New England Post Op Banders, what are you planning for the weekend?
dolphintattoo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 1 week post op and still on liquids (protein shakes, cottage cheese, yogurt, cream soups, mashed potatoes) planning to head out to the grocery store this afternoon to stock up on those supplies. Hoping we don't lose power/heat because I am already freezing most of the time! -
January 2013 Bandsters!
dolphintattoo replied to Mimi1980's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its been nearly a week since my band, creamy liquids and protein shakes in my future for one more week. I have had soupy mashed potatoes though along with Immodium on doctors orders since the protein shakes run right through me and were causing dehydration. Trying to focus on yogurt, cottage cheese And water now with potatoes for dinner made with skim milk. Down 14lbs and I sure hope its worth it. Reading about all the people who gain or have terrible complications on this site has scared me but I feel like most didnt understand that they still have to eat properly and exercise to make it work. -
egg salad, tuna salad, scrambled eggs pureed with salsa, warm applesauce with cinnamon, low fat cheese and pureed ham w. onion.

I would call your doc about it, mine had meds available to stop the nausea, I had a patch until day 4 then after that I had to keep something (water, juice, protein shake) in my stomach or it was awful. Even the liquid painkillers helped.
-
Banded 1/31. Woke up at 3am STARVING and nauseous and tried to have oatmeal (I do better with the Roxiset web I have food in me) but after 3-4 vet small bites I started to gag. (My doc has instructed oatmeal and mashed potatoes to counter act my diarreah). About three or four times I had what I can only describe as a painful cramp/gag/hiccup. A small amount of slime (1/2tsp) came up and I managed to get ahold of my self. No was able to get 2-3 more sips of skim milk in and then took the med and went back to sleep. I have a call into my doc of course waiting to hear back, but would I know if something was wrong?
-
I have the hiccups too, usually at very random times or when I am moving around like after a shower. Doc said they were normal and to keep up on my pain meds.

Would i know if I slipped?

Yes I am on liquid Immodium as well per his suggestion, today has been much better I am not running to the bathroom every 20 seconds and feeling dehydrated. -

He said I am fine, it was likely that the band was restricting me a little more because I had been sleeping and to try liquids if I get that hungry at night (I find I have to eat every 4-5hrs or the hunger is insane) but if I can keep doing runny oatmeal and runny potatoes to keep doing it w/ protein shakes and yogurt b/c I am having a hard time staying hydrated. -
after a consult with my doc over the phone today, he had me take a few bites of soupy mashed potatoes. It completely did the trick, my stomach is no longer getting angry and cramping up. I was having really bad bouts of the big D after every single liquid I ingested, he said to take Immodium and eat Oatmeal or mashed potatoes (soupy in both cases) and so far I am feeling full, but not uncomfortable and no more gnawing pain or nausea.

I was banded 1/31 ad have had a hard time telling hunger from pain from naseau but have found sticking to the diet (eating or drinking liquids every few hours) is helping.

after a week I fell off the wagon of the pre-op diet
dolphintattoo posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
moment of weakness, I ate a few pita chips. 3 more days of liquid preop and I know I can make it but I just am STARVING tonight, I was so busy today didn;t get to have my protein shakes (I have to be near a bathroom or I will be in big trouble within 10 minutes). Just drank one so hopefully this was my only screw up. -
the night before I started my pre-op was my birthday dinner, had plenty of habacchi (sp?) and I savored every bite because I knew it could be months before I have it again. While on pre-op I did cheat once and ate about 4 pita chips, it was one slip up but I didn't let it completely derail me, I just didn't do it again. I am 3 days post op and it's just a little bit easier on this side, I am still on mostly liquids (my doc counts runny oatmeal & cream of wheat as liquids) but there is more variety especially in the Soups. I promised myself I would savor the Soup once I got here and now I am. Just keep in mind the liquid diet isn't something you have to do every day for the rest of your life, it's just a little speed bump to slow you down and make sure you are ready for a lifetime of dieting ideals.

is a little drainage from the incisions normal?
dolphintattoo replied to yaya9805's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call the doctor, my bandages are supposed to stay on and be clear (no visible staining) until they fall off in about a week. I would be worried about infection. -
What was the afternoon of your surgery like?
dolphintattoo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband and I are trying to figure out some childcare logistics. I am assuming I will likely want to sleep (I am spending 1 night in the hospital) so our thought is it's fine for him to pick the kids up after school and maybe bring them by after an early dinner to say goodnight (hospital is only 10 minutes from home). Wondering what your afternoon looked like. -
Cream Soup on liquids post-op
dolphintattoo replied to CatLady0626's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I found a great selection at trader joes, roasted corn and red pepper was tonight's dinner, delish if only a few ounces! TJs also has a few low sodium varieties and they are much healthier than Campbell's and In Resealable cardboard jugs. -
day 2 pre op diet
dolphintattoo replied to ErinSue2000's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree it's very hard, much harder than I expected especially as the days went on, but towards the end when I was only 2 days before surgery I feel like I blocked out the other 7 days!!!! -
2days post op and feeling full?
dolphintattoo posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded Thursday (my doc doesn't put any fill on the band until the 6 week mark so I am empty), yesterday was a diet of clear liquids. Today I started with oatmeal made with milk and it was easy to feel when I was satisfied. A few hours later I had 4oz of Atkins Shake and had to almost force it down, it's been about 2hours since the shake and I feel "full". I had some hot tea walked around a bit but it's still a bit uncomfortable, like I have indigestion or something. Normal? -
2days post op and feeling full?
dolphintattoo replied to dolphintattoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The feeling has subsided I took an Advil tablet (the little round one) this afternoon and I think that may have been part of the problem, I was hoping to get off the Roxicet sooner rather than later, but since taking it a half hour or so ago and taking off my bra which was sort of resting on my port site, I feel a lot better. -

thanks everyone, my kids did come and visit and it was nice for all of us. They had major fascination with the tubes and buzzers etc.. and at one point put on gloves and pretended to be the doctors! I was fine, no major pain so far (had surgery Thurssday came home Friday) -
How much weight did you lose preop?
dolphintattoo replied to wozzicat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
10 days of liquids including yogurt and shakes and lost about 13lbs. some was post period bloat though. -
What did your doc suggest as a goal weight?
dolphintattoo replied to Rebecca Cain Salpacka's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I discussed with my surgeon and based on MY history, BMI, activitiy level etc.. he believes 80lbs is what I should try lose in 18-24 months. That still makes me obese, but it's 80lbs less than I am today and he was fine with that. -
I start on cream soups, oatmeal and similar things tomorrow and cannot wait, although my hubs and kids eating pizza tonight was brutal!
