  1. I was afraid of this, liquid in, liquid out. I am holding off on eating anything but yogurt & broth basically at work because the shakes really do make me run for the bathroom. I have tried a few kinds and they are all doing it, is this normal? I am on day 5.
  2. I am on day 8 and it's harder now than the first few days for me. the only thing keeping me going is the thought of oatmeal and low fat squash soup on Saturday post banding!!! Until then I am chewing a lot of gum and drinking a lot of diet soda and water with some warm tea.
  3. yes it's freezing and I am in New England, but for the past 5 or so days I can not get warm, I am loosing weight (down 12.8lbs) so I am wondering if this is a side effect?
  4. my what a supportive post, must be hard for you to remember what your early days were like. I have seen enough of your posts to know this is not your first unhelpful post, but I'm not a newbie to internet message boards either so I know enough to avoid feeling bad because of a know it all.

    January 2013 Bandsters Unite

Anyone else going Thursday? I feel like everyone else in Jan is already banded.
  6. I keep missing the darn office when I call (I have a few questions) I will try and grab a live person tomorrow.
  7. For those who have broth only soups a part of pre op what are you using? I am so bored after 7 days if plain low sodium broth and strained Lipton onion soup. I love savory and did have strained Mexican vegetable broth last night. Any other ideas?
  8. A few people I have shared my decision with have said this to me. I apparently "carry" my weight well because even the pcyscologist at my surgeon's office told me he was surprised by my weight, I don't look like I weigh almost 300lbs. My MIL was down right shocked I had made the decision, of course she herself is likely pushing 300lbs and has never been on a diet in her life. I just told her I wanted to have better control over my health and this was something I needed.

Do you put the heating pad on the area with gas or on your stomach? Just trying to be prepared.
  10. I am on 3 shakes, 2 yogurt, 1c cottege cheese and all the sugar free popscicles/jello/diet beverages/broth I can handle and up to 3 SF fudgescicles. I did well until about 7pm when I felt like I was a bottomless pit. I had worked out between 5-6pm then had some dinner (shake, cottege cheese & broth). Then I had a cup of V-8 which I mistakenly thought was ok for pre-op, it's actually for post op but I am not too worried that 1 cup of juice is going to ruin my liver, I just won't drink it again, it of course hit the spot. I feel like I can do pre-op but working out is going to be hard b/c I already feel my energy flagging, but how on earth can I do this post op for 2 more weeks!!!!! I can deal with the hunger now, I just worry about that thing they call "bandster hell" where you are starving and can only take little sips of liquids. I hope i am strong enough.
  11. I track on MPF and have before starting my LB process. Since starting my pre-op diet (protien shakes, fat free dairy & broth) I have been getting a 'warning' each day that I am not eating enough calories I should bump it up to 1200 (the minimum number my nutritionist in the past said to stay above). Now I know that doesn't really apply to those of us with/about to get WLS, but post surgery with the continued low calorie count, is starvation mode a concern?
  12. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I had a few coupons from the first paper of the year (when everyone goes on diets!) but was wondering if anyone had a good site or source for coupons on these items? I like both shakes equally and prefer the pre-made vs. powder but will buy whats on sale.

Those of you already banded how are the first weeks?
  16. dolphintattoo

But most of that is probably water ***RANT***

Our bodies in general are about 98% water anyway right so of course some it is water!!!! Would they rather you lose bone and cartiledge?

    Ok to be scared?

I am becoming more nervous by the day! I am scheduled for 1/31 and I can't believe I am taking this step. I am so nervous I won't succeed because I have failed every other diet, but the doctor and everyone at the support group has been great.
  18. For those who stayed overnight, did you wear pajamas or just the hospital gown? I see many folks discussing walking that evening to relieve gas pains but I don't want to worry about the breeze hitting my bare butt! When I had my C-sections I was in bed the entire first night then showered and changed into PJs the next day.
  19. Tops for me: 1. Crossing my legs 2. Fitting into regular sized clothing 3. Fitting comfortably into an airplane seat without worry they will make me buy another seat
  20. I start the 10 day liquid diet today (surgery Jan 31) and last night I became a bit overcome with nerves and "gee should I really do this?" My husband had been holding back telling me he had some reservations after reading some online stories of complications, i myself have read some of those and this weekend it seemed like everywhere I turned online including here I am hearing stories of folks having terrible complications or not losing any weight. Normal?

    nerves increasing before surgery?

I have confidence in my surgeon and hve been in for support group where 20+ people talked about their positive experiences and I hope it's the case of the loudest posters being the unhappinest and those who are happy in many cases are out enjoying a healthier life not posting horror stories online.
  22. dolphintattoo

what did you wear in the hospital?

Having worked in a hospital, I dont want to bring anything from home if I can help it (don't want to bring home MRSA) so I will likely bring my old slippers and throw them away before leaving. Good idea on the robe, I think I have an old one somewhere.

    nerves increasing before surgery?

the weirdest thing was as we were having this discussion, a commerical for my surgeon's practice came on TV. I have NEVER seen a commerical for him before, we both looked at the TV then at each other and thought, "this is weird"!!!

Got my finalized 2 week pre op diet

I start all liquids on Monday the 21st too! 3 shakes a day, unlimited diet soda, tea, and up to 3 servings of fat free dairy such h as cottege cheese and unlimited broth. Bought it all tonight.
  25. I stumbled upon it today and was shocked, the posters are all folks who believe the band should be taken off the market and that it causes horrible things like LUpis. Anyone know how that came to be?
