Does size matter?
Terry Poperszky replied to lastone719's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. Both are factors, as well as genetics and lifestyle. -
What was the first habit you changed?
Terry Poperszky replied to TheDuchess's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dropped diet coke and drinking with meals. Yes, they are both still helpful for weight loss. -
Confession time...I'm ashamed
Terry Poperszky replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And you are ashamed why? One of the hardest truths that is shouted on this board is that the band doesn't cure our head hunger. So... Stop being ashamed (useless emotion in dealing with eating issues). Figure out what is triggering this. Work on changing it. Find someone that you can be truthful with (Not your mother), talk with them each morning about whether you did or didn't closet eat. Be truthful, or don't bother. Sorry to approach this from a male point of view -
Boring is highly under rated!

I'm not sure why and I'm not sure how, but early on in my life I learned to lie to myself about many things, but most importantly about what I ate. It is one of the things that I am having to unlearn in order for my band to work for me. Today, even though I ate less than anyone at the table, I over ate and I'm not ashamed, I'm not guilty. I made a choice, and went past my soft stop. Yes I was uncomfortable. No, I didn't PB or vomit. No I didn't stretch my pouch or cause my band to slip. But the important part, I am not going to lie to myself about what I did. I am going to log the calories (as best I can), I am going to eat lightly tonight (protein shake) and I am going to go back to my normal eating pattern because if I eat like I did today on a regular basis I won't lose any more weight.

Be Honest with yourself...
Terry Poperszky commented on Terry Poperszky's blog entry in Terry Poperszky's Blog
Nope, didn't offend me at all. -
Absolutely. Various theories as to why, and usually a warm drink will help you loosen up. My LB nurse told me to get used to having a Protein shake for the first meal of the day (6:00 am for me), by 9ish I am ready for solid food.

No food coma after over eating. I just got back from a business lunch and I ate too much. Pre-Band that would have meant a couple of thousand calories and a food coma.

One more benefit of the Band
Terry Poperszky replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hate to tell you Debbie, I knew when I should have stopped, but didn't. That will be a battle many of us will face for the rest of our lives. Even with the overeating, I doubt I will exceed my BMR today, just have a lite dinner. -
A very interesting article on the effects of dieting...
Terry Poperszky posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/darya-pino-rose/foodist-weight-loss_b_3195276.html?utm_hp_ref=healthy-living I like her take on dieting, and looking at her "tips", throw in a lapband and you would have my life -
http://www.myfoxny.c...22179264/report Something tells me that there won't be many people telling him how bad a decision he made in choosing the band
-
I can only hope there is a news crew around the first time someone tells him what a bad decision he made in choosing the band over the sleeve Or better yet, he choose the easy way out, all he really needed to do was "Eat less, and move more".

MY PCP's REACTION TO MY WEIGHT LOSS
Terry Poperszky replied to dawalsh's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Let him know his words weren't helpful, and what is going on with you. Many PCP don't understand that the LB process and that it is slower. Also bring in food and Exercise logs to see if he has any suggestions. -
Go ahead and call him, be honest with him. Honestly it is "probably" going to take you more than a couple of fills to start getting the hunger suppression from the band, but at least you will be closer.

Feeling pretty miserable
Terry Poperszky replied to cda97's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One day, one hour, one minute at a time. Sounds trite, but it is the way to do it. You can't make it a whole day? Can you make it the next hour? Walking, swearing, shouting, crying, but make it the next hour. You made it the hour? Can you do another one? How about 30 minutes? When you look at 11 days, it seems like an eternity, but when you look at a day, or an hour, then the task becomes more manageable. -
To tattoo or not?
Terry Poperszky replied to JenWis6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is what the American Red Cross has to say on the subject: Tattoo Wait 12 months after a tattoo if the tattoo was applied in a state that does not regulate tattoo facilities. This requirement is related to concerns about hepatitis. Acceptable if the tattoo was applied by a state-regulated entity using sterile needles and ink that is not reused. Cosmetic tattoos applied in a licensed establishment in a regulated state using sterile needles and ink that is not reused is acceptable. There are 40 states that currently regulate tattoo facilities. You should discuss your particular situation with the health historian at the time of donation. -

What did you eat tonight in honor of Cinco de Mayo
Terry Poperszky posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Chicken tacos (I passed on the shell), with spinach and cheese and Frijoles Refritos in my house. Enough left overs for my lunches for the week. -
What did you eat tonight in honor of Cinco de Mayo
Terry Poperszky replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You took my words and twisted them, not going to play that game. You did not get to be fat by choosing to eat Mexican food in moderation in honor of Cinco De Mayo, you got fat by having an unhealthy relationship with food, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Hell, I'm probably going to have a hot dog to celebrate July fourth. -

CG, not Patron? Not a big fan of any of the reposado's, too smooth. If I am going to sip something, it will be Irish Whiskey. And of course, I will count the calories. -

The tequila is ok, but the salt and lemon chaser are too high in sodium for me. -
