I finally have restriction, but is it too much?
Terry Poperszky replied to Justaprettyface's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm with Lellow, go back to liquids, but I would also call you Dr. -
"O" a word of wisdom? Don't plan too far ahead in your weight loss "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." For many of us, our initial loss is was quite extreme, but your loss will probably slow (and sometimes stop) as your body gets used to the extreme calorie deficient. I am about 6 months ahead of you, and based on my initial loss I expected to be a good 20 - 30 pounds lighter than I am. What I didn't plan for my weight loss to slow after 40 pounds and stop for two months after 55 pounds. Pre-lap band that plateau would have thrown me, but as the Word said I focused on one day at a time, enjoying the gift of freedom that what I had lost had given me. Peace

lap band mood swings, reflux and all night coughing
Terry Poperszky replied to rananwar's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My LB nurse has said that reflux and night time coughing are a sign of too much restriction. I would head back to the Dr. -
I like the flavor of Babybel light better than sting cheese, and yes I can eat sushi, but YMMV

I love your posts B-52, and hope to be where you and Lellow are one day, just got back from a week of vacation where I never opened MFP once and it was great, BUT now that I am back in the real world I'm a grazer, and if I don't log, I don't lose. Yup, my band controls my hunger, it is fantastic, but if I only ate when I was hungry, I wouldn't be fat There are many of us who never learned to listen to our bodies signals when it came to food, I am one of them. I hope to learn that skill, but truthfully if I have to log until the day I die in order to weigh what I want, then I can accept that.

Cancelled My Surgery

Wise decision. Too many surgeons are in it for the money, the band simply isn't a right fit for everybody. Great news on your loss, keep up the good work. -
With or without the peel?

Ummm.... I hate to tell you this, but this isn't very private

I just got back from vacation at Yellowstone and like many banders I was tighter while at the higher altitude, and discovered that I felt better. So since I had a LB fill appointment this morning, I had them tweak my band with a .25 cc fill. But back to liquids for today and soft for tomorrow.

Just got tweaked...

Sharpie I won't lie, I got stuck several times the first couple of days. In the end, I had to treat it like a fill, not being able to eat solids in the morning, taking very small bites and waiting. Once I did that I was fine. -
I shoot for 1500 a day, but I am 6" and male.

Face it Go, you were just happy to have that hot, young athlete sitting next to you! <HUMOR> I understand what you mean, I recently flew for the first time since surgery and it was really nice to not fill the seat.

I had a complete unfill, awaiting an upper GI (EGD) and still having problems with food.

Hope it all turns out good. -
Welcome to the family, no one has ever called this place quiet.

I am having a hard time trying to decide which procedure to undergo.
Terry Poperszky replied to MinnesotaDreaming165's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The multiple visits are a plus, I love that as I loose my band is adjustable, I went in this morning for a "tweak", I can adjust it for my lifestyle, my comfort level. I exercise heavily during the summer, I want it looser, but as my activity level declines in the fall and winter I want it tighter. Can't do that with a sleeve or GB As for the port, it is there, and not very obvious now, I have another 40 pounds to loose so it may be more obvious then, but it can always be re-routed later. -

Terry Poperszky replied to MinnesotaDreaming165's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, the Doctor's don't have the final say. You do. I went with LB because I wanted something for he most part that was reversible, and didn't remove or re-route portions of my intestinal system. I liked the much lower risk of complications and death and was willing to settle for a slower weight loss. I am very happy with my choice, but what ever WLS you choose, it will require you to work, and work hard to get where you want to be. -
Yup, the year before surgery I struggled to hit a certain speed on my bike for a distance of 10 miles, now if I hit that speed on a 30 mile ride I am disappointed because I am going so slow

I haven't been swimming since my LB surgery in January, and while we were in Yellowstone this last week the families wanted to go swimming. Well I am not a cork I have never had a problem treading Water, when I jumped in with 60 pounds less fat I sank like a rock, it took everything I could do to keep my head above water. I honestly believe if I had breathing gear, I could have taken a stroll along the bottom of the river. Well, at least I won't need as much weight the next time I go scuba.

Feeling discouraged after consultation
Terry Poperszky replied to bosscookie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon does nothing but lap bands, but he was up front about what to expect, he told me that the average loss was 60%, then he pointed to his nurse and said she lost over 100 pounds and all of her excess weight, then he said "you get to decide which category you will be in". So, the question is, are you willing to settle for "Average"? -
I just spent the week at Yellowstone, which is about a 3-4 K altitude increase from where I normally live. I found out the first day that things were going to be different, it was like I had just gotten a fill. My LB nurse had warned me to expect it, as many of her patients had reported the same reaction to altitude.

Erectile Dysfuntion issues since bandins
Terry Poperszky replied to Flowering man's topic in The Guys’ Room
I can't speak to ED, but I do know that in my life my weight loss has taken all of my focus, which in turn has lead to a decreased interest in many things that once where important to me. Sometimes I think my body has dropped into survival mode, and is cutting out everything but the most important things. -
Will insurance pay for anything, if they don't approve surgery?

I just got a check for 309.00 on an 11K lap band procedure. -
I just got back off of vacation and on to my bike for the first time in a week. Felt soooo good! I would invite you to log your miles for the month of June on this thread. This is not competition, but my personal goal is to do 10 more miles than what ever Catfish does which is going to be hard since he is a skinny little guy and doesn't have as much fat to lug around. Starting it off with today's ride 20.09 Miles, 1:15 minutes, 953 Calories. Ok, Who is next?
