Poll -- What's Your Willpower Like?
Windfury replied to losangelesislovely's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Interesting question and topic! I think before the band, I would have put myself in the B group, because I was one to tell myself, especially at restaurants, that since I did not have an appetizer, I could splurge on dessert. Now that I have been banded, I see myself in the A group now. I find that I get stronger with each day that goes by, especially now that I'm losing weight. -

Same here! I have not been able to upload any pics since I registered. I will try a different browser and see if it makes a difference -
There's such stigma around anything pertaining to our mental health. Enough to make us go crazy! (pun intended) Seriously, do not worry at all, like it was mentioned before, they just want to make sure that you are ready to make this lifestyle change. They want to make sure you have a good support system at home, to help you along this journey. When I attended my pre-op seminar, the nurse told us that no one ever got denied because of the psych evaluation. The most that can happen, is that you might be asked to join a support group after, or just talk with a counselor. It's really no biggie You will do just fine- breathe and smile, you are about to start a wonderful journey. Good Luck to you! Don't stress over this one- you will do just fine

All those feelings are normal! You'll come out of it like a Champ! Best of Luck! Keep us posted -
Hi YankeeChick~ I keep it simple and take "Flinstones Complete" chewable tablets, 1x day with one of my meals. Then I take 2 Caltrates Soft Chews, 1 with my Breakfast and 1 after my lunch or dinner. They are chocolate flavored, so it feels like I'm having a bite of dessert when I take them after my meal. I've been banded for 17 days now, and I have not noticed any difference with my hair. My hair is sligthly below my shoulders now, and I have thick hair, so it might be too early or difficult to tell if any changes have occured or not...time will tell I guess. The good news is, the thinning won't last and your hair will grow back, but you still need to take your Vitamins The Flinstones are really good- I don't mind them at all. Good Luck!

I can't even imagine what you are going through, physically and mentally. I'm sure all of this is depleting you of energy, and it must be a daily struggle to remain hopeful and positive. Take the time to really evaluate what you want to do next. Right now, it seems you are at a standstill and you have a few options to consider. Weigh the pros & cons carefully and then make the best decision for you. Your physical & mental health are crucial to your all-around well-being. Don't forget that you did it once, and you were very successful. Don't forget that you have inner-strength and determination. Don't forget that you are human and will make mistakes at times, but most of all, don't forget you are so worth it. Good Luck and many blessings your way~ xooxxoxo -

I've been banded for 17 days now, and I still feel a bit of soreness around my big incision, which is where the port is located. Remember, that's where the doctor did most of the work, is through that incision, so it would be normal that it would be sore the most around that area. It does get better with time! I'm 20 lbs down, so it's all worth it. Hang in there! Hello to everyone else! -

Happy Sunday to all of you~ Congrats to all the December Bandsters As for me, I'm on Day 10 Post-Op and I'm feeling so much better! I had my first appointment with my Doctor, and I lost 8lbs in 6 days, thanks to the clear liquid diet I'm now on a mix of Phase 2 and Phase 3- I'm eating no more than 4 meals a day, about 1 cup per meal, and 60% protein based. Doc said he only put 2cc in my band, so it's not as restrictive just yet. My next appointment is on January 23rd and he advised to expect a fill at that time. I'm really not hungry, especially in the morning, I have to force myself to make a protein shake. I have not had any type of carbs at all, but I have to tell you, I could probably eat a few crackers or mashed potatoes right about now. However, I'm not going to.....Doctor said if I start eating those soft carbs, I will not do as well as I should be expected. So, I'm determined to stay away from the carbs as much as possible. Other than that, my incisions are itchy A good sign of course! That's it for now! -

Good Evening Everyone, Let me apologize upfront for being selfish and not replying to everyone's comment. This is the first day I've started to feel human again. My surgery was on Thursday morning, at 8:30 and by 11 am, I was in the recovery room. All went well until then....I had a negative reaction to the anesthesia, and had a case of acute nausea. I was suppose to get out the same day, but my doctor said he needed to keep me under observation for another 24 hrs. They tried 3 different drugs to make the nausea go away, but nothing worked, so the doctor told me I had no choice but to just ride out the anesthesia drug (I don't know what it's called). So for 12 hrs straight, I was extremely nauseated, I could not keep anything down. I was told to not drink water, for a while because sometimes it makes things worse. I had the IV going the whole time, so I was being kept hydrated. Finally, at around midnight, the nausea let up a little bit, enough for me to take a few sips of watered down apple juice. The nausea was so bad, that I did not feel the pain of the incisions. The nurse kept asking me: " Are you sure you don't want your pain medication Honey? You have not had any all day". I just kept saying no....I didn't need it at that time. I came home the next day, at around 1PM, and went straight to bed to sleep. I had not slept at all the whole time...I was too busy with my labored breathing...I kept dry-heaving and I was so scared it would do something to the band. I too, have mucus stuck in my throat that won't come up. I have terrible gas pains, however, when I walk, it helps to relieve some of it. I'm glad to see all of you are doing well, and are at one stage of the healing process or another. I hope I did not scare anyone who is about to have the surgery. Like all of you, I keep telling myself it will be all worth it. And NO, I have absolutely NO food cravings. NONE! My best advice, is to walk around when you get home, take a shower, etc. Keep moving as much as you can. Thanks for listening. More personals over the next few days... -

Totally normal that you are nervous- most people are. I must admit that I'm not...yet...but that might change on Thursday morning. I'm so gung-ho on having this done. I've been SO tired of being overweight...I look at all my nice clothes in my closet, and I just shake my head. I don't fit in anything. I'm in a size 20 pants and 1X to 2X in tops...I used to be a size 8. UGH! Anyways... I've done a lot of reading on this site, and it's my favorite out of all of them. I have also read a lot of personal blogs, as I'm interested in one's journey through this. Just make sure you have your list ready, and give yourself some time, to go shopping for food and vitamins. Get comfy clothes ready, and a heating pad (according to a lot of ppl on here, its a much needed item, so I have mine ready). Keep the excitement going! You should be proud of yourself for taking this step towards a new, healthier you. Yay!! -

Am I the only one who did not have to be on a pre-op diet? My surgery is scheduled for 12/13, which is Thursday, and all I have to do tomorrow, is have a good breakfast, good lunch, then on liquids after that. After midnight, nothing at all. I see most of you have been on a liquid diet beforehand...I wonder why my protocol is different? Anyone else not on a pre-op diet? -
