Interesting article on various aerobic exercises
Terry Poperszky replied to catfish87's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Cool, according to this, I have never had a "true" aerobic workout...I have some Garmin data that would disagree with that How about you CF? You ready to stop dogging it and trade your road bike in for an elliptical trainer? I think I will post this over on bikeforums.net and see if they have an opinion. "It is very difficult to get a consistent true aerobic workout using a bicycle. One reason for this is because a bicycle freewheels. It can roll for long periods with no energy applied. If you ride uphill you get exercise. If you ride downhill you get very little exercise. Another reason is that It takes too much time for most people. I estimate you would have to do about 20-35 miles on a mountain bike, 35-60 miles on a comfort bike, and over 70 miles on a road bike. " -

Exercise: When does it get easier?
Terry Poperszky replied to Terry Poperszky's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I know what you are talking about, there are times on my bike that I get to that point and become one with the bike, sun beating down, legs pumping, it is truly a moment of zen. Then there are the other times, legs and lungs are on fire and you know that you have taken the turn off to Hell. -
I've used it, and I like it. As far as being band friendly, while I have no problem with it, doesn't mean you wont. That is the nature of the band.

Morning work ride: 1:28 minutes, 21.75 Miles, 1021Calories Afternoon work ride: 1:38 minutes, 21.85 Miles 1100 Calories That gives me 130.12 miles, 8:54:28 h:m:s, 6,966 Calories for the week.

STOP THAT! No matter who you are, there is always someone better. I went to a race last year called "Tour of Utah" the course for the first day of six was 138 miles, with a 3,000 foot climb in 90+ degree desert heat, And that was their easiest day! Compared to them, I shouldn't even be allowed to own a bike. The only competition that is worthwhile is the one you have with yourself. You are doing a great job, keep it up. Every time you get on that bike, you get off in better shape,

My Husband told me he would rather put our $ into patio- Am I Selfish?
Terry Poperszky replied to RwSample's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask Dan if he would rather put it into a divorce lawyer than the surgery or the patio. What an ASSH*T -

It is ok when your Dr. says it is ok. -
No biking to work for me today, so I went for a little jaunt when I got home. Only problem, the Water bottle that I filled got left on the kitchen counter :-) But there was a drinking fountain at mile 10 and I had an empty bottle on the bike, so I wasn't hurting too badly. 23 Miles, 1:23 Minutes, 1100 Calories.

I generally try and ignore trolls, but for the other two I try and fight FUD with Facts. For instance, every times somebody mentions that they know someone that had a problem I mention the studies that show long term effectiveness.

My dr insists that I'm in the green zone, I'm skeptical
Terry Poperszky replied to donna12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Green zone has nothing to do with what you can eat, it deals with satiety when you eat the right things. I just got out of my monthly checkup without a fill. Why? I'm usually not hungry for 3-5 hours after I eat and I lost 6 pounds last month, I can eat anything (Well I don't really know that for sure, I haven't tried everything). Could I be tighter? Probably, don't want to find out. -
how do I know if im making the right choice
Terry Poperszky replied to Angiekate's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There is a really good way to not fail, don't try. If you are happy being fat, if the decreased quality of life and shortened life span aren't a problem for you, then don't get banded. Thing is, you wouldn't be on this forum posting if that were the case. So the question you really should be asking is not "What if I fail", but what if I do nothing. -
Can you still be a foodie
Terry Poperszky replied to vincereautmori's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes In fact I enjoy my food more now than before -
One of the head hunger issues that really haunts me is using food as a reward. Yesterday, I planted my butt on a bicycle seat for almost 3.5 hours and burned 2200 calories and I finished up the day with over a 1000 calories that I didn't eat. Once a week, I take my two girls for fresh donuts in the morning before I drop them off at school and this was the morning. As we approached the little voices in my head kept singing, you were good, you exercised, you deserve a donut over and over again. As my girls picked out their donuts I could literally taste them in my mind, but finally I stopped and said, NO, what I deserve is to be thin, turned and walked away with my daughters to pay for their donuts. Today, YOU deserve to be thin, don't settle for anything less that what is rightfully yours.

I am in mine twice a day with no discernible effect.

I know there are a lot of different opinions going around, but give me a good old scientific study any day... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12187618

No, this has nothing to do with coffee. I was addressing the claims that caffeinated drinks are diuretic and shouldn't be used for hydration. BTW, my Dr. has absolutely no problems with coffee or caffeine.

Can anyone else feel/see your port protruding?
Terry Poperszky replied to daisies76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It isn't supposed to be deep in the muscle tissue, but it is anchored to it. Yes, I can see and feel mine. -
uggg.. I hate bras.
Terry Poperszky replied to jsws91's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On behalf of males everywhere I want to agree that "We hate bras too!" -
Cute, no. The facility where I work has a gym, with showers in the locker room.

Protein Shakes After Full Healing?
Terry Poperszky replied to solson8201's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Too tight in the morning. My Dr. told me to plan on having one for breakfast from then on. -
Well, that was 2 hours or pure hell. I had a headwind coming home, what took me 83 minutes this morning, took me over 100 minutes coming home and I don't think my legs have ever been this tired. 21.75 Miles, 1:42 minutes, 1100 calories.

You do have to do it, you do have to want it, but you are absolutely correct, it isn't easy. WLS may not be the easy way out, but for me it is the only way out. History says I can't do it any other way. Keep the faith, and give it time, you will get to where you want to be.

Worrying doesn't help, prayer yes, worry no. Until we get more information, then we just need to wait. She was good friends with several people on the boards, and I am sure that someone will eventually fill us in.
