  1. Hi, My surgery date is June 27th. I was told that I will stay in the hospital one night. After I go home I will be alone and my neighbor will come and check on me daily. Are there any fellow candidates who has their surgery on the same week or so? I started the pre-op diet 3 days ago. I am getting used to the milk shakes in the morning. They are not so bad, but my pre-op diet is not perfect: unfortuntely I go over the 1000 by ~200 Cals but I hope improve it in a couple of days. I am worried about the pain during the first 2 days after surgery. How much am I going to be incapacitated?? Thanks!
  2. Good Luck, Aviva!! You will be fine. 17 or 20 it is very close. It will not matter!

  4. I am ten days postop. I lost 9 pounds before the surgery (starting at 235) and 6 pounds in the first week after surgery. Now, at day 10 the weight loss seemed to slow down.

    5 Months...38Lbs

    Congratulations! You look great!
  8. What I have learnt over the years that if you tell something to a person who has a significant other, the other one will know about it, for sure. This is how couples work, they just cannot keep any news from each other. I have experienced it many time (of course there could be outliers but I have never met any yet). From now on it is safe to assume that if you tell something to a couple the news will be shared right away... I am sorry!!
  9. I feel your pain. I have guests coming over for dinner. I made a 3 course meal, baked bread and cannot touch any of it. I will stick to my yogurt and shake.

They gave me cranberry juice in the hospital an Day1. I was told to be on full liquid diet when I get home, which includes creamy soups and light yogurt as long as they do not contain any solid chunks.

  13. In regard to Realize band - This is from Wikipedia: In the U.S. market, two types of adjustable gastric bands have been approved by the FDA: Realize Band and Lap-Band. The Lap-Band System obtained FDA approval in 2001.[8] The device comes in five different sizes and has undergone modification over the years. The latest models, the Lap-Band AP-L and Lap-Band AP-S, feature a standardized injection port sutured into the skin and fill volumes of 14 mL and 10 mL respectively.[9] The Realize Adjustable Gastric Band obtained FDA approval in 2007.[10] Realize Band-C has a 14% greater adjustment range than the Realize Band. Both the Realize Band and Realize Band-C, however, are one-size-fits-all. The device differentiates itself from the Lap-Band AP series through its sutureless injection port installation and larger range of isostatic adjustments. The maximum fill volume for the Realize Band is 9 ml, while the newer Realize Band-C has a fill volume of 11 ml. Both fill volumes fall within a low pressure range to prevent discomfort or strain to the band.[11]

Skinny person trapped in a fat body..

Congratulation! You made the right choice.
  18. Have you had a surgery because of any broken bone? The pain of LB surgery is way less than that. I had a wrist surgery several years ago and I expected the same painful feeling. Luckily, it was different this time. I took my opoid pain medicaition for 3.5 days and since then I only took Tylenol. I do not think that I experienced the shoulder pain (gas pain) other talk about, so I cannot talk about that. An postop Day 4 I was ready to go off the pain medication except 1 tylenol for night time. I do not want to mitigate the issue, do not misunderstand me, the first 48 hours were difficult. However after Day 2-3 it significantly improves.
  19. Ladyann, not exactly. It was not exactly baked potato. I cut up the peeled potato, boiled it, added 2-3 oz of milk and mashed it. I seasoned it with salt and that's it. The consistency was like a creme soup or baby food. I had it together with applesauce. You can certainly even mix in unflavored protein powder. My total calory intake was still under 800Cal today. I had to make a choice tonight: do I want to eat the leftovers of the mashed potato+ protein (1 cup altogether) or have 1 cup of freshly made milkshake with frozen fruits + vanilla protein powder. Before I could have had double dose of each combined for dinner and would have been still considered a low calorie dinner
  20. Today I had mashed potato with apple sauce + walked 1 hour outside !! yay!

How much could you get down?

On postop day 1 I had 20g Protein, on Day2 70g, on Day3 57g, on Day4 90g. I found that if I drink milk based shakes, milk makes it more delicious and adds extra 8 g protein. In the morning I stick with 1 cup FF milk+ 1 teaspoon instant decaf coffee +1 scoop Pur Protein vanilla = 33 g protein. If I repeat this at night with fruit instead of coffee flavor, then I am at 66g protein total without counting the lunch. This seems to work for me. Of course, I could drink 1 cup of milkshake only on Day 4. I remember on Day 2 it took me half an hour to sip 6 ounces of it, then I was totally full. It will get better!!
  22. Hi Binx, The soup is awaiting in Pennsylvania I can only feel my port, not the band. I hope I will never feel the band, actually. The big news was yesterday that I was able to roll on my side at night (both directions).
  23. Maybe you can just drink water, i know it will make you do more stops during the trip....
  24. I am sorry for the news Areli! Here they let us be on a full liquid diet after day 2. Only day one was clear liquid (broth, tee etc).
