, I'm in this for the long haul. Yup, I am plateaued, but I won't be here for ever. As my body and my mind deal with this major set point, my fat loss will continue. I just need to do my part and follow rules.

Fat Set Point Theory and Plateaus...
Terry Poperszky replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Exercise is a double edged sword for me Tara, I put on muscle very quickly and my appetite (even banded) goes through the roof, all of which leads to a stall on the scale. So, all of what I am doing is aerobic, with no strength training. I know I need to start that up, but I have been procrastinating. -
http://www.fitbit.com/aria Anyone using one of these? If I can get any feedback, I would appreciate it. I don't use a fitbit, but it does integrate with the MFP site which I do use.

Heck, I would pick Christie over Cheney any day, and it has nothing to do with their respective physical conditions.

1. You are healing, stop watching the weight so closely. Yea, I know it is hard not to, but really stop it. 2. Sodium, I gained 4 pounds over night during my healing phase when I had a can of chicken noodle Soup. It had more sodium in one can than I normally eat in two days. 3. See #1

Calorie Burning Tracker?
Terry Poperszky replied to ireallywannabthin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bos, take a look at this link http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/167281-how-hrms-calculate-calories-burned/ it will help you understand why some HRM are able to more accurately estimate calories burned. I am not putting down fitbit by any means, they are designed to do different things than a HRM. I only wear my HRM when I am actively exercising, and it allows me to get the most of that time by giving me an objective measurement. -
Various manufactures use various formulas, but one of the more accurate are produced by a company called First Beat, which is what my Garmin (and Sunto) uses. http://www.firstbeat.fi/physiology/heart-beat-analysis
