    Carbonation

My doc said soda (diet) was fine as long as I could tolerate it. I see lots of posts saying they can't because of slippage, wlondering how common that is. My doc has done about 900 procedures in 12 years.

    Question about pre-op diet

My surgeon also has you on liquids 2 weeks post surgery and has said if you can't handle the 10 day pre op, you are not a good candidate b/c not following a strict diet after will lead to complications.
  4. You may want to focus on your overall mental Heath as well. I have seen therapists over the years for my weight issues and depression. The band alone won't help if your brain isn't on board and it sounds like you may have issues beside the weight loss support group. My health insurance covers my visits with a therapist.
  5. I have been trying to lose weight since I was 5 years old, I have obviously failed at everything else or I wouldn't be this big and scheduling surgery. I am just worried that since many of my issues are mental (and I do see a therapist for them) that I could somehow fail at the band and then once again I will hear "Why can't you just lose weight with the band, everyone else does"/

    2 week liquid diet shakes

that brand is one of the ones my nutritionists has approved, she also approves of Carnation Instant Breakfast Sugar Free and the Atkins ones. I have purchased small amounts of each one (you can get Pure Protein in 12oz pre made cans). so I can see which i like best before buying in bulk.

    January 2013 Bandsters Unite

I posted in our monthly board but this thread is getti more action so I will repost! What are you looking forward to the most in post banded life? For me it's being able to cross my legs like a lady, not worrying about being asked to buy a second airplane ticket and of course shopping in a regular size clothing store.
  8. My doc hasn't given me paperwork on the recovery, wondering how many days until you were able to drive, I need to take my daughter to/from school.
  9. All that liquid, just wondering if it caused problems for folks, ie "the runs". I have to work! Can't be running to the bathroom every 10 minutes. I doubt after the surgery running anywhere will be easy.

    Weight limit for surgery

Yes I believe the cut off at my practice is 50 or 55. Beyond that he refers you to a major Boston teaching hospital, the community hospital isn't equipped for the higher weights or the increased risk factors.
  11. My daughter is actually excited to get jello at the hospital, she remembers that well from when her sister was born.
  12. My children are 3 and 6, my 6 year old came to see me after i had a c-section with my younger daughter. I don't think this would be traumatic for them, I haven't been told I will be anything other than comfortably medicated and with no visible injuries. My surgery is at either 7:30am or 9am, I am awaiting confirmation.
  13. I start my liquid diet on 1/21. The written directions give items which you may have in limited quantities such as fat free greek yogurt, juice, milk etc... Did you have a set # of these which you could have or was it based on daily caloric intake? I will be seeing the doc on 1/7 and will ask him, but starting to get ready by purchasing items I will need.
  14. Have the 2013 support group dates been announced yet? I am being banded on 1/31 and would like to get to one if possible before my surgery.
  15. I can have unlimited diet soda, crystal light or other sugar/calorie free beverages and broth only based Soups. This is the actual text, I am just confused if I have to stick to these quanitities or calories, again I will ask the doc, just wondering what the norm is. Consume these liquids in moderation; they contain larger amounts of sugar. 1. juice, Gatorade® or Powerade®- Limit to 2 cups or less each day. (Try to choose juices lower in sugar such as apple, orange or grapefruit.) 2. Regular Jello, popsicles or no sugar added fudgicles- 3 or less each day. 3. 1 cup of milk (skim, 1%, Lactaid®) 6 ounces light yogurt (Dannon Light, Yoplait Light or Columbo Light, Greek style yogurt like Chobani (0%) or Fage), ½ cup low fat ricotta cheese or ½ cup Low fat cottage cheese: 3 or less daily. 4. January 2013 Bandsters Unite

I am scheduled for Jan 31. I have been approve since Oct but wanted to wait until after the holidays as I did some traveling and have two small girls and a lot of Santa responsibilities!
  17. My children are 3 and 6 and I have not shared my lap and plan with them although the 6 year old overhead my husband and I working on the details of daycare drop offs and wanted to know why I had to go to the hospital. We told her I might have an operation to be healthier but it was not for sure and not to worry.

    Weight loss and PCOS?

There isn't a single test for PCOS although checking testosterone levels can be an indicator. I have taken metformin over the years which aids in weight loss but is hard on the stomach. 1000 calories with your fitness level seems low though.

    Celiac and the lapband

Wondering if anyone has thoughts on celiac and the band. My daughter was just diagnosed and I am having blood work next week, my lap and is scheduled for Jan 31 and wondering if I do test + if this will complicate my plans.
