Maladaptive eating pattern, IMHO one step away from forcing yourself to throw up or taking high dosages of laxative. -

Self Sabotage after a loved ones death
Terry Poperszky replied to Bandedlauren's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is the scariest part of the band for me, my band continues to work only if I maintain the lifestyle choices that go along with it. I feel your pain at the loss of someone close to you, if only there was a band for our emotional eating. A couple of few suggestions. 1. You have lost approximately 65 pounds, sit down and compare your life pre-band to where you are now. Take a piece of paper out and split it have Pre-Band and Post and and list the differences in your life. Reconnect with why you chose to be banded. 2. Go back to basics, start weighing yourself, logging your foods, counting your protein and calories, tracking your measurements, visit your NUT. Sign up with a free service like My Fitness Pal and add other banders as friends (my username is poperszky). 3. Give yourself permission to grieve, but do not give yourself permission to do self-harm in the process. Would your cousin want to see you gain your weight back? -
Usually, but my LB nurse keeps pushing me toward it as a Protein source. I picked up a box of these from costco the other day and fixed them tonight. All I can say is I had a hard time not going back for seconds and my entire family loved them. I ended up baking the entire box so that I could have it for lunch all this week. High Liner - Tortilla Crusted Talapia With Chipolte & Lime,

I have a box of pacific cod in the freezer, waiting until it is warm enough to grill it.

I know better, why the heck do I open these types of threads up.

Purpose of the Complications Forum
Terry Poperszky replied to Baba Wawa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." ---Unknown Nope, don't have complications (yet), don't have any personal animosity towards MsMaui (actually like her). Nor do I really care what forum she chooses to post in, if I believe that her (or anyone's) posts are biased against the band and out of context I will speak up and give what I believe is the other side of the story. Frankly I would take the same path on someone who downplayed the risks of being banded. Personally, I don't care which WLS people choose, I made the choice for myself and they can too. But I would hate to think that I might of passed on the benefit of the band because someone only told me part of the story. She quoted a Dr. (Who did all three WLS) who said the band was the least effective. Alex put up a video clip with a Dr. (Who did all three WLS) as saying the band was the most effective and backed it up by having it installed in his own body. Neither of those Dr.s is the whole story, it is only when you hear BOTH sides do you start to understand the truth. -

I liked the comparisons of complications, 74% less than the sleeve at 30 days, and 64% at the end of 1 year. -

Dang it 2much, how many times have I told you it is Gecko People, not Geico"??? And you aren't supposed to be talking to the "normals" about this either. One day when the "Grand Iguana" rules the earth, we won't have to keep our existence a secret, but until then please take a lower profile. -

When you chose to quote this: "In my opinion, the adjustable gastric banding procedures are inferior to the alternatives available. The specifics of different surgical outcomes are outlined on the poster available on our website. Adjustable gastric banding should be considered as a last resort, if at all, as a surgical procedure for treatment of morbid obesity and its associated comorbidities. Other complications that continue to plague adjustable gastric banding include slipped band, erosion, esophageal dilatation, and the required need for frequent adjustments. " Without giving equal time to surgeons and studies that disagree, without dealing with the complications and risks that arise from those other surgeries, IMHO it stopped being about you and your complications and became a "hit job" on the band. I am not defending the band, I don't give a damn what other people choose to do with their bodies. What I am doing is opposing scare tactics and arguments that conveniently forget to give both sides of the story. You want to warn people of the complications of the band, GO FOR IT and as long as you list the complications of other WLS you will not hear a peep from me. -

Because it isn't the whole story. You posted a quote from a Dr. saying that the band was ineffective and dangerous, recommending that other forms of WLS were better. BUT you didn't, and don't mention that those surgeries have a higher complication and mortality rate than the band. Nor do you give equal time to surgeons who disagree with the Dr. you quoted. If you really want to be perceived as not being out to get the band, then you need to start giving the entire picture. I'm sorry, but your posts come off as being a "Band Hater" because of this, and based on the responses you got, this isn't only my opinion. I have seen you make some incredibly helpful posts, but your "complications" posts are simply one sided and scary to people who haven't done their research. -

People need to know the dangers of WLS, but they need to know the comparative dangers of ALL types of WLS, not just a skewed view. When I told my wife I wanted to be banded, it scared the **** out of her until she looked at the relative complication/mortality rates of the different types and pointed out that fewer people died by far from banding than the other two. -

Terry Poperszky replied to Baba Wawa's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So, the fact that other surgeries have a much higher complication/mortality rate has no bearing MsMaui? Oh look, here is a clinic that does all three types of surgeries as well http://www.trueresul...loss-surgeries. They claim that the sleeve has 3 times and GB has 4 times the complication rates of banding. That doesn't even deal with the much higher rate of people who die from those surgeries. Let's be fair shall we and stop combing the Internet and posting just what the dangers of the band are. Before you scare someone into having 3/4 of their stomach cut away, and their intestines re-routed post the dangers of those surgeries as well. I had a surgeon recommend the sleeve to me as well, know why? He was out of state and I couldn't find a Dr. who would do fills in Utah if he did the band. He didn't give a damn about what was best for me, he wanted the income from the surgery, ANY surgery. Heck, my surgeon has over a 1000 bands by now, he won't do the sleeve or GB because he objects to making major modifications to a person's body such removing major portions of their stomach. -
idiot- and stuck?

I would go back to liquids for the next 24 hours, it helps when you have irritated your band. -

My LB Nurse warned me that many people experience a tightening of their band when they fly. I just got back from a week of vacation myself and while I drove, my band did tend to be more finicky than normal.

Very confused. ...band or sleeve?
Terry Poperszky replied to \Mara/'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sorry Mara, you have to do the research and choose for your self. Some things to look at: 1. Success ratio - Average excess weight loss. 2. Complication ratio - What type, and the frequency of complications for a particular type of WLS. For instance, banders don't experience dumping or malabsorbtion, but they do experience getting "stuck". 3. Mortality rate - My wife would rather have me fat and alive, then dead and skinny. 4. Recovery time. 5. Cost Now, the problem with coming on to a bander board and asking which is better, is you are going to be talking to a bunch of people who have already made that decision for themselves for what ever reason, Same with a sleeve or a GB board. Their reasons won't necessarily make sense for you. Personally, I chose banding because while it had a lower Excess Weight Loss Average, the complications and mortality rate were also much, much lower than the other surgeries. Additionally I had a philosophical problem having my stomach cut away and my intestines re-routed, and the accompanying mal-absorption issues that would accompany that type of surgery. With that said, if my band ever fails and I can't have it replaced I would probably opt for a sleeve or GB. After loosing 50 pounds with the band, I would put up with the additional issues to continue to be thin. I don't ever want to go back to where I was. I want to echo Missy's comment, WLS is not a magic fix, it is a hell of a lot of hard work. But the thing is, with the WLS the hard work means something. Good luck on your research and your journey. BTW, Alex sells a book on this forum that will really tell you everything you need to know about what being banded means.
