Depends on whether you have a private room, and how noisy you are.

4 1/2 months post-op and no fill
Terry Poperszky replied to ATXlapband's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Not everyone has to have a fill to have the band help them lose weight and it sounds like you are one of the lucky one. On the other you had surgery and never went back for a post-op appointment? I would suggest that is a mistake, the after care of the band is as important as the band itself. IMHO BTW, filling in your profile helps when you ask questions. Good luck on your continued journey. -
You know it is going to be a long ride when....
Terry Poperszky posted a topic in Fitness & Exercise
you are almost 75% finished with your outbound leg of your ride, and you look down at your computer and it says you are doing 17 MPH and you notice that there isn't any wind in your face So you do what any self respecting roadie would do, you tack on an extra 4 miles to before turning around because after all, you don't really have a choice but to make it back to your car 90 minutes, 23 miles, 16 Mph out, 14 Mph back, 1200 Calories (And too tight to eat more than a smoothie) -
My first since starting my pre-op diet .At technical seminar and didn't even realize what I was doing until it was in my mouth. Oh, well count the calories and move on.

Buy him a fleshlight instead. Cheaper, safer and more reliable.

Bushwhacked by a donut...

90 minutes on my road bike, 23 miles and 1200 calories. I think I paid for the donut -
Bushwhacked by a donut...
Terry Poperszky replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, I count the seminar as a success, I only had one donut (a first), and I made up for it by passing on the chocolate cake they served at the luncheon. BTW, the head hunger, kept reminding me of the donuts that were left, it used to be that I would have been duty bound to make sure they were all gone, but the Mistress Band gave me enough will power to stay away from them. Although it was distracting to hear them softly calling my name through out the seminar. -

That was one of the things that caught me off guard, I would have thought that it would have done that to me as well. -
Struggling More Than Ever...
Terry Poperszky replied to CCornell87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are all different, but for me the band has allowed me to identify and work on my head hunger. We each stumble and fall in this journey, don't lose faith. -
Did you ever dislike your band?
Terry Poperszky replied to Bandashoop's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
PBing is where you either get stuck or eat too fast and the food backs up into the esophagus, which as my Dr. calls it is the"No loitering zone", so it comes back up. It isn't violent like vomiting and there are no stomach contractions. -
Question for those who have kids 12 or over
Terry Poperszky replied to cat whisperer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Discussed it in with my two daughter's 9 & 12, let them know why I was doing it, and that there would be changes in how I ate afterwards. My 12 year old took it in stride, and it became a teaching tool with my 9 year old, whom we adopted out of a family that practiced extreme hypochondria and prescription drug abuse. She and I talked several times about whether I was afraid, and wether I was going to die if when I went to the surgical center. I did tell them that this was a family matter and shouldn't be discussed out side of the family. -
For now anyhow, had my second appointment were we decided that I didn't need a fill. Steady weight loss (Of course not as fast as I would like), 3-4 hours of satiety (Depending on if I stay away from simple carbs and focus on protein). Can pretty much eat anything, but have to be careful and have had a few stuck episodes in the last month when I wasn't. It is kind of a bittersweet place to be, the green zone is this magical fairy land that is held out to us from the time we are banded, and yet here I am. I still wrestle with eating too fast, I still am plagued by head hunger, I still have to exercise, I still have weight to lose, I still get plateaued. WAIT A MINUTE, YOU MEAN I STILL HAVE TO WORK AT MY WEIGHT LOSS, I THOUGHT THE BAND WAS MAGIC!!! I WANT MY MONEY BACK!

Depends on why the head hunger is there. Evenings are my worst time, but If it is simple boredom eating, I will try and find something to keep my hands busy. Last night I picked up my guitar for the first time in a long time, the night before I cleaned in the kitchen. If it is an actual food craving, my fix is coffee, in the evening's decaf. But not just any coffee, really good coffee from India. Fresh roasted Beans, made really strong and I sip it, letting it set on my tongue, feeling the texture and concentrating on the aroma and subtleties of flavor. This seems to help me when I really want to eat, but I'm not really hungry. I doubt coffee will do it for you, but the point is find something that you feel is a extravagance and immerse yourself in the experience and don't forget to count the calories if it has any.

Thank you for the positive outlook to start the day. -
So what you are saying is that you are just like the rest of us?

Well, I am 6'0 so taller than the national average for a male, but I am not sure what you are asking. My personal goal is 1300 a day with eating exercise calories as needed. My NUT told me that she is more concerned over volume (1 cup per meal), but she said because of my height 1300 - 1500 calories a day would be acceptable. I probably average closer to 1400 and try to eat about half of my exercise calories. I am loosing at a good clip, and I have gone from 44" waist to a 36". I am in the green zone, but frankly I haven't had much physical hunger since the surgery. Now head hunger is another matter all together.

Telling people...??
Terry Poperszky replied to beanie80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was picky before surgery, anyone who asked after the surgery. My logic is when people ask me what I am doing to lose the weight, I can't lie and give false hope. There are other people out there like me that have struggled with their weight all their lives, and I feel I have to let them know that sometimes "Eat less, move more" is simply not an option. As for WLS being the easy way out, not one person has said that too me. -

Did you ever dislike your band?
Terry Poperszky replied to Bandashoop's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nope, love my band. Don't like PB'ing or getting stuck, but the easy way to avoid that is follow the rules. -
If it involves hot wax, I would pass.

WHAT!!! I exercised 4x last week and gained 5 pounds! I hate this!
Terry Poperszky replied to OldMomOf3's topic in Fitness & Exercise
The charts that calculate BMR usually are conservative, and the breathing test is usually much more accurate, but you numbers seem really high to me. BUT, we are all different and I think you are on the right track with your suggestions.
