MFP calorie intake is not calibrated for banded patients. Go back to your Dr. or NUT and get a figure from them. I'm 6 feet and male and my NUT told me 1300 - 1500 calories, her normal patients were 1000 - 1200. According to a BMR calculator, your BMR is 1953, which means that you are only running a 150 calories deficit or about 1 pound a month.

who eat refried beans that come from a can. I just made a big batch of refritos, to celebrate my day on mushies.

I feel sorry for all you people...

Despite being Anglo by heritage, I grew up in Southern California, and Mexican food has always had a central role in our family. One for my earliest memories was of the kids sitting around the fireplace with long forks roasting green peppers so that Mom would make Chile Rellenos. -

This is one of those things that I learned from cooking with my mother, so anything it won't make a ton of sense. Take a mess of dried pinto beans and soak them over night. The next day, take a chunk of salt pork and a lot of garlic and put them in with the beans, cover them with Water and boil and boil and boil until the beans are soft, then remove the salt pork and mash 30% of the beans. Top with cheese and enjoy. -

Google is your friend. The name is based on a mistranslation: in Mexican Spanish, the prefix re is an informal form of emphasis meaning "very" or "well", which has been confused with the English re, which more often indicates repetition. Thus, frijoles refritos really means "well-fried beans", not "refried beans". In this dish, the Beans are often fried, but may also be baked, thus making the term "refried" a misnomer on two counts.[1] -

If people didn't respond, they wouldn't send them out. If they send out 1 Million and and .001 respond, that is still 1000 people they can steal money from. -

Went for a fill appointment this morning, talked over my hunger levels and loss history over he last month and the nurse suggested a .2 tweak, bringing me up to 4.9. So, liquids today, and mushies tomorrow. And I don't have to go back for a month.

Any idea how to get over a plateau?
Terry Poperszky replied to kileybug34's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
New or old, anytime the scale stops moving we start worrying. You aren't alone in this, it happens to all of us. -
Why horrible? WW has one of the best programs out there for nutritionally balanced eating. Now whether it is compatible with your band is another matter. Besides, having your husband as a partner will make it better for both of you.

I can't give you a definitive answer as to the problem, but my suggestion would be to call your Dr. and ask their advice. -
My initial loss with my band was amazing (and a little scary), but the joy of seeing pounds dropping off on a daily basis was truly fantastic. As I was looking at my weight this morning, I noticed that I had only lost 5 pounds during the month of April and was tempted toward the negative by comparing my loss with what I did when I was first banded. Then I started to think about my bike ride on Sunday, 28 miles, 23 miles two days before, Both at speeds that it took me 5 months of work up to last year to be able to sustain for 15 miles. I thought about my spin class and the progress I have made during it, where I had to stop and rest halfway through when I first started. I thought about the fact that it is time to go shopping for clothes again because my pants are starting to bunch at the waist when I tighten my belt enough to hold them up. I thought about the fact that I am down to one belt because I haven't punched holes in the other two. I thought about the fact that the fat percentage on my scale hit a new low number this morning. I thought about all the weight that I lost on WW, and how 5 pounds in a month would have been a cause for celebration. Yup, the low hanging fruit of my band journey is all gone, but that's ok I burn more calories when I have to climb the branches to reach the higher fruit. Father God, please help me to remain thankful for all that you have given me instead of focusing on what I don't have...

Any idea how to get over a plateau?
Terry Poperszky replied to kileybug34's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Keep on eye on your weight 30 days ago, if you weigh less you aren't on a plateau. Personally, I lose in bursts. and my weight will bounce around after a burst of loss, before dumping more fat again. -
I weigh daily, it is my accountability. I also had have weight fluctuations based on how hard I exercise, and how much sodium I take in. Last Sunday, I did a very strenuous 2 hour ride, as my muscles repaired themselves I retained 5 pounds of Water, today? poof all gone. If I weighed myself weekly, and had a 5 pound gain on my weigh in day, and then needed to wait another week, life would be HELL. I weigh daily, and realize that there are going to be fluctuations. I also keep an eye on my weight 30 days prior to give me perspective. I watch my Fat percentages as calculated by my scale for trends. I log my food, counting my calories, my Protein and my sodium intake. I am aware of the fit of my clothes and track inches on a monthly basis. This routine works for me, YMMV. As far as string cheese, I prefer the Babybel light cheese by Laughing cow, only one less gram of protein, but 30 less calories and 30 mg less sodium.

Pain in left shoulder??
Terry Poperszky replied to petemac85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had it at first, it went away, but came back when I hit the green zone. It is my "soft stop" eating too much, too fast or not chewing enough will generate pain in my left shoulder. It is Mistress Band's way of letting me know that she is still there, and still in control. -
